The problem with The Chronicles of Riddick (the movie) is that it took Riddick from a slick, R-rated horror/sci-fi combo and moved him into a bloated, CG-filled Dune wanna-be.
If this game -- which got Riddick right -- is overlooked a second time, I will lose all faith in mankind.
Please go on and suggest a better method other than a magical tractor beam. Sure, there are others, but I can't think of any which would not have a weakness which this method does not. (My first thought was scrap collecting drones like in Homeworld, but that would leave a lot to be desired when it comes to keeping the vessel from escaping.)
Well, first off, my comment wasn't so much directed at the harpoon (which, for some reason, turns without any method of propulsion) but rather the claws. Seriously, there was no better way to secure a harpooned ship than by designing and engineering gigantic, inefficient claw arms to pull the ship in? Think about the man-hours wasted on making that complicated piece of machinery work.
My suggestion, in the absence of a magical tractor beam, would simply be an interception squad. A base has no business capturing ships on its own considering they're normally designed as fortresses to keep people out. In the case where one would need to capture an enemy vessel, the harpoon (barring the possibility that it would go right through the hull given the lack of air resistance) may prove useful, but to secure the ship, I'd suggest launching interception vessels to secure and tug the ship back to port/hangar. Surely fielding a few pilots and some paramilitary types, vessels included, are MUCH cheaper than designing that monstrosity of mechanical wrongness.
Aren't the graphics supposed to get better as we traverse through a generation of consoles. I haven't seen such lifeless character animation since Pitfall (slight exaggeration.
I remember this being a really great series, but the graphics appear to be the exact same as the last generation.
How do you even remember this being a series? There was only one game.
These graphics are vastly improved, but I refuse to watch this as it can't not contain spoilers. And now, because developers are always releasing this "First bit of the game" for people to watch, I basically can't go into any thread or topic that applies to the game. Why don't they wait until the game is released before they show people the opening part of the game?
@goldenroad: My bad, I said series since they have this second one out now. I played the Butcher Bay one on the Xbox many moons ago.
Also, you claim the graphics are vastly improved, yet you refuse to watch this (or any) video. Don't judge the entire video based on that screenshot. Trust me, the character animations are last generation.
I just saw the Killzone2 trailer yesterday. And although it is a game that doesn't interest me at all, it is hard to deny that those graphics are top notch and arguably the best graphics we've seen this generation. Maybe finally, Sony is pulling there head out of their ass.
@Monsignor: what? Sony is pulling their head out of their ass because Killzone2 looks pretty? That's a stupid ass comment considering some of the other great games on PS3. So I'm guessing you haven't caught an eyeful of Wipeout HD. A $20 PsN game that is clearly one of the best looking games this generation so far. You will not find anything similar to it on any other platform this gen and it's not even a true sequel. That's only one PS3 title out of quite a few that look good. Let's not descend into retardism by blowing developers for making a game pretty with todays technology. It's not exactly hard to do unless you're developing on Wii or DS. Butcher's Bay is such a great achievement because it gave you close to current gen quality in the last gen.
its sad how bad of an actor Vin Diesel is. He had 1 good movie. HE cant act and his video looks like crap. The first one was corney 2. I dont care wahat anyways says. Everyone that thinks this game looks good hop offs its dick cuz you know it looks shitty 2.
"the finest role Vin Diesel has ever portrayed outside of The Iron Giant"
What, you didn't like the WWII soldier in 'Ryan' that eats a bullet?
Also:
This is a 100 percent day one for me. Chronicles of Riddick is still one of those games that my memories switch in my brain turns on for, and brings to mind such wonderful yesterdays of trading smokes for shivs, skulking around in the darkness, getting eye surgery, BRUTAL melee... damn. What a sweet sweet game. And the fact this new game comes with an updated original? Yes yes and yes.
"(The Starbreeze producer said he wanted an Achievement for getting through both campaigns without dying and without turning the console off - this guy's hardcore!)"
Abbott is still gonna be a pain in the arse to getting such an achievement. Unless you do that really quick attack to keep him in hit recovery/defending and choose your moment to attack him properly. (any other strategies people?)
@Pudgey: Learning to time your punches is THE way to win melee encounters. Abbott can be taken out by using the combat knife; get in close and hit Abbott rapidly in the face, he can't fire at you and you can take him out with minimal damage to yourself. You can also try and execute a reversal on Abbott and end the fight quicker.
The one Achievement I'm curious to see is for catching the moths. I would often hang around just catching moths in the rec yards and the mines.

This series is about the only thing I like vin Diesels acting in.

I'll standby on this one for the time being.

Please...you've never heard of Spider-Man 2? Batman on NES? Batman Returns on SNES? The Warriors?
That's pretty damn sad.

Spiderman 2, having virtually no connection to the movie, is more like a game based on a comic book.
Batman on NES wasn't THAT great... cmon now.
The Warriors I'll give ya. But it was pretty niche.
@thedevilsadvocate:
Yeah, THIS is a real movie based game that didn't suck. I don't know how anyone missed Goldeneye. Practically defined a generation of gaming.
