Some things aren't possible... Next question please = Microsoft paid us for timed exclusivity. We'd rather not admit to such things. Please don't ask us, it's embarrassing.
That's not surprising, actually I had a countdown clock going in my head on when this game was going to be released to the PS3 owners (that's me!).
However, there wasn't much positiveness about this game on the 360 so I'm not completely thrilled but it's an RPG on a system literally gasping for RPGs now....so beggars can't be choosers I suppose?
@Rachel Fogg: Well the dialogue and voice acting were terrible - the three characters with the most annoying voices talked more than anyone in the game, and it kinda ruined any dramatic atmosphere the game tried to create for me.
But I didn't mind the fighting so much and (call me a weeaboo) but I think that the voice's will be much better in Japanese (probably), it's like they grabbed just anybody off the street to voice these characters.
So I'll probably give it a chance for the PS3 when it's cheaper
I figured as much, the characters look horribly overworked and delightfully generic at the same time. I've played through horrible dialogue so it won't kill me too bad.
It's a rental game. My money's on WKC at the moment.
Sucks that PS3 is getting most, if not every 360 RPG, except the one that I imagine most PS3 owners really want to see: Lost Odyssey.
That said, runner-up in anticipation is definitely Tales of Vesperia. Here's hoping the rumors are true and it's coming to America.
Actually, what if we come up with a new version of James Brown's "Livin in America" that's for cool esoteric Japanese games and call it "Comin to America."
So if your friend is like "Man, Tales of Vesperia PS3 looks so sweet. There's this new pirate girl,"
then you go, "Yeah man, I really hope it's... [sings] comin to Americaaaaa."
I want LO! SOOO BADLY! And I'm a PS3 owner, I only played a little of LO at a friend's place and I was giddy.
I'm not surprised by the move to the PS3 for SE, then again I haven't heard many positive things about SO4 so I don't chalk it up to a win (or lost for that matter.)
But for LO, if that ever happened (which is never...) I'll do the Charleston.
@Rachel Fogg: I'd be significantly more interested in Star Ocean 4 if a.) the character models weren't so darn creepy. Seriously, they look like shiny plastic dolls, and b.) if I'd actually enjoyed any of the previous Star Ocean games I've played. Not to mention the fact that I haven't heard a single good thing about the game from 360 owners
I'm willing to give those recent PSP SO remakes a chance, though, because my biggest problem with the Star Ocean games I've played (Second Story PS1, Til the End of Time PS2) were the poor localization jobs. The writing has never been able to convince me that I'm experiencing an epic story. Either that, or the Star Ocean series just does not have good stories and no amount of localization effort is going to turn that around.
Yes, the models are uber creepy, that stare like the unblinking eye of Mordor. Yeah, it's an uncanny valley for me but I'm interested in the pretty of SO4 (so shoot me).
I'm not going into SO4 with hope (HA!) I haven't heard too many good things about the game, but I'll give it a go.
@Rebochan: The PS3 version doesn't need more stuff. I, for one, am sick of both the 360 and PS3 getting exclusive garbage just because something came out after the other one. It's still a new game to the other system. They can enjoy it just like I did.
In theory yes, I COMPLETELY agree with you, I'm sick of both consoles getting shafted out of good games because a company wants to make money or get returns.
But the business whore part of me is like, that's how the business works. SO4 hasn't been out too long has it? But in order for it to get 'sales' they have to give more of a incentive for people to buy it.
It sucks for 360 owners because they now feel like test subjects for a 'First draft' version of a game and it sucks for PS3 owners because we're getting a nearly year old game and the 'First draft' game is selling on the 360 console for about 30-40 dollars cheaper.
@Rachel Fogg: Nah, it's just the 360 people getting screwed. Full priced games for a new release is fact. That is what happens. The PS3 is getting a new game and thus, it must be full price. The only incentive people on the other system need is that they haven't played it and want to play it. It doesn't need, nor does it EVER need, extra stuff.
The only people being hurt by situations like this (and Eternal Sonata. And Tales of Vesperia. And Virtua Fighter 5. And Bioshock) are the people who initially supported the title.
And the game isn't even close to a year old. It came out at the end of February. It's just coming up on 7 months now.
wouldn't be surprised though if there were more playable characters, but all in all,i would rather of had this a year earlier like the 360 got it,than to have one or two more playable characters
I've had SO4 for over a year on my 360. Not really mad about a port hitting in 2010 in JPN and likely later that year. The extra kibble wouldn't be worth it.
I was really really hoping an international PS3 version would be announced, so I could overlook that pile of Americanized garbage we got the first time around.
