Those looking for proof that a solution to Wii storage limits was sorely needed by both developers and customers need look no further than the Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People series from Telltale Games. The company today announces that sales of the WiiWare version of the adventure game series have more than doubled since Nintendo gave players the ability to run games from SD memory cards during the Game Developers Conference in March.

"Nintendo's new solution really opens the door for players to add to their collection of downloadable games, which is critical for a series with multiple installments," says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. "This is a major step forward for episodic gaming. We're looking forward to even greater success on WiiWare with Strong Bad, as well as other projects."

In the words of Mr. Bad himself, "Holy crap!"

<![CDATA[Wii Storage Solution, New Balance Board Game Revealed At GDC]]> Kotaku has confirmed that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will announce the long-requested storage solution for the Wii during his keynote speech at the 2009 Game Developers Conference this morning.

Along with the official announcement of Rock N' Roll Climber, a rock climbing game that uses the Wii Balance Board previously leaked by the ESRB ratings website, Iwata will discuss a data storage device for the Wii, which gamers have been clamoring for since the introduction of the Virtual Console with the systems launch.

Rather than a hard disk, it looks like the Wii will utilize high capacity SD solution to solve the console's memory woes.

Stay tuned to Kotaku's Live Blog of the keynote for more information!

<![CDATA[Nifty Ottoman Hides Your Rock Band Instruments]]> Much to the delight of my wife, a good third of our game closet is filled with Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments. Which means this sexy storage device is a must have.

The AK Rock Box Gaming and Storage Ottoman with Drum Lift may sound a bit pricey at first, ringing in at $185, but once you look it over it seems well worth it.

The faux-leather wrapped ottoman hides away all of your controllers for a rock-out session. That means two gaming guitars, a foot pedal and a microphone. Oh and the drums, which snap into a specially designed lift which raise and lower the kit with one hand motion.

How kick ass is that?

<![CDATA[New 360 Arcades Get 256MB Internal Storage]]> As hinted at in our ennui-bustin' Thanksgiving Rumor Roundup Microsoft have confirmed that the new batch of 'Jasper' Xbox 360 Arcade boxes will come with internal flash storage.

Speaking to Xbox 360 Fanboy, a Microsoft spokeschap said, "We can confirm that we are moving to internal memory for the Xbox 360 Arcade. The physical internal memory is the same size as the previous external memory units - 256MB"

Arcade users can now look forward to saving games right out of the box - and maybe even a few Avatar costumes if they are lucky - before having to cough up for some external storage.

<![CDATA[Microsoft Offering 20GB HDDs Refurb For NXE Upgrade]]> It emerged last week that Microsoft's NXE upgrade would require 128MB of free space and might therefore be out of reach to some Arcade owners.

Microsoft promised that some kind of 'storage solution' was in the works and has just released details of an upgrade program to ensure under-specced consoles can receive the dashboard replacement.

www.xboxstorageupgrade.com recommends either clearing some space by removing saved content or entering your Serial Number and Console Id to see if you are eligible for either a free 512 MB memory card or a 20 GB hard-drive for $19.99.

UPDATE: We are checking the validity of this. The link seems genuine, but nothing has shown up through the usual MS sources and there have been rumors that this is a phishing scam. Microsoft has been contacted for comment.

UPDATE 2, Electric Boogaloo: Microsoft have confirmed that the site is genuine.

<![CDATA[Harmonix to Nintendo: Wii Need A Hard Drive]]> When we heard that Rock Band was coming to the Wii without DLC, we'd long since anticipated the problem, our psychic powers stemming from the Wii's obvious lack of decently proportioned internal hard drive. Now Harmonix's design director Rob Kay has confirmed that the Wii's lack of storage was indeed the reason Rock Band Wii will not have DLC:

Come on Nintendo, we need a hard drive.
He continued:
That's what we want. The whole problem is there's nowhere to store [DLC]...If the platform could do it, we'd jump on it.
But the Wii isn't a completely closed system. It can accept SD cards, a cheap form of media storage that Hamonix seems to be overlooking.

Sure, they couldn't depend on everyone to be able to download multitudes of tracks, but I'm betting that those shilling out big bucks for Rock Band wouldn't mind investing in a larger SD card—one that wouldn't cost much more than a Wii hard drive anyway (and could be packaged with the game). Or as an alternative, small SD cards could be sold in brick and morter stores with large track packs and whole albums. It's under $5 to buy an SD card for the average consumer, so imagine how low the prices become in bulk.

That said, come on Nintendo. Harmonix says they need a hard drive so please make it happen.

<![CDATA[Breath Mints Cure Chronic Halitosis and DS Storage Probs]]>

Even with a plethora of pouches and accessories, some finicky folks can never find the perfect way to store their gear. Reader David dropped us a line to let us know what works for him. His criteria is pretty simple: He prefers not to have gaming logos all over it and no neoprene bulk. David, the floor is yours:

1) The Tom Bihn Small Organizer Pouch - http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/ACC/TB0317 Tom Bihn make some pretty nice laptop cases, and their organizer pouch is no exception. The small measures: 7" x 5" (180 x 125 mm) and fits the DS Lite very snugly. That being said there is room for a few games, and I have also managed to stick my Nano in there at the same time.

2) Eclipse mint boxes - http://www.wrigley.com/wrigley/products/products_eclipse.asp
Eclipse make some nice mints in metal cases with fliptop lids. Once the mints were finished, I gave the inside a clean with tissue and compressed air and it now fits 9 DS games perfectly. It might fit 10, but I only have 9 games so I haven't tested 10. I have been contemplating taking the paint off, so it's a plain metal case, but I am not sure of the best and easiest way to do this.

Carrying a Nano and a DS Lite? Together?! That isn't asking for a crack, but begging. Begging, David! Any other neat storage solutions in Kotaku-land?
