Understandable. Might want to buckle up, though, because three of the most-requested games for the service are finally making an appearance.

This coming Monday - November 23 - sees the release of the original SNES Mario Kart, for 800 Points. Good news. Better news is to come, though, as "sometime this holiday season" Nintendo will also release the original SNES Pilotwings and the original N64 Smash Bros. Exact release dates and pricing to come on those two.

Leaving just one game on my Virtual Console wish list. Jurassic Park. Chop chop, Nintendo.

<![CDATA[Modern Warfare 2 Launch Party, Feat. DJ Smash Bros!]]> It sounds like there will be plenty of midnight events to go around for the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 next week. But only one is walking distance from my house.

A video game store finally opened up super close to my house. The Play N Trade in Highlands Ranch plans to have a midnight release party for Modern Warfare 2 starting at 8 p.m. Monday.

The party will include Call of Duty tournaments and a special appearance by local DJs SMASH BROS.

I think I'm going to go check it out. Is anyone else planning on hitting up a launch party Monday night? Let us know.

<![CDATA[Reminder: Japan's Virtual Console Is Better Than Yours]]> Nintendo Japan have released the list of games that will be appearing on the country's Virtual Console for the month of January. It makes for good reading, especially if you like Smash Bros.

Yes, not only are Japan getting a Nintendo 64 title, they're getting one of the hottest, with the original Smash Bros. to be made available for 1200 points. Joining it will be other games you wish you had but don't, including Fantasy Zone II, Spriggin Mark 2 for the PC Engine and Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair for the Master System.

<![CDATA[Brawl Once "Had A Lot More Characters"]]> Smash Bros. Brawl has more characters than you can shake a lamb's tail at. Too many, perhaps? Don't dare suggest that, the series' fans will string you up. Instead, suggest that the game doesn't have enough characters. That'll wash over well. With fans and the game's creator Masahiro Sakurai, who says that earlier in the game's development he "had a lot more characters", but had to trim the numbers as they got closer to release. So which ones made the cut? Sakurai's not telling, leaving you free to chime in with your own hair-brained speculation. Me, I was hoping for one of the Rito postmen to make an appearance...

<![CDATA[This Is Nintendo's Excuse For Smash Bros' European Delay]]> Laurent Fischer is senior marketing director at Nintendo Europe. Laurent knows why Smash Bros. Brawl will be released five months later in Europe than it was in Japan. The answer? Exactly what you thought it would be: localisation timeframes, along with some bonus, very vague stuff about Nintendo's production capabilities. Answers Europeans are very accustomed to, and probably getting quite sick of, as they're only pointing out a disease's symptoms, not giving them news of a possible cure.

<![CDATA[Super Smashing Proposal]]> marryme.jpgWhen it came time to pop the question, reader Brian Klima did it right. No scoreboard message at a baseball game, no skywriting, no jewelry buried in the dessert. He proposed marriage to his one true love with all the charm and romance that is Super Smash Bros. Brawl Grab your hankies and hit the jump.

In Brian's words:

"I came home from work with the ring on Wednesday, and while she was attending her grad school classes, I got to work on a custom level that would successfully convey my intentions.

"I first tried spelling out 'Will You Marry Me?' but the limitations on the level's file size wouldn't allow it, so I then settled for the abridged version, "MARRY ME?" I set the match time limit to infinity, and then simply set up Mario, Peach, and Kirby (her favorite) around the level so that the camera was zoomed out as much as possible and the entire message fit on the screen. I then turned the TV off and just waited for her to come home.

"When she went to watch TV, the first image that appeared when the set powered on was my level. At first she asked, "Oh, are you in the middle of a game?" But after she noticed the small box in my hand, and I insisted that she give the TV another look, she figured out what was going on."

"Oh, and she said, 'Yes!'"

Pardon me, there's ... some dust in my eye or something ... That really is beautiful Brian. (Just one thing, you forgot to tell us your lucky bride's name.)

And, genuinely, best wishes from Kotaku for your new life together.

Update: Brian writes to say his fiancee's name is Allison, and your kind words and reactions mean a lot to them.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Asking Stupid Questions]]> Gee, uh, nuetral or undecided? I don't know...from where I'm sitting, I didn't think the game went down too well. Didn't really get anyone excited, didn't sell too many copies. Maybe, Nintendo, you'd be better off leaving the beating of this dead horse and just shift the dev team onto something like Wii Clean.

