William Shatner has agreed to voice Captain Kirk for Bethesda Softworks' upcoming title Star Trek; Legacy. The 75-year-old bad acting icon said he heard Kirk was going to be in the game and got a little territorial.

Explaining his return, Shatner said: "I couldn't imagine someone else playing Captain Kirk, even in a video game, so I kind of got a little territorial." ...

"If it's a good game, keeping true to the characters the best they can and having an interesting story that branches, I think a game can bring a freshness to a franchise like Star Trek," hoped the 75-year-old star of Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.

Just so he says "You Klingon bastads... you... blew... itup!", I'll be happy.

What is organizers had to get a big-name Canadian celeb everyone respected. That celeb was busy, so they went with William Shatner.

The event's producer says Shatner was fingered from the beginning as Host, and he "will guarantee a fun, exciting, and memorable evening for everyone." That is, only if he sings "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds."

You can tell you're at the losing end of the home video game market when even Captain Kirk can't sell talking points like "It has a keyboard" or "It plays Gorf" to an armada of geeks. - Florian Eckhardt
