Issues that up til now, only Americans have had the pleasure of experiencing! That'll change next month with the PAL release.
Didn't Japan already have their release?
I've played this game off and on since a few weeks after launch, it's had a lot of serious problems, but at least Slant Six seem to care enough to fix them. It's only gotten better since. Next time I just hope Sony/Slant Six don't allow a game to be released like this one was...
Really, the game isn't bad at all unless your dislike FPSes, or team based gameplay. It's a different experience IMO.
I'll probably go back to playing this now. It was fun and playable before, but I definitely a bunch of headaches, lag, and some sloppiness from Slant Six. It's a good time still though, I think it's worth consideration if you're in the market for a headset especially.
But they better not have a repeat of this game's launch.. that was just sad. This game was simply not finished when it was released into the wild.
but as gamers lets not lose hope. not all games luanch as badly as SOCOM did. R2 launch was pretty damn good, and Warhawk was pretty solid.... and teher are others that were good. in my honest opinion the launch window of socom was way off..... this game should have released in the summer, how the fuck am i gonna pop socom in knowing im gonna have Killzone 2 in the same room? thats my biggest worry.
i just PRAY that KIllzone 2 gets it going right on launch. i know that if it lanuches without a big hitch, others will follow suit and pick up the game.
@zanzibarlegend: Warhawk was horrendous at launch. Not as bad as Socom, but still...
Connectivity issues, phantom players, the damn tank glitch (although it was fun to hunt the bastards down), stat issues, mic issues, stat padders and many more.
I love the hell out of that game, but even it had a fair bit of issues out the gate that were only rectified in the initial months. That said, most stuff was fixed in a few weeks, and the tank glitch in particular squelched a month and a half later, not anywhere near waiting 3 months to have what you were initially promised.
I don't know if anything they do can fix that game. I've lost all hope in the franchise, and I feel that only Zipper Entertainment can fix that. I might pop it back in just to prove myself right, or be pleasantly surprised...
This game has been a total trainwreck. I bought it to get the Blue Tooth headset and to see what all the SOCOM buzz was about, but I get kicked out of just about every match I try to join when I click the "ready" command.
It's infuriating. I really hope this patch fixes all those problems.
@DugDawg: I applied the patch. The good news is, I was able to hit "ready" without being kicked for the first time in 2 weeks. The bad news is, all the rest of the game's problems are still there.
1) Switching weapons and going in and out of scoped view is still cumbersome and tedious compared to newer games.
2) Gameplay still lags, especially in close combat.
3) It still takes forever to actually play the game, and the new quick match feature doesn't work nearly as well as you would expect.
4) You still start in total darkness.
5) There's no easy way to throw a grenade or smoke without making yourself really vulnerable -- i.e., switching to grenades is sloppy and takes too long.
6) I still get plenty of server error messages that claim my stats may not be tracked, etc.
@VilgeDuin: i would usually pullout my sonyfanboy super special, but you are correct. this game has to be the worst launch of ANY PS3 game out to date. im just gonna swallow the bitter pill of reality and play the thing becuz it is fun when the game gets going.
i hope this patch is the patch to rule them all or else....
i will stick to R2 while i wait for the Behemoth that is Killzone 2
and yeah MAG seems to be a placeholder name until it gets a official name. when a teaser site launches we should see the real name come out.
I recently bought Socom Confrontation because I needed the Blue Tooth headset and was curious about what a Socom game was like. I liked GRAW on the Xbox 360, so I was eager to get my hands on Socom. After the considerable time it took to install the game, download the patches and find a working server, I couldn't help but be a bit underwhelmed.
However, when I finally was able to join a game with 32 players, I got to experience what the game was all about. When everything is working -- which is rare -- the game can be a blast to play. I found myself loving the huge maps, sharp graphics and tight team-focused gameplay. That said, the sheer number of network problems I've experienced with the game are unforgiveable.
I get kicked out of just about every match I join because of a network error of some sort. This never happens with any of my other games, so I find it inexcusable. I've searched the forums for solutions, opened ports on my router, and even read that you cannot click "ready" until waiting in a lobby for at least 3+ minutes if you don't want to be instant kicked -- which incidentally, is what happens to me about every time. Guess I better start waiting 3 minutes ...
That is absolute bullshit nonsense if you ask me. This game is online only. Why is it so hard to get into a match and why in the hell it so time consuming?
It's a real shame because I can see how this game has a lot of potential to be great. But it really needs a complete multiplayer networking overhaul, not to mention a single player mode, to truly justify it's price tag among the competition.
Thankfully, I bought the game for 30% off from Blockbuster (see the deal posted on slickdeals.net or fat wallet.com) mainly for the headset, which is awesome and even works with my phone or in my computer as a microphone (when attached with usb cable). It's a great piece of hardware.
I hope this patch fixes some major problems because otherwise I'm sticking to Resistance 2.
The only thing I really have a pain in the ass with on the new socom is switching weapons in an effective manner.
To all those bitching about the beta you do know what betas are right? Even more so when its a beta for an online game.
Granted yes they did release the game too early when the beta was proof it wasnt ready, still yet anyone crying about the beta should be barred from being able to participate in any and I mean ANY future betas period.
Do hope the patch helps fix the issues with folks running up the mountains. Since jesus christ its irritating having to shoot twats off the ridges with my M14 every few minutes in a round.
I look forward to the D-Pad lean too. I enjoy the game myself but they really did screw the pooch on this one Bro. That said, I'd love to jump in game with you once they get it all sorted out. ;)
@EDGE: For myself its mostly sorted out since its not the huge mess like launch. Although there are a few small issues that appear at times.
But I was quite suprised to how well the game held up with my being in Japan vs folks in the US. So the netcode seems to be pretty solid in that sense. Also the quality of the voice with the BT coms works great.
Yeah seeing how launch went and the results from the beta I do see how the games rep got screwed. Along with the devs.
The final beta that /6 released was open, and they mentioned on their website that it was a fair representation of the gameplay (and as hindsight shows, it kinda was)...
I'd not played a SOCOM game since the first one, and I wasn't really looking forward to it anyway, but being in the beta I thought Id get as much play out of it as I could... ever since it's release Ive heard nothing but bad things...
I agree about not basing your opinions on betas, but in this particular case the beta was more like a demo... which its more than OK to base an opinion of a title from :P
as much as a socom fiend that i am, words cannot express how slant six allowed this game out of the gate the way it was. no doubt i have some good times when i pop it in now and then., but goddamn /6, a christmas patch release would have helped your game sell more. stupid idea to push it back to january. this is a spit in the face to socom fans. fuck the holidays,i have worked the holidays before in my life. one holiday week is not gonna kill your damn dog. i refuse to play socom until the patch releases. thank god i at least got a nifty headset out of the deal.
When I got into the beta I was pretty excited... that excitement dissipated almost immediately.
The loading times and lobby system were horrible, and when I finally managed to join a game it was so buggy and un-user friendly that I was put right off...
Metal Gear Online killed my interest in Socom by being a much better game.

And while nullifying all player progress to boot.
Should have just waited for Zipper to finish up MAG and slap the Socom name on that.
