Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior = Tanks.
Trooper/Bounty Hunter = Ranged DPS (or "Mage" if you will).
Smuggler/Imperial Agent = Stealth Class (possible close DPS)
Last pair = ???
I hope BioWare does something original and doesn't include a healer type class. Droid classes will be awesome. There was no need for one in the KOTOR games. We'll see. Big, BIG money projects like this don't favor innovation. (In other words, Lucas wants his own WoW).
Also, the Imperial Agent fits the (how I hate this term) lore for the KOTOR timeline. There is supposed to be a "real" Sith Empire (not the fallen Jedi from the games) just outside the known galaxy that Revan & possibly the Exile went to fight. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@Paul_Is_Drunk:
yea healers are missing here... maybe jedi's will have some healing based subclass but otherwise expect a "medic" class a la galaxies #starwarstheoldrepublic
@Paul_Is_Drunk: I dont think theres going to be healer classes, I was reading somewhere that BW are trying different systems for healing, but that was awhile ago so... anyway as theyre making their classes sound epic, a medic really doesnt fit the bill. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@Blazinglynx: Yeah, that's my hope as well. BioWare has consistently developed games that I love (save Jade Empire - okay but not great) and I hope they can do some new stuff with this one, which would be to not have something as lame as a medic. That's just not epic, like you stated.
As anduin1 pointed out, letting the Jedi/Sith have healing abilities would be a nice new twist, and fit the mythos, but when you got someone sinking tens of millions of $dollars$ on a project, they tend to want you to go with what works. (See also: Hollywood).
I apologize for being hopelessly off-topic, but I need help. Can someone please tell me how to change Kotaku so that it doesn't show certain content? I'm sick of seeing Mass Effect 2 and MW2 spoilers, and would like to block that content. I remember there being an option to include "notmodernwarfare2" or something similar at the end of the Kotaku homepage URL. Thanks guys.
@duckmouth: You used to be able to do [kotaku.com]
But with the new hashtag system, that doesn't work. as it thinks your searching for #not:modernwarfare2
Edit: also this is a question you should ask in TAY.
@duckmouth: maybe if more people are forced to see 'spoilers' game writting will improve to the point that it's spoiler proof just like all good stories. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@notquitedeadyet: Bit of a shame. Personally, I always wanted a single player KOTOR 3 - then you would get it on next-gen consoles too. #starwarstheoldrepublic
I concur, Fahey. Jedi are just too boring. I can't stand them, to be honest. Does that mean I'm Sith? By no means. I just think that Jedi will always unbalance a game, no matter what their philosophy. If a dev could come up with a system that generate Jedi characters like they are by normal SWU(Star Wars Universe) means, such as a random chance at Force-Sensitivity, with an opportunity at a time to become trained as a Jedi, that would be neat. Instead TOR will have a ton of Jedi characters running around just as SWG did. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@MrBrau: I have no problem with an abundance of Jedi/Sith in TOR. It was the era of the Jedi/Sith wars, it makes perfect sense.
I was commenting on SWG, because I think Hardcore maybe didn't know how SWG's Jedi were sorted before the NGE and they started passing them around like flyers outside a nightclub. #starwarstheoldrepublic
*Obligatory "Should have been KOTOR 3" comment*
Right, now that that's out of the way.
I know it would be silly to have a Star Wars game without Jedi and Sith, but I wonder how good of an idea this is. Judging from comments I've heard, it seems most people are going to fall squarely on these two classes, forgoing the others so they can swing a lightsaber.
Personally, if I planned to pick up the game, I'd be a smuggler (another popular choice, but still not to the degree of Jedi/Sith) but I have a strong feeling that this Old Republic world is going to be overrun with these guys. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@Erode: Well, honestly? I think it's going to be like World of Warcraft and the Death Knight.
For those of you who don't play, here's what I mean. When the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack came out, it introduced a new "hero" class, the Death Knight. Basically an Antipaladin plus a Necromancer. They also start at level 55 instead of 1, and you can only make one per server. So pretty much everyone has one. It's sort of the obligatory character, and because of that, most people aren't very attached to theirs.
So I imagine it will be like that. You'll be having a rough time with a group quest, and the bounty hunter in your group will say, "Hang on, let me log my Sith." Everyone will have one... but quickly realize that the genericness of them is not as interesting as the wealth of other classes. #starwarstheoldrepublic

@Erode: I wonder; I've watched a decent number of clips, but so far, they only show two players together; no more. It looks more like a co-op RPG that you can play with strangers.
If all the instances are that intimate, and they make up most of the story (which seems pretty customized to each account), maybe the player class choices won't matter as much, since you'll still be important or set apart within the instances. Basically, the story-telling shouldn't be affected much (like if they say you're their only hope or a special person despite hundreds of other so-called heroes running through the same quest in WoW right next to you).
Of course, maybe there are going to be thousands of Jedi swarming the actual public areas and grinding areas, but I'm used to ignoring strangers in MMOs anyway. #starwarstheoldrepublic
@Cloviscm: fair enough, but I've seen some impressive TOR shots. Even the early stuff. And these shots look like the cutting room floor type shots that PR/Marketing rejects on the grounds of being, IDK, crap.
and to be completely honest, I have WOW screenshots that will blown minds. It's all about putting some effort into the screenshot. #starwarstheoldrepublic
Jedi or Sith, Jedi or Sith? This is the conundrum that I face with this game. I guess as long as I can be a bad-ass with a lightsaber, it doesn't really matter so much... #starwarstheoldrepublic
@ach77: Please, for the good of all of us, be a Jedi. There will be more than enough "I dye my hair to match my heart" Sith players out there to begin with. #starwarstheoldrepublic
I wonder if that light saber from picture 8 has strong force vibrations. I'm sure many a Jedi Knight have appreciated having that one tucked away. #starwarstheoldrepublic

I think it was already stated that in the lore of this era (sorry I am not a SW scholar) Jedi were common enough to make sense a as a class.
You would be impressed on how a well written narrative can make this feelings go away quickly. Unless you are one of "those" fans....
