<![CDATA[Nike Thanks the PlayStation with 24 Pairs of Shoes]]> Nike sent a size 10 love note to Sony for past collaborations on console-themed kicks, but this series, based on the face buttons of a PlayStation controller, might be a little hard to find. Only 24 pairs will be made.

They also won't be sold to the general public. Ron Eagle, the director of product publicity for the PlayStation, said he got a call from Nike, who wanted to make him some PlayStation-themed shoes to say thanks for past collaboration and support. Eagle is a self-described "shoe guy," so of course the idea fired him up.

When I got the call and was told that they wanted to make a shoe, of course the first thing I asked was … what kind? They told me they were working on a new training shoe, one that would be technically very advanced, but would harken back to some of the great training shoes from their past, like the ones worn by Bo Jackson and John McEnroe. As soon as they said the word McEnroe – I was completely sold as the original Air Trainer 1, is one of my all time favorite shoe designs and something I remember wearing to school.

It started from there, asking me about favorite colors, and anything that I did or didn't like. The designers are just so good at taking input and making really slick creative choices, that when the line drawings come over, I'm just stunned. As you already know, we like to do things that haven't been done or are totally unique and that was one of the things that the guys at Nike knew that they wanted to do when they asked me what I liked.

Sony and Nike teamed up on highly sought-after Air Force One designs in 2006 and in 2009. Eagle said in those efforts, "we were working toward something with the other shoes. ... This being a "thank you" it could have been so many things – yet the guys at Nike got that it should be unique and it makes it very special to me because of that."

Doesn't sound like they'll hit eBay anytime soon. You can see more of the designs over at the link.

<![CDATA[Five Pairs Of Gamer Shoes I Want To Buy]]> I'm obsessed with shoes that have anything to do with video games. Luckily, people on the Internet are too, so it's not hard to find a fabulous pair with a quick Google search and a sharp eye for detail.

There's a lot to choose from when it comes to gamer-created gamer apparel, of course. Also people are coming up with new stuff all the time. But I've picked out five pairs of shoes that I've found in the last year which I'd seriously considering buying if I weren't a starving journalist. Check 'em out and by all means point me to your favorites, if you've got a link.

Princess Peach Trainers
Created By: Daniel Reese (a.k.a. BRASS MONKI)
Shoe Type: Nike Trainers
Theme: Super Paper Mario
Spotted On: BRASS MONKI's blog
Total Cost: £135/$230

These fancy kicks were mocked up by Daniel Reese by my request after I got in touch with him over pricing on the Moogle shoes. Even if it's just a Photoshop job of what the shoes would look like, I think the design is spiffy, I love the color pink and I find that there's not nearly enough in the way of Princess Peach-related shoes to buy these days.

NES Controller Keds (Classic)*
Created By: Danielle (a.k.a. Cole530)
Shoe Type: Keds slip-ons
Theme: Nintendo hardware
Spotted On: Zazzle
Total Cost: $74.50
*Not pictured per Zazzle's site policy.

I remember decorating Keds in summer camp when I was a kid with fabric glue and glitter, but my childish creations are nothing compared to these kicks. I like the design because it's subtle and the colors will go with most of my wardrobe. Unfortunately, I find Keds slip-ons to be beastly uncomfortable until you beat them into submission — and that would probably damage the paint.

NES Controller Keds (Hipster)
Created By: Rachelle Williams (a.k.a. ParadoxArtistry)
Shoe Type: LA Gear Slip-ons
Theme: Nintendo hardware
Spotted On: Etsy
Total Cost: $85

I've never worn LA Gear brand slip-ons, so I'll just have to trust the artist's claim that these shoes are comfortable. Other than that, I like how vibrant that red acrylic looks — even if it is too loud to get away with wearing to an office job. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the cord spelling out N-E-S on the back of the right shoe. My preference with gamer clothing of any kind is subtlety that separates gamers from posers. In other words, if you have to ask me what's on my shoes, you clearly aren't cool enough to hang out with me.

Ms. Pac-Man Mary Janes
Created By: Lindsay (a.k.a. emandsprout)
Shoe Type: Rubber-soled Mary Janes
Theme: Ms. Pac-Man
Spotted On: Etsy
Total Cost: $28

It's not hard to find ladies sizes of shoes, but I rarely run across actual ladies shoes (heels, slingbacks, etc.) in my quest for gamer clothing. These classic Mary Jane slip-ons are decorated with what looks like felt pieces and tiny accessories, so I'd be a little worried about ruining them after only three wearings. But still, it's Ms. Pac-Man and it's comparatively cheap.

