And besides, Halo and WETA are perfect for each other. I know with WETA, there will be a minimum use of CG (they'll make as much of it with their own hands as they can). Spielberg...would probably use ILM.

If you say "Just stop already!" and some producers listen to you, we'll never get a good game movie. Each movie is a stepping stone. Look how long it took to get good comic movies! The old Punisher...oooh man. Even if Halo bombs, it means we're one step closer to a game movie that doesn't suck!

The only reason anyone could consider Spielberg generic is that fact that 90% of filmakers working today are trying to be like him. Why? Because even when he directs a bad film it is still worth watching. Even his worse projects are better than most directors best projects.
Look at almost all popular filmakers working today(good ones and bad ones) and almost everyone of them will say they were inspired by 3 directors. Coppala, Scorsese and Spielberg. Of course somethings going to come off as generic when everyone is copying the same things. Will I admit he has gotten overly sentimental in his works lately yes, but that still doesn't change what he has done in the past. Example Spielberg admitted that since the birth of his children the things he did in past films would not happen if he had made the same movie today(I.e. Dreyfess leaving his wife and kids to go on the alien ship in Encounters).
But regardless he's interested in producing the film, never said anything about directing it.

I am a Halo Fan and if the script follows the book series it will be great..
As for the other comments if you dont think Halo has enuff back bone for a movie you should read the books.

The preceding paragraph, that if the movie follows the books (Beattie's script is supposedly based on Fall of Reach), it will be good, is quite accurate, as the Nylund books were damn good.

My only problem is that Nylund spends a LOT of time talking strategies that the characters form. Sometimes I want him to STFU.

Mindless? Maybe if you ignore the dialogue and cutscenes, sure.
Comparing it with Twilight irks me to the core. At least we don't have people stalking Steve Downes (Chief's voice actor) or Jen Talyor (Cortana's voice actress). Twilight is basically a culmination of a woman's perverse interest in teenage boys, and covering it up with saying they're actually really really old, but retain their Adonis-like looks.
Halo, on the other hand, is a story of humanity's last hope in a losing battle against a superior race. During said battle, we learn a bit about that universe's version of humanity's origins, and most of civilization. We also learn what happened to the ancient beings, and why. This is all in the games, mind you.
The books explore MC's past, his relationship with the other SPARTAN IIs, and those relationships coming to often bitter ends. It reveals that he sacrificed everything to save the human race. He's nowhere near perfect, and it shows. He tries not to get attached to teammates and fellow soldiers, but it becomes obvious he feels pangs of remorse when they fall. Heck, you see that in the games, too. He saves soldiers lives in every game, and you see the connection he forms with Cortana.
Were it truly mindless, there would not be such an extensive fanbase to it. Halo.bungie.org is an immense site filled with users who genuinely appreciate the story that Bungie crafted, and the story page is filled with ongoing speculation. The Halo wikia has hundreds upon hundreds of articles, from weapons to government organizations to vehicles and Covenant castes. Were it truly mindless, would these exist? Articles by Stephen Loftus show that there are great things afoot in the universe of Halo, you just need to look for them.
Also, Cortana's not really sparkly. She's a hologram, sure, but the only way to get her to sparkle is to toss some glitter into the hologram to interfere. Otherwise, it's just light. It's like saying a flashlight's beam is sparkly.

I just don't see how someone that doesn't bother to learn more about what he's going on and on about has anything at all valid to say about a storied and wildly popular franchise. If you are going to criticize it, criticize it directly for what it is not what you speculate it is. And if you can't be bothered to, why does something that doesn't effect you in anyway matter so much? Honestly, thee are more worthwhile causes people like you should take up.

Neither do I. I liked the story when I played it, and when I heard there were books, I borrowed them from a friend, then eventually bought my own copies. I didn't -need- to find out the rest of the story, because the games have plenty. Forgive me for having an interest in something.

Yes, it's essentially mindless blockbuster entertainment, but there's no shame in admitting that it can be done well or that you enjoyed it. Case in point: the recent Star Trek reboot.

Agreed, it does sound out of place, but then who knows.
Sony is doing an Uncharted movie, which I didn't really see coming - the game played like an adventure movie already, I find it weird that it's basically regressing to being just a movie. I also don't think the characters are (or could be) developed enough to provide backbone for a really decent movie and I feel the same way about Halo.
The only videogame movie I care about would be MGS. Sony, pick it up already.

As for an MGS movie... NO.
I'm confused as it is with all the MGS game's story, so what makes you think it's possible to capture that MGS moment fans and lots of gamers alike have appreciated over the years? I can just imagine the confusion and questions asked on why so many characters are throwing away perfectly nice jackets.