<![CDATA[UK Supermarket Sees Funny Side Of Euro Brawl Delays]]> Europe's delay in getting Smash Bros Brawl is causing great amounts of distress. So it's good to know that amidst all the wailing and teeth-gnashing, somebody can see the funny side of it all. Above is a shot of the game's product page from the online store of British supermarket chain Tesco. Obviously not a release date that's come from Nintendo themselves, but hey, the way things are going it may not end up being too far off the mark!

<![CDATA[European Brawl Release Date Announced?]]> Dutch site GamerCC are reporting (Nintendo are yet to confirm) that, during the Micromania Games awards show held in France earlier today, it was announced that Super Smash Bros. Brawl would be released in Europe on June 6. That's June 6 2008 for the (understandably) paranoid amongst you. Bummed at the delay? Look on the bright side! That's less than four months away! It could have been much, much worse.

<![CDATA[Wario's New (Old) Clothes]]> While all of the other members of the Smash Bros. Brawl cast can change the color of their costumes or change accessories, Wario gets his very own change of clothes, presumably once he blows a hole in his other pants. Along with the Blue Oyster Wario we've seen since the very first trailers ran, classic Wario will make an appearance, wearing his traditional suspenders and cap combo in a variety of different colors and (gag) flavors. The promised daily weekday updates continue at the Smash Bros. Dojo! Join us later this week to see if Masahiro Sakurai finally breaks down and just posts a picture of his name scribbled over and over again on a diner napkin.

<![CDATA[Brawl Gets Mega Meta With Pictochat]]> Normally, we're not in the business of providing our thoughts on daily Super Smash Bros. Brawl news, for our opinions on, say, Ashley's Theme from WarioWare aren't that strong. However, when Sakurai and team do something as oddball as including a Pictochat themed stage, it simply can't wait until the weekly Dojo Dump rolls around. The arena's spartan appearance is made more magical by the random drawing of stage elements, like wind, platforms and thunderclouds. It even features Wii Channel tunes to really up the self-referentiality.

The only way they can up their meta game at this point is to include Shigeru Miyamoto's bicycle as a playable character. Beyond that, I can't see this game becoming any more packed with fan service.

<![CDATA[Smash Bros. Brawl - Fire Emblem Represent!]]> A new challenger has appeared! Hailing from the world of Tellius, Ike from the GameCube title Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance joins the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. Wielding a massive two-handed sword in one hand and bringing his Aether attack from the GCN title with him, Ike is certainly bad ass enough to replace Roy and Marth, whose popularity in Super Smash Bros. Melee caused Nintendo to start publishing the Fire Emblem titles stateside in the first place.

<![CDATA[Smash Bros. Dojo Update - Gooey Bomb]]> Looks like we'll have to be keeping an eye on the Smash Bros. In the past few days they've posted pictures of character profiles on Link and Mario, and now they've started highlighting new items, beginning with the Gooey Bomb. It's basically a sticky grenade with a twist, in that once you have one stuck on you there's a chance you can touch another character and pass it on. This is exactly why Master Chief needs to show up in Brawl. Never happen of course, but doesn't it just scream MC?

I doubt we'll get in the habit of posting updates for the Dojo on a regular basis, because their new blog format and the daily updates they've posted so far seem to indicate that they've got more tidbits to hand out than we have room to post. Stupid blog format.

<![CDATA[Wii Having BC Issues?]]>

Backwards compatibility is a tricky thing. Seems so simple: Make the new machine so it can play old games. But, alas, difficult. According to one reader, the Nintendo Wii joins the ranks of the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as yet another console that can't quite get its BC on.

Kotakuite Chris writes:

I popped Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour into my Wii. It started loading my saved data off the memory card, but stopped in the middle of it, and displayed this message: "An error has occured. Please turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo GameCube instruction booklet for more information."

I tried switching memory cards, and got the same message. I tried having no memory card inserted, and after selecting to continue without saving, got the same message. I plugged my GameCube back in, and tried the same thing with the same disc, and it all worked perfectly fine.

Chris says GC titles Smash Bros. and Viewtiful Joe come up kosher on the Wii. Anyone else having BC issues or just this dude?
