"Monster" games are great, but you can't really expect most people to identify with a rampaging serial killer. I'm looking at you, Kratos.

"But unless and until I found out what that is, Alex could get old fast after the first hundred elbow-dropped tanks or so "
then you go on to say
"I'm almost willing to say that even if the plot is horrible, that won't make the game less fun;"
LOL, lets keep our thoughts consistent when we write something shall we?
Also docking a game for broken promises is complete bullshit when its something we have known for the better half of a year considering Radical actually came out and apologized for it multiple time last year. It wasn't an easy decision on their part, they needed to polish up the single player game way more. They never promised it, get over it and stop whining.

Example: Assassin's Creed, which I didn't want to compare Prototype to, but oh well. The repetition drove away a lot of gamers, but I hung in there UNTIL the "plot twist." That made me give up on the game altogether even though the gameplay wasn't altered at all by it.
And a broken promise is still broken even after an apology.
04/08/09
Why "respectively"? C'mon, let's be optimistic! If past experience is anything to go by, there's no reason the PS3 version shouldn't be both broken and DLC-deprived...
04/08/09
I hope this is that on crack.

Bring on inFamous!

You mean PC and Ps3 respectfully.
PC gets the broken game and PS3 gets no DLC.

If it is like Web of Shadows, it will be good enough.

Really. I don't.
Seeing as it usually ends up being something that could have been added in the game in the first place.
Oh, and also...
MODS.
PC WINS.
FLAWLESS VICTOLY.

I am sure it is going to be far from perfect as most "sandbox" games are, but I think I'll enjoy it for what it is.
04/08/09
Protoype looks really fun for small periods of time. But hopefully it won't really get stale, this is a must rent now.

That and it's Activision.
04/08/09
When compared to inFamous, I'm still more interested in Prototype. I don't know what it is.
04/08/09
I'm the exact opposite. inFamous seems like a much more polished, cohesive experience, whereas Prototype struck me as the developers just kept throwing ideas into a pot and mixing them up, hoping their end result would work. It all just reeks to me of a bunch of developers going "Hey, y'know what'd be cool...?"
That being said, I think there's still room for both games to coexist.
04/08/09
Whenever I saw the two games I felt like Infamous looked like Uncharted with super powers, while prototype was Open world Dark Sector.Ones appeal being story, the others being gore and violence.
Theirs room for both, but im going with Sucker Punch as they really have yet to make a bad game in my eyes.
04/08/09
That is cool. And I could do it 500000 times. This game sounds so extremely awesome. inFamous just looked....boring. I don't know if it's just me, but I would much rather jump buildings while beating things up with tanks for hours then shoot things with lighting.
04/08/09
Agreed entirely. Sucker Punch hasn't steered me wrong yet, and I actually really like the more subdued approach to the gameplay in inFAMOUS. It actually looks like it'll be both fun and challenging, as opposed to Prototype which seems to be a walking example of God Mode. I'm gonna play both though, as I've said.
@D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!:
I personally think elbow dropping a tank is an incredibly stupid attack; I don't know who came up with it but it just seems dumb. I do love the idea of whipping a human body into a helicopter's blades to knock it out of the sky though.
And for the record, electrokinesis is fucking awesome. Much cooler than being a walking blob of slime. Venom already had a game, he doesn't need more. :[

04/08/09
I seriously don't get how that can't sound cool to you man. It's like the crazy, over the top stuff gaming use to be, like kung fu kicking raptors.
I miss the 16 bit era :(
04/08/09
04/08/09
It's because it's just not. I'm a Final Fantasy fan. I like my attacks to be about style and flash, not just absurd brute strength. :P
Besides, you probably haven't seen the new inFamous trailer yet; some of the shit they chain together in there is just insane. My jaw dropped when I saw some of the combos they made the main character pull off.
04/08/09
04/08/09
04/08/09
Yeah I feel the same way even though I want both games. There's just something about Prototype that I think looks more interesting than inFamous.
04/08/09
It's probably just a matter of preference; people who prefer more visceral, brutal combat will probably prefer Prototype, and people who prefer more story-driven, stylish gameplay will probably prefer inFamous. I think they occupy different sides of the same coin, like GTA and Saint's Row.
04/08/09
04/08/09
04/08/09
Right now I'd have to say I'm more interested in inFamous, but that's more due to a lack of knowledge about Prototype than anything else. Both seem interesting, but they'll probably both be rentals before anything else.
I'll have to check out the new inFamous trailers (on Gametrailers I'd assume?) as the previous ones I saw left me underwhelmed. The electric attacks just seemed extremely repetitive.
04/08/09
President Ronnie never bought me the burger he promised. :[