Tell that to Mass Effect, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc. An argument could be made for Eastern RPGs having trouble finding success, but Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata/Trusty Bell, and even Blue Dragon (I think) did much better than Star Ocean 4.
I only rented it and didn't get beyond the first disc, so I can't speak to the quality of the whole game, but the part I did play speaks enough to its numbers.
@noliferuin (PSN+XBL): JRPGs don't sell so well. As Heliophage mentioned RPGs that play more to the western style do well on 360. Square has been doing this test the waters with 360 and it seems to bite them in the butt. Ultimately though they change their mind though and there is a PS3 release. I am curious to see the add ons.
@Exhorresco: We don't know that yet, the JP version was JUST announced. I'm sure we'll find out their plans for the Western version soon enough. If not, just import it.
@Exhorresco: If you live in the states and you don't have a 360 then you're just silly. [don't give me any rrod excuse because a 3 year warranty is worth $250]
@iamspoo: But that $250 isn't worth going though the trouble of sending my console in everytime leaving me without my games. Just get a PS3 and forego the warranty.
Thats quite the myth. With video evidence everywhere and all. Look, I'll tell you what I tell every angry sounding anti xbox person. I'm sorry you feel like you picked the wrong system. And if thats not the way you feel, I'm sorry you're upset that people don't seem to care about your system as much as you wish they would. And if THATS not the way you feel, I'm sorry that you've been drinking heavily and decided to use the internet.
Of course, if none of those are the way you feel, then perhaps I can send you a thesaurus in the mail for free, to give you a better library of words to use. Such as 'uncommon occurrence' instead of 'myth', 'regular people' instead of 'xbot trolls' and well, you could have just left out the rest.
We'll talk when you've worked at a games store and had people scream at you for telling them that they were buying the more reliable system, and yet, here they are with a return.
@nyckrazy
Very true. At least it was on the old systems. But hence your three year warranty. I have a feeling part of the recent 'fixes' to the system to make it run better though are people just all installing their games these days. Less heat, less chance of damage.
Oh no, I wasn't. Just both systems are hardly indestructible beasts of burden. The red ring is way, way down these days through some voodoo magic Microsoft has done (I'm assuming), and people should be aware that theres a chance either system could wind up dead.
The only company that has been really reliable is the wii bec... er, thats not true either. But at least Nintendo does repairs for free! Kinda. Er. Sometimes.
Er, maybe they're just and everything can be chalked up to 'hey, shit happens'. You're just more likely to be driving a car held together by duct tape and glue if you get a 360 that doesnt have a manf date of post Summer 2008.
@Komrade Kayce: Here is some video I found online of a plane crashing into the world trade center.
Does this happen often? No? Guess your not the only one who can find videos online of freak occurrences.
Myth or "uncommon occurrence", the fact remains Xbots need to spread the MS propaganda that PS3's across the world are failing at an alarming rate.
The only thing that is failing is your point. Thanks for the comment promotion.
@lvclix: It's so nice to see a proud fanboy. You'll do good here, right up till the time your commenting gets turned off. So enjoy calling people Xbots while you can.
@Komrade Kayce: As a self proclaimed fanboy of the playstation I can definately say that the YYoD is real. This just in, when a piece of electronics malfunctions, there is a coded light that represents the error. I know, shock there smart kids. I know its hard not to tempt uneducated forum roaming fanboys with ugly truths of either console but can't we just call this a win for our fellow gaming bretherin who don't have both consoles and wanna play decent cross platform games. I know you just wanted to have fun but reading the stupidity of some people makes my head hurt. I know, I know don't read it but its kinda like a car crash, you don't really wanna look but you do any way.
Good news to see this on the way for the PS3!!
@lvclix
You are a tasteless idiot for posting that anywhere near videogames.
Has anybody been to the website that's on the left page here? The official website that one would go to for information? It says nothing about a PS3 version... The (passed) release date for the 360 is prominently featured however....
Not trying to be negative, but it just seems odd to me that the site displayed in the ad has no information at all about the release. I really hope there is a legit reason and it truly is coming to the PS3, but the only evidence so far is a magazine ad that's been floating around. Wouldn't it be announced before an ad anyway?
@PristineSneakers: The game was just announced via an early leak of a Famitsu ad. Famitsu doesn't officially come out until later this week. The site will update when the magazine is on shelves.
@Archaotic: Thanks for explaining that, it's been bugging me. I've seen several sites show this picture, but nobody named a solid source of the pic, so I was afraid it was photoshopped ot something.
