Portal 18 Minute Speed Run

From start to finish, one proficient Portal player sped through Valve's first-person teleporter in a total of 18 minutes and 5 seconds, not including load times. There's plenty of sneaky shortcuts and wall-climbing buggery being taken advantage of, but the merits of this ADD-filled speed run stand on their own.

The second half of the speed run is included after the jump. The final confrontation at the end of the second segment speeds up the already impressive, already posted sub-minute dispatching of GlaDOS.

1:45 Ico Speed Run

Over at Game Set Watch, we had our attention diverted from a series of posts we were going to do on why the Playstation 3 is not going to deliver on Ken Kutaragi's recent promise to be a fully functional time machine by this crazy speed-run of Ico for the Playstation 2. Link to the Past in 3:48

While tool-assisted demos are a hideous abomination to the speed runner's code of ethics, part of the steadfast moral weave that make this nation great, we couldn't resist posting this time attack of Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past that exploits a programming error to make a run through the game in three minutes and forty-eight seconds. Or as the speed runner describes his film: "SNES Zelda completed in a very quick manner by traveling in an alternate dimension through the walls." More »

Emulator Free Zelda Finished in 33 Minutes

Yesterday, we featured a tool-enabled Zelda speed run. A Kotaku reader pointed us to another speed run, this one done by fella named Mike "TSA" Damiani without emulators and tools. After Mike finished his run, he had this to say, "However, honest to god - I am not doing this game again. I've had it with this game. I love playing it when I can max out Link early on and destroy levels like a joke. But the speed run of this game is just so demanding and stressing. I do not see myself having the desire to get this game out to try again." Sure, Mike's tool-free run might be slower, but he did it on skill alone. And he was cool enough to give a how-to, which is after the jump.

Gaming Faster than a Speeding Bullet

In December we linked to a video of a speed run through Super Mario Bros.. Gaming Steve links to Speed Demos Archive, a collection of incredibly speedy jaunts through video games. Someone raced through The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker in 6 hrs and 42 minutes. It took me that long to find the first whatevermacallit that you had to sail for hours around the world to find. More »