Got ya covered. The problem with inFAMOUS is that the people playing in most of the trailers have been extremely low-levelled, having access only to the basic lightning bolt and grenades.
The powers you can actually GET in the game are a hell of a lot more stylish, and with the ability to chain them together as shown in the trailer, that makes it even better.
04/08/09
Oh, and also "repetitive gameplay". fix'd.
04/08/09
04/08/09
When did Radical steer you wrong? Hulk, Scarface? lol
There is no blood in inFamous from what I have seen. Looks to be way less edgy imho. More kiddie.
04/08/09
Where would blood come out when you're ELECTROCUTING people? Just because a game doesn't have people getting sliced in half and heads exploding everywhere doesn't make it kiddy. It's a game where the main character lives through an apocalyptic explosion during the INTRO. Not kiddy, pal. It's just not using extreme violence and gore as its key selling point, much like Uncharted compared to Gears.
@WolFEnsTeiN68:
It really IS a great trailer. One of the better trailers I've seen for any game; really gets you pumped. I think they're just finally busting the gates open now that the game's release is so close.
04/08/09
But when you say stylish and flashy, as a FF fan I guess you mean, pick a move from a menu and let the predetermined series of events happen. Sure they're stylish and flashy but...you just picked them from a menu .
But I do think inFamous looks like it's going to turn out to be a fun game as well. Personally, I'm happy we are getting both these games. They both look like alot of fun. But completely different. I really wish people would see that. Prototype looks like it is going to be over-the-top, frentic action (like H:UD). inFamous looks more GTA-y and about finding interesting cover and firing solutions.
04/08/09
Yeah, as I said, there's absolutely room for both games; they fill different niches of the open world genre. I'm going to play Prototype, but my interest is more focused on inFamous because I am a huge fan of electrokinesis.
I once wrote a superhero pitch when I was looking for work at Marvel based around an electrokinetic superhero. Ironically, several of that character's special attacks ended up in inFAMOUS; as soon as I first saw the trailer where Cole jumps onto a dude and sucks the life out of him through his hands, I was convinced I was going to buy the game day one.
04/08/09
:D :D :D :D :D
04/08/09
That trailer is what validated my hype for the game; I've always been INTERESTED in it, even all the way back to the very first trailer, but some of the 'pew pew pew' gameplay footage was making it hard to convince myself the game was worth following.
That trailer changed things, and knowing there are still more powers we have yet to see (like the Gigawatt Electric Blades!) just makes the wait even harder.
04/08/09
04/08/09
infamous looks rather boring to me. I certainly don't need constant 100% gore to keep me happy, but hell, a little bit of action is a good thing. I would probably buy this game if one of the powers was the guy rubbing his feet on the carpet really fast and shocking someone from behind. "Wowzers! That stung a little. Don't ever do that again!" See? To me that would be pretty sweet.
04/08/09
Clearly you didn't watch the new trailer then.
04/08/09
I'm not sure if either is a definite buy yet. I am thinking Infamous has more of a "plot" and I would probably play through to get a resolution. Prototype looks a lot more "action driven" rather than focusing on story. Seeing as I have a back log of RPG's to finish, Prototype looks like a filler of an hour or two of mindless fun to break the grind.
For me, a new ip is definite buy only through an awesome story or incredible replay. So I'm actually interested in playing both. I think they both have the potential to reach "buy" in diferent ways, but they both may also be resigned to a rent.
Here's to hoping for the best for both.
04/08/09
Electokinesis is an AWESOME power, if nothing else for the stunts that a creative person could pull off. Infamous could be interesting, but it would only tide me over as i wait on baited breath for my Static Shock game....
;-D
