You can turn items off and generally what happens in the level happens in a sequence. The Ice climbers level is a typical advantage of this as it goes through a clear transition and reset cycle.
Plus you can always play on Final Destination which is a flat featureless level devoid of everything. In Brawl you can even create your own.
Fun fact: on the ice climbers level if you jump to the right height at the right time you can stay airborne off screen for the entire trip from the top of the mountain to the bottom. #fightinggames

Caucasian Install sounds so lame.
Ooooh. Maybe I can get one that says "Canadia Install" #fightinggames

Of course back then and today, lots of people get it in with Madden (and preferably back then with NFL 2Kx), the NBA games and numerous fighting genre titles.
I can actually recall a time in my life where a hustler could make more off of a video game than they could on a pool table. In some places, that might still be true.
My favorite hustle, however, is the has to be the racing games. By that, I mean when InitialD games are on a Cyracer with no Player Card adaptation. Even kiel, and usually involving drunk college students. (By this, I mean the Gameworks in Eaton Town Center, Columbus, Ohio during Football and Basketball seasons.)
Fun times. #fightinggames

They way I see it, I like to be underestimated, so that when I destroy my opponent, the shock the registers with the doubters is that much greater. #fightinggames

I wonder, do people gamble on MMO arena teams? I've never heard about it, yet its the same deal. The only difference is that mmos are more community centric. You get a lotta folks to work together towards a common goal. The fighter circuit is filled with shit talking egomaniacs hell bent on proving they have the bigger penis in their niche stomping ground. Its trite and unbecoming behavior. I think all gambling is. (and no I'm not some bible thumping freak. religion is just as bad to me) Anyway, rant off. Well written article. #fightinggames

I am sorely disappointed by the lack of toilet humor and the overabundance of insightful remarks on the subtleties of mankind's competitive nature. #fightinggames

So to all the readers, which game would you feel confident to put up the money? Mines, Super Smash Bros, Brawl and Metal Gear Solid 4. #fightinggames

@GhostTheSaint: A few years back we used to have money matches in Smash Brothers Melee all the time. The matches were always so much more intense. I remember one time some people from out of state dropped by and I ended up facing my Marth off against one of the best Gannondorf players in the world (yes, dorf is far from top tier, but the kid was accomplished with him and well known in the online community.) By the end of the match I was shaking all over and needed to step out for a moment to calm my nerves. It was undeniably the most consuming gaming experience of my life.
As for what games I would put money on now? Melee for old time's sake, CoD4, Starsiege: Tribes, and Tekken Tag. I'd feel pretty confident about betting on those games other than Tekken. Yes, most of them are super old, but they're the games that I've liked enough to attempt to play on a higher than casual level. Oh, and Diablo 2 pre-1.09 USEast dueling... The only person on the server who was beat my amazon was ShabroniX (no exageration, yes I did use hacked/duped stuff, but most people did.) I'll hate Blizzard forever for deleting the Zephyr Bow ; ; #fightinggames

I'd rather just play with other people who are naturally into the game than those who need an extra push. If someone wants to go afk or just dick around, that's fine, but don't do it in the middle of any twitch-based games. #fightinggames

@spannu: That's interesting, because I tend to take the opposite approach: when I'm at school or work I give it my all--when I'm doing something for recreation, I couldn't care less who wins or loses, as long as I'm having fun.
It's fun to be competitive sometimes, especially when you're playing against someone of a similar skill level--that close match can keep you on the edge of your seat. But when I'm stressing out over the results of a match, feeling inadequate and telling myself I need to practice for hours, that's when I know I've crossed a line.
Of course, this is just me. Everyone gets their giggles from different things. If you can handle the heat, more power to you. :) #fightinggames

He can be great in the hands of someone who plays Gen exclusively, but there's no denying he's one of the weakest characters in SFIV. #fightinggames

In any case, as soon as we get tournament-level Rose players to start making showings, people will see her in a new light, just like how people saw Scott Bender after his Sakura matches against Gootecks and his now legendary Alex Valle beatdown, same with Justin Wong using a very handy Fei Long, and Sanford Kelly having an aggressive rushdown Cammy (that beat Daigo's Ryu in casuals at Season's Beatings IV). People are just now starting to make names for themselves while maining the weaker console characters, so Claw and Elf are next, I suppose. #fightinggames
