Man, I can't believe how many of you are ripping into the art. Not everything has to be generic anime styled. Yeah, the quality isn't great but its not worth tearing into it just because it doesn't fit with the main-stream designs.
Also, japan themselves have been trying to jump on the pokemon bang wagon ever since it got released, how come when Disney do it, everyone has a problem? You know, Digimon, Yu-gi-oh, Di Gata, Betaman, Bakugan, Beyblade and that dinosuar thing.. (can't remember) all fo these run off the same principle.
Its just about creating a product they can market, not an anime. It is built for merchandise and Disney aren't the first to try it.
Just for the record, im a huge anime fan and have been for around Captain Tsubasa around 15 or so years ago. Also i like Yu-gi-oh (shadow realm) and Digimon (first season).
Plus, Shin-Chan looks worse than this and that can be funny as hell!
From both an art and a story perspective, it was light years ahead of most shitty American kids shows/marketing tie-ins (obviously I don't mean classic American cartoons like Bugs Bunny and such).
Sure they look a little dated, but it was the 70's/80's. Plus, show me an American cartoon, where they not only what was most likely thousands of people, but then have the presence of mind to feel bad about it.

There's nothing I hate more in cartooning than some fake anime. It's just so blatant, and yet such an utter failure in character design.
Those characters just look creepy. It's taken Japan 20 years or so to make anime not creepy or weird looking (God, I hate you, Metropolis) so just trying to co-opt a fraction of the style of imagery is just utter fail. There's no emotion in those characters' eyes. They look like fucking lizards with spikey hair.
There's a reason why I responded to Star Blazers when I was 4 years old (besides the actual story, which brought me to the realization that everything Hanna Barbera made sucks....'specially Scooby Doo)...the artists are ARTISTS. As in their work is art. As much as I may not care for Pokemon (let's face it, a lot of that is shit art too), this is 100 times worse.
Call me a weeaboo if you like, but at least I've been a weeaboo since I was so young my mom had to ask me to stop watching Star Blazers butt-ass naked, and to at least bring a blanket when I rolled out of bed to watch it.
Then Disney turned around and ripped off quite a few of his works. Lion King most notably for being a near carbon copy of Kimba the White Lion minus the white lion bit.
I... I'm sorry, I really can't conceive a better comment then /facepalm. This is just so ridiculous.. Disney doesn't know that Pokemon is practically dead? The new show and games are full of fail.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so, some people like Oriental stuff while some others like things from this side of the world.
Murphy's law says that some Japanese dude said that Halo sucked because of it's "realistic" style. Which is practically non-existent since Humans were hideous in those games. God bless the helmets.
Bottom Line: Keep those kind of comments since they don't bring anything new to the table? Yeah, I think that's it.
@Soliduma: The "oriental" stuff isn't even oriental though. Everything stems from Tezuka in manga and anime and he was influenced by Disney works from the 1930s and 40s plus quite a few 20s and 30s comics. It's like how so many girl bands in Japan are just trying to mimic the Runaways
A fad works because the people actually accept it. Likewise, if you try to convince kids they're supposed to like your product they'll generally reject it.
@Shachihoko: Hahaha, you're funny! Funny joke! MAN YOU ARE A LAUGH RIOT TAKE IT ON THE ROAD AND MAKE MILLIONS.
You've obviously never seen a full 3D DS game. Doesn't even come close to this. Just because the game is low resolution doesn't mean the graphics are terrible.
