While I did put Skate 1 away after about a month, I'd say the only thing keeping me from buying 2 and 3 are that 1 seemed so complete... I mean... one stick for board, one stick for body, and it's intuitive enough to quickly get, and hard enough to train and train on. I really didn't find myself going "you know, this could use a ____." Pretty shocking for a brand new(?) game idea really. #skate3
Skate 2 is the only game that I occasionally pop in and play just for sheer enjoyment. No scores, no multiplayer, no quests, just fun (like real skateboarding is with friends). #skate3
I got so bored with Skate 2. I couldn't even put my finger on what I didn't enjoy about it. I loved the first one, and I just felt a bit lost in the second one I think. The most fun I had with Skate 2 was playing the bails multiplayer on the demo #skate3
@soap_box: Yeah, same here. With Skate 1 I would waste hours just tricking off of a simple curb stop but something about Skate 2 keeps you traveling instead of skating.
Hard to explain what it was but it probably has to do with level design. #skate3
I'm not a fan of the controls in Skate. Personally the way a game controls is probably the most important factor for me when it comes to video games and if they are uncomfortable or have a steep learning curve I'll tend to pass on it. I realize that I may be giving up on a decent game here and there but at least I'm not one to not play a game because the graphics aren't good or something superficial like that. I mean controls are the foundation to a game and for me make or break it.
@(Starman) Alpha: troll, spammer, asshat... these are all things I've been called on Kotaku, and I've been here since the very beginning. I'm not concerned. #skate3
@rainofwalrus: Eh, I wouldn't worry. Loads of people put links just after their name, like a sig on a forum. Simply put, if they don't like it, don't click it, simple. :D #skate3
I'd really love a feature where you could see your friends in the same city doing their own stuff, then seamlessly set up a game of SKATE, some Hall of Meat or just kick around in a freeskate.
Wasn't there something like that in Shawn White's Snowboarding? #skate3
@DragonNinja: not exactly. but Shawn White's Snowboarding did have an incredible carving engine. I still go back every now and then to carve some powder. the rest of the game is pretty weak. #skate3
@rainofwalrus: I'd bitch about the game but I got it for 20 bucks a day after release on amazon... so it was worth every penny. Only enjoyed the racing parts, though. That and just going from the peak to the base in one run. #skate3
@Jezuz: because you love the carving engine, amirite? use both analogs while carving and you'll see what I mean: layback cutbacks spraying powder just like they should. I dont think gaming press knew enough to praise these dynamics in reviews. #skate3
@jp182: Shawn White's Snowboarding did something no other snowboarding game has... copied Skate's dual-analog control.
LA = boarder's shoulders (traditional turning)
RA = boarder's hips (stance rotation; checkslides; reverts; laybacks)
so you can trad-carve a slope/hip with LA and then ever-so-slightly rotate your hips to simulate deepheel/deeptoe. It's pretty remarkable if you take the time to play with it.
most people just wanna barrel roll (read: 1080 stalefish). #skate3
@rainofwalrus: i would love to see a snowboarding game in the vein of Skate, get some pros on there and have some sick mountains, with heli-drops and all that good stuff. have the design your board feature of coolboarders 2, it would be interesting and fun to see what EA could do with today's tech. #skate3
@HeySmellThis: Let's just hope it's as immersive as in Skate 2, full of those twists and turns, epic monologues and fleshened-out plot we've come to expect from Skate #skate3
@GohanGVO: They're all just skateboard parts, but I have to agree that I'd rather have 6 feet of gum. I also prefer to get my fruit measured out in feet too.
@ClaudioIphigenia: Sour is fine, but apple flavored stuff always tastes like shit. It doesn't taste like apples, and not in the super-sugary Apple Jacks way. #skate3
@spannu: I like sour candy, but I don't like sour gum. You know how you kinda burn your mouth up if you hold the sour sugar from the outside of Sour Patch Kids in your mouth for too long. It's basically the same effect that sour gum gives you. #skate3
I was absolutely pumped to see this announcement until I saw the video. One thing that I have always loved about skate was the sheer fact that (other than the 360 hardflip) you couldn't do tricks like darkslides. All my friends clamored for it but I kept telling them it was BS and they won't throw it in. Why? Cause there are like(to the best of my knowledge) 2 skaters in the world that can darkslide almost on cue and 1 that can kickflip underflip. If it wasn't a common trick amongst the skating community then it will not be in the game.
To me all this really means is that within the first day of release there are going to be hundreds of videos of kickflip underslip darkslides posted online with the hopes of one user getting that ever so coveted spot of number one due to the fact that it will be one of the first video's posted and most likely most voted upon.
