What a nice surprise, I had no idea if the Wii SNES VC emulator was capable of handling S-DD1 chip emulation! I have Street Fighter Alpha 2 on PAL cart, bought it a "Cash Land" store for what was then 6€uros. I felt really lucky with that purchase. Played the game to death, even if I did already have a PSX at the time. With the exception of that tine pause before the beginning of each round, it's an amazing conversion from the CPS2 original, one which many believed to be an impossible one. After that game, I had hope "Darkstalkers" would find it's way to the SNES too, but it was too late, everyone had moved to CDs already (except Nintendo, which as we all know, stayed with carts for the N64... good times).
@Shiryu: Not a troll: Never played Street Fighter Alpha 2 (easily one of the best SF games ever) on SNES, and after watching that video I wouldn't want to. Amazing for SNES sure, but that looks slow as hell, and man is that music tiny. SFA Anthology all the way.
@EthnicX: I have every version of SF2Alpha there is, of course nothing beats the CPS2 version found in Anthology (PS2 Game #85 on my collection) but I think its like "Call of Duty Reflex" on the Wii: It's a miracle port on a inferior system that keeps all the gameplay elements found on it's original game, made for superior hardware. I give credit where it's due and Capcom certainly deserves all the credit for their final SNES efforts (this, Final Fight 3, Breath of Fire II and in Japan, Rockman & Forte). It's part of videogaming history, and on the SNES, it certainly is a very valuable piece on my personal collection. You must also consider this game came out to both PSX/Saturn and SNES in 1996, PS2 Anthology only came 10 years later (2006) . This makes SSF2Alpha on SNES extremely rare, there were very few units hitting the shops, while the PSX version was quite common. Now it will be forever remebered in Virtual Console. =)
@Shiryu: I agree, it's really inspiring. It's not my port of choice for SF Alpha 2, but it's actually kinda irrelevant, since it's just such an awesome port. I really have nothing to add, just...you're very right.
You know I own the Rayman GBA cart (In addition to pretty much every other platform the game came out on sans the Jaguar) and I'm tempted to pick up a DSi just so I can have the game always available. I <3 it that much.
@Milton Allemand: Same here, but I wonder what version it's based on and if it supports the unlimited lives code. I loved the Saturn redbook soundtrack enough to rip it so I can listen to it outside of the game, but given the downloadedness of the title, I'm guessing it's a port of the Jaguar original than the Saturn, PSX, or PC versions.
@Milton Allemand: I still have it - GBA launch day purchase! - although the "close view" of the character made planning your jumps a little difficult. In later levels, it makes the game more like a pattern-memorization game rather than a platformer. Maybe that's why people like it!
@Gundem: It'd end up being yet another half-assed Backbone greased up emulated ROM of a game I already own like three copies of with no real reason to buy it yet again.
Anyone see any reviews on Rayman DSi? I am curious what the port is like. Do we get the soundtrack from the CD based games...or is this more like the GBA version? I have the original on my Saturn, but my Saturn is starting to look a little yucky hooked up to an HDTV...I was gonna get the PS1 version, but if this is comparable, then it might be great on the handheld. The GBA version had a pretty restricted view.
@Datacide: The Saturn version is going to look better than the PS1 version, unfortunately. Nine times out of ten the Saturn will do 2D better than the PS1.
Yeah, but I can get upscaling on my PS3...so it will likely look better. I had the PS1 version at one point...it didn't actually look much different than the Saturn version really. But I agree...generally for sprite based stuff the Saturn was a powerhouse! :) I am hoping someday will start seeing XBLA Saturn ports...Panzer Dragoon Sega and Burning Rangers would be a blast all nicely redone (and Mr. Bones)
@Datacide: PSOne games are not upscaled on the PS3. They're bilinear interpolated, or given some sort of other blur filter, but they are not rendered at a higher resolution. Which is a shame.
That's true...I was just using "upscaling" as a general term. (can't really upscale sprites now can you). :) Anyways...they do look better coming out of my PS3 than via my PS2 or PS1.
Please people, don't get Alpha 2 on VC. The Super Nintendo version is terrible.
You can get Alpha 2 on PSN. Not an arcade perfect version, but a 10000 times better version than the SNES game. It's also a lot cheaper. 5.99 instead of 800 wii points.
@fernandosolano: World Tour Mode WAS awesome. Totally forgot about that. I think the Dreamcast ver. had that mode as well. I would love to see something like that make a return in Super Street Fighter IV or other future installments.
@MrBounce: Well in all fairness, it's already available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on both systems. Now as for why it's not a standalone game? I dunno. SEGA seems to be really picky about what they give Sony and Microsoft compared to what they throw at Nintendo.
@Daverost: I just wanted to see it as a standalone mini-purchase game as I think I want maybe 2 or 3 games from the SUGC collection. I wish I could find a used copy of the darn game but there never seems to be any floating around for the PS3. Maybe I should just pony up for a Wii.
@MrBounce: Sorry if it came across as one of those internet dicks. I actually know what it's like to be so out of the loop when I console is dead or away(my 360 RROD too).
The PS3 ver. of SUGC goes for like 20 bucks on Amazon. But yeah, I dunno if it's worth buying if you only want two of the games on there. I personally love the collection though.
@Ueziel: Yeah, sadly enough Batman Forever on the SNES had a loading screen too! It said "Hold On" instead of now loading....lol That was my first foray into loading times on the SNES... ugh!
@Ueziel: Don't forget Batman Forever. That even had loading screens with a bar filling up. I was so amazed at what technology could do. Loading times on cartridge based systems, just wow.
30 titles and the PS3's been out almost three years. That's..really rather poor. And few of these titles held up well. Jumping Flash is just painful these days.

it must be said though, the Alpha 3 Ps1 version will be superior just for its world tour mode. World Tour Mode is amazing.
