[Updated]]]> ZeniMax Media, parent company of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls studio Bethesda Softworks, announced today that it is purchasing legendary Doom and Wolfenstein developer id Software. What does id co-founder John Romero think?

The estranged game designer, who's no longer with id and currently developing iPhone games, tweeted this: "ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting." He followed that up an hour later with "Fallout 3 bought DOOM. Wow."

Romero is known for coining the term "deathmatch" and the disastrous Daikatana ad campaign. That, and having amazing hair.

Id co-founder John Carmack, id CEO Todd Hollenshead and ZeniMax CEO Robert Altman told Kotaku that the purchase will change none of the principles or principals of id and Bethesda but will allow id to grow like it never has before.

We've contacted Romero to clarify, but have yet to receive a reply.

Update: Hours later, Romero tweeted, "i guess i was shocked and sad to see the id Software of old changed forever today. it's a new day and a new id." Same old Romero, though.

<![CDATA[Suck it Down: Namco's Crane Game Makes Kotaku its Bitch]]> Not content to document our suckage at just Street Fighter IV, Luke and I decided to prove just how bad we are at saucer games as well. Namco Bandi had a Cena-Flex saucer game set to freeplay at their event. While we didn't win on tape, we did manage to try enough to eventually bag a can of Pringles and four boxes of cookies. FOUR!!! Good thing we weren't actually paying.

<![CDATA[Suck it Down: Street Fighter IV Makes Kotaku its Bitch]]> At our second arcade we finally found some Street Fighter IV machines squeezed into the smoke-filled fourth floor. The machines, which cost 50 yen a play and were packed into old boxes, were system linked with one another. Ash and Mike took one look at the players and bee-lined it for the Shmups one floor up. But Luke and I, apparently gluttons for punishment, decided to line up and take our punishment, fortunately it was over quickly. (More so for Luke, ha ha ha)