Unofficial Kotaku Shoes
Created By: Adidas
Shoe Type: Trainers
Theme: Kotaku
Spotted In: Nordstrom's in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Total Cost: Can't quite remember what it cost in the store, but similar shoes on Adidas' site go for $90

I spotted these while Hanukkah shopping with my dad earlier this year and almost bought them just because they had the Kotaku color scheme. Sadly, though, they only had mens sizes too big for my little feet. Also, while I could claim I had Kotaku shoes, they're not really Kotaku-themed enough to speak for themselves. Still cool, though.

These five pairs are but a few examples of awesome gamer shoes to be found on the Internet. For further reading, go check out some of the other shoes we've spotted over the years.

<![CDATA[At Long Last... Moogle Shoes! Sort Of]]> It's no secret that I have a thing for gaming-themed shoes (it's a chick thing), so I simply have to blog about Daniel "Brass Monki" Reese's custom video game shoes — featuring Moogles.

Normally, you don't see Moogle-related fashion items when searching for Final Fantasy apparel. I had a particularly fruitless search for someone's Christmas present a few years back that ended in a lousy key chain and damaged friendship. Depending on how much Reese charges for his custom-made kicks, I can maybe count on repairing it a little with some Moogle shoe love.

That, or I can just keep them for myself. In which case, I may want to consider his Tetris-inspired designs instead. So pretty.

Keep in mind, however, that Reese's designs are sometimes little more than expert Photoshop jobs. "At the moment, the designs I put together are only concepts," he writes on his blog. But he's willing to take commissions to make concept reality.

<![CDATA[Gender Equality At Nike: Pac-Man Shoes]]> Remember those sexy Ms. Pac-Man Nike Dunks from last month? This month, Nike is previewing their male counterpart.

Though the shoes don't bear Pac-Man's actual likeness, they've got the same color palette as the classic arcade marquee. That means lots of yellow, lots of blue and not very much pink.

As awesome as the shoes look, I'm not sure if I'd shell out for them. Dunks are comfortable and I do like bright, shiny things. But when it comes to video game shoes, I'd really rather have Pac-Man's actual face on my kicks. Or at least an etching of the ghosties on the sole of the shoe — that'd be awesome.

<![CDATA[Flock Gets Spring Update, Fan-made Shoes]]> Flock! is getting a PC update tomorrow called "Spring" that features six new levels, a new animal and special objects that "change the way you herd."

To go with this announcement, Capcom has also blogged a fabulous pair of fan-made shoes.

Flock! for those of you sheeple who haven't gotten into it, yet, is an adorable puzzle game where players control a UFO and try to herd animals through hazardous environments back to the main spaceship, "The Mother Flocker." The unbearable cuteness of the game has spawned a playset that you can get from the Capcom store for $30.

Check out the game in action.

<![CDATA[Ms. Pac-Man Gets Her Own Nikes]]> Nike isn't shy about flirting with video game references for its Nike Skateboarding line of sneakers, having already released Dunks "inspired by" 720° and Skate or Die. And speaking of not shy... Ms. Pac-Man sneakers!

You'd have to be pretty comfortable with that level of color on your feet, particularly since those colors—apparently lifted from the Ms. Pac-Man arcade cabinet—we're designed to attract attention amid the visual din of a noisy arcade during the early 80s. Fortunately, I am that comfortable, so a pre-ordering I will do!

If you're similarly uninhibited in your footwear choices, expect these to drop in May at select retailers.

Like most Nike SB sneakers, they appear to be largely logo free—swoosh and Nike badge excepted. That means these kicks are more homage than they are officially licensed.

<![CDATA[Sweet Noby Noby Kicks Give Me Nightmares]]> Reader Tonks sends us a picture of this amazing Noby Noby Boy shoe he made.

On the shoe you can see that Noby Noby boy has stretched himself through the eyelets of the shoe. Pretty amazing.

But as much as I love shoes, and shoes featuring games, I don't think I could ever wear these. I'd be too paranoid that that errant shoelace would eventually start working up my ankle in search of the moon.

<![CDATA[We Have a Pair of Playstation Air Force 1s, Want Em?]]> Yes, we have a pair. No, you can't have them.

Well, not unless you're willing to make a donation. We'll be auctioning off these amazing Air Force 1 Playstation 2 Tenth Anniversary shoes (size 11.5) on eBay later this month, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to anti-Teen Dating Violence organization Jennifer Ann's Group.

The Air Force 1s are brand new, unworn and part of an only 50-pair run.

Check out the jump for a gallery of these black and blue bad boys, which feature leather uppers and gradient shading.

<![CDATA[Nike Air Force Ones Reworked to Celebrate Playstation Anniversary]]> Playstation and Nike are at it again, collaborating on a new pair of Air Force Ones to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Playstation 2's launch in Japan.

The new Playstation Air Force Ones feature full patent leather upper and a color design very similar color to the original Playstation 2 Air Force Ones.

