While I would really enjoy a well done Halo flick, and am estatic about Spielberg coming on board, Beaties past efforts are far from impressive. Of his credits on IMDB the only movie I enjoyed was Collateral. His other films have been far from enjoyable too me(the ones I've seen at least.)
POTC Black Pearl; Saved by Depps performance not the script.
POTC: At worlds end not saved by anything except maybe Davy Jones crew.
Derailed; pretty lame for a thriller, and somehow made Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston seem boring.
30 Days of Night: how exactly do you fuck up a movie where vampires can roam freely for a month and you already have great source material to adapt from?
Australia; aka Pearl Harbor meets Far and Away, and ends up even worse than the previous two.
Of his credits those are the only ones I've seen.
I know a good director can do wonders with a bad script and a bad director can destroy a good script but since I've only enjoyed one of the movies I have seen on his resume, I think my enthusiasm is dwindling.
WHy the hell did I got to Imdb?
Please let the Berg make this right. And bring Blomkamp back on board damn it.
I know Spielberg and Peter Jackson are working on Tin Tin together, so maybe there is a chance.
Good. I don't care who likes them, none of Anderson's movie has excelled past the point of mediocrity. I also thought every single Re movie was Doo Doo.
I say this from the bottom of my heart...fuck the live action castlevania movie, stake it,behead it then light whats left on fire.Anderson should not go anywhere near it.
Now that being said, bring on the animated movie!Warren ELlis and goat fucking is where its at!
I think just about any video game with a slightly interesting and coherent story could be made into a movie. The problem is that most producers see them as quick cash-ins with directors who attach themselves because they're own careers will go nowhere.
Almost all of these adaptations completely alter the very foundation of the game's stories because they're made by people who have no clue for people who are too picky.
Look no further than comic book movies. The idea of them was derided and chastised by the general film going public and absolutely loathed by critics for years. They were the stuff of children and could rise no higher. Look how the industry reacts to them now? They started being treated with respect by the likes of Sam Raimi, Brian Singer and Christopher Nolan, and now they've earned the respect they deserve.
Video games just need the same treatment. Directors, writers and producers who stay true to the core essence of the games will bring about success with them.
Would anyone seriously turn down the idea of a Metroid movie done right? Sure you need to take creative liberties (as with all adaptations) like Samus speaking more and some other alterations but it is incredibly plausible. If done properly and with respect, it would be a tremendous film.
You need something to work with though. Doom, Blood Rayne, House of the Dead, etc. are not where you turn to for substance.
Castlevania could work. Just take the idea and concept behind Symphony of the Night and go from there. But will that occur? Likely no. But that doesn't mean it isn't possible.
And that's what all video game lovers need to take heart in.
@Lezard: Well... he did direct Event Horizon. Sure, aside from that, his filmography consists of mediocre crap and flat-out awful crap, but... yeah, nevermind.
@BryanH: Pre-order me a ticket, I've GOT to see that!
An alternative trailer could open with the Narrator saying "What's Black and White... and RED all over?" with random quick-shots of people getting hit by newspapers.

Event Horizon is still a reasonably good horror movie.
Everything else since... no comment.
