Steve Wiebe Explains His Stampede Score |

1. In a special case like this, where we have seen substantiated footage of a (then unknown to most gamers) Steve Wiebe accomplish this amazing feat; only to have one set of "officials" grant an arguably arbitrary showing of recordbreaking by someone who is arguably a favorite among their clique, would/should Billy Mitchell's score be considered "legitimate"?
1a. If the majority crowd finds Billy Mitchell's score illegitimate, should we as a gamer crowd (classic, mainstream, hobbyist, etc.) recognize the score as "legitimate"? NOTE: Just because Twin Galaxies is currently the only supposed "authority" doesn't mean that we have to collectively recognize EVERYTHING they have logged, especially since the "KoK issue" arguably reveals flaws in their official review process.
2. Would it be out of the question that we The Kotaku Krowd (and Tower, if they so choose) proclaim Steve Wiebe as our very own "King of Kong"?

It is one thing to show an arbitrary video with a blurred out method (that I know can be potentially reproduced) to simulate the feat that occured on that video.
It is another thing to have actually substantiate the score before live TwinGalaxy officials (and crowd) in a live game.
Regardless of how one set of people may feel, the fact that we got the chance to see Steve Wiebe accomplish this feat on tape that was not distorted, nor disputable (witnesses were also there to attest to Steve Wiebe's score), I have a hard time acknowledging Billy Mitchell's score.
To me, a score must be substantiated, and found undisputable. With the "wear and tear", and what I believe to be arguably questionable footage, I don't know how a the majority of gamers would find Billy Mitchell to be the recordholder over Steve Wiebe.
Alas, I am not one of the officals recording the scores, though...

Though, it leaves me nostalgic for my youth. I played some mean Stampede, back in the day.

that aside, i was kind of let down by this. it would have worked better if you'd detailed what the hell Stampede is, or how to play it. would have lent some gravity and clarity to the proceedings.