This time around only 50 of the shoes are being created. So if you want a pair, you better start saving and check out eBay.

The shoes currently listed on eBay, by the way, are being sold for the Shoes that Fit charity which helps buy shoes and clothes for kids to wear to school.

<![CDATA[Nike's Nintendo Shoe Blitz Continues With Wii Blazers]]> The checklist of Nintendo-themed Nike brand sneakers gets a 1-UP today, with the first peek at another Wii-inspired shoe, this time of the Nike Blazer variety.

WeeklyDrop tipped us off to the new shoe, due this Summer, which joins the Wii inspired Nike Air Force 2 High—complete with Wii Remote condom details—and the Nike Air Max Classic with NES styling. Since my Nike SB "Old Spice" Dunks go mostly unworn, I've learned I just can't wear a white shoe. And Blazers? Not my footwear friend.

But, hey, we know Nintendo fans adore all manner of white clothing, so these should be a massive success.

<![CDATA[Katamari Damacy Gets Ported To Nike Dunks]]> The Kotaku readership may not be aware of the Nike Dunk customizing subculture that makes up a small portion of sneakerheads. But they will after seeing these expert level Katamari Damacy-styled Dunks.

Kotaku reader Steve has noticed that we don't shy away from posting pictures of video game-themed shoes. Or cakes. Or any internet flotsam and jetsam. Therefore, he's come to us to let his fellow readers know of his love for Katamari Damacy, painting on perfectly good Nike sneakers, and his girlfriend, the actual hardcore fan of the Prince of All Cosmos.

Classy stuff, Steve. Now get back to me on those Cho Aniki-custom Dunks. Just name your price.

<![CDATA[EA Sports Gets Into The Sneaker Business]]> Game sneakers? Old news! But it's new news for EA Sports and the Skate series, with skate company Etnies unveiling a new sneaker designed to cash in on the impending launch of Skate 2.

They're called the RVM Skate 2, and should be out in the US later this month at Zumiez stores, with an international release to follow. Not the most eye-catching pair of shoes you'll ever see, but then, as a collabo between a sneaker company and a video game publisher, they could have been worse.

<![CDATA[OK, Nike Have Gone Nintendo MAD]]> What is this? A mass act of adoration on the part of Nike's design team? Or some strange, off-key marketing exercise on the part of Nintendo? It's difficult to tell, but what is clear is that Nike are loving their Nintendo at the moment. First it was NES-themed Air Max classics. Then a whole range of Wii-inspired kicks. Now it's another NES-inspired shoe, this time the Air Max Terra. It's got a similar theme to the Classics - the subtle d-pad around the sole, the colour scheme - but it's not quite as refined. Indeed, it looks more like a Mega Drive 2 tribute than a NES one.

<![CDATA[Here Are Your Nintendo Wii Sneakers]]> Those tasteful Nike/Nintendo Air Max Classics from the other day? They're just the start. Word filters down from the street that Nintendo and Nike will be releasing an entire line of sneakers early next year, all of them inspired by the Wii. Here's some pics. You'll find that, like the NES kicks, things are still being kept subtle (with iconography kept to a minimum), but the jury's still out on whether these ones are quite so tasteful.NikeTalk [via KicksonFire]

<![CDATA[NES Air Max Sneakers Will Surprise You With Their Tastefulness]]> The same kind of kids who dig sneakers are often the same kind of kids who dig video games. Means that we end up seeing a lot of sneakers with a video game theme. Sadly, as exciting as the prospect of a union between games and sneakers sounds (at least to those of us who waste too much money on both games and athletic footwear), invariably we end up with something that makes us use the words "The Horror" in the headline. But not this time! Nike and Nintendo are to be applauded for these NES-themed Air Max Classics, which eschew gaudy colour schemes and obvious prints in favour of something a little more subtle.

<![CDATA[Super Mario World Golf Shoes Exist For Some Reason]]> We'll concede that for goomba stomping purposes, some cleated golf shoes would probably get you out of a bind in the Mushroom Kingdom now and then. But in the real world, these Super Mario World shoes, spied at Super Potato in Akihabara, seem to have limited use. They're certainly fancy and the white still gleams — almost everything in Super Potato has been well cared for — but if we were handed a pair of multi-colored Mario golf shoes, we'd probably politely decline (or sell them immediately on eBay).

<![CDATA[Gears of War the Skate Shoe]]> I'm a sucker for ugly game-themed shoes, but even I wouldn't pick these bad boys up. Featuring a blood-red COG symbol, these custom Globe skate shoes sell for $80.

GEARS OF WAR Globe has teamed up with Epic and their Gears of War video game, one of the best-selling combat video games of all time, to bring you a Special-Edition Co-op shoe based off of Globe's Fusion model. This one comes with a big pop of the Gears of War icon, inside and out.
