But a fifth ghost?

That's what a Boston-area Craigslister claimed when he was contacted to ask why he was giving away a Ms. Pac Man cabinet for free.

Someone on ArcadeControls.com contacted the cabinet owner for the explanation, which involves poltergeist, a crying 3-year-old and a "dark figure."

I sent a message to see if anyone had claimed it and if they had any pics. I got a response back saying that it was available but no pictures. I emailed back asking why they where getting rid of it for free. Here is the response I got.

"When I bought this machine the previous owner told me it was haunted. I laughed, didn't believe him, because I didn't believe in that sort of thing.

Got a bad feeling the day it was delivered. Game started on its own in the middle of the night several times, had a tech service the machine three times (very pricy housecalls), but he couldn't find the problem.

Three-year old daughter started talking about the "man in the video machine", didn't think much of it, then my wife saw a dark figure move across the basement and into the machine. She ran out of the house, would not return until the machine was out of the house. I moved it to my business garage (two miles away), and several times I have opened the garage to find tools missing or scattered, things tipped over.

This is why I am giving away a $1000 machine for free."

Other forum goers who emailed the man were told that he was giving it away because he's a lucky man. So either he's changing his story, or has decided ditching a haunted cabinet would be easier if people didn't know the back story.

The Craigslist posting was still up when I checked this morning, so I emailed the owner, but haven't heard back. Maybe he's been sucked into the Ms. Pac Man.

Interesting Craigslist find [Arcade Controls, thanks Wesley]

<![CDATA[ Sony Sued Over Blu-Ray Tech ]]> blueraysueray.jpgCalifornia tech company Target Technology has a serious beef with Sony over Blu-Ray, and they're not taking the law into their own hands. They're taking them to court...The Indiana Southern District Court.

*cue theme music*

Meet the plaintiff, Target Tech. They claim that Sony's Blu-Ray technology infringes on a patent they've held since last March for a silver-based alloy thin film for optical disks. They've filed a lawsuit against SCEA, Sony Pictures, and Sony DADC US, seeking damages and an injunction against Sony infringing on their patent ever again.

Meet the defendant...well the defendant hasn't commented yet, though I'm sure they get around to it in all due time.

Target Technology is currently named as a co-defendant in a trademark infringement case brought about by Williams Advanced Materials, a company that manufactures, among other things, thin film materials used in DVDs, so for all I know the whole thin film covering business could be full of scoundrels and thieves. Only the other hand, Sony doesn't have that great a track record regarding borrowed tech themselves (rumble), so how this ends up is anybody's guess.

<![CDATA[ Judge Kicks Jack's Kotaku Kase to the Kurb ]]> Yesterday a judge refused to accept Jack Thompson's request to reinstate Gawker and Kotaku as a defendant in his Jack-against-the-world suit which already included the Florida Bar and Florida Supreme Court.

In his ruling Judge Paul Huck wrote:

Plaintiff may not, time and again, add more and more distinct and unrelated claims into a single lawsuit. This action will not serve as a repository for any and all real or perceived claims that Plaintiff has against various entities...

Although Plaintiff, in his motion, characterizes the actions of the Defendants as a "collaborated assault" against him, it is apparent that... Plaintiff's accusations against Gawker Media... are wholly separate from his claims against the remaining defendants.

Of course Thompson could file another suit against us, or me, or my mother for spawning me, or my dog for letting me take it for walks or the chair I sit on for supporting me. Well, you get the point.

<![CDATA[ Burger King Confirms Xbox 360 Game Dev ]]> bkstalker.jpg

Turns out that despite all those breaking into people's homes, running across football fields and trying to shove people off high rises, the King isn't as cheerful a guy as one might suspect.

The General Counsel for Greenfield Online, the company conducting a survey about Burger King possibly creating some next-gen King-infested video games, was the opposite of delighted to learn that we were sent the information along with concept images.

The GC of GO (for BK) claims we are violating the intellectual property rights of Burger King and demands we remove the images and text post haste.

We're not taking down the post, but we will take some of those scrumptious breakfast sandwiches the King has been peddling. We'll gladly trade in our claim of Fair Use for a bag full of delicious sausage Croissan'wiches.

Hit the jump for the official lawyer speak. I guess we can take this as a confirmation?
