@Belabras ate my dingo!: Here here! Necro would be a joy in the world of SF IV. Besides, Dhalsim could use competition in the stretchy arms department.
I'm a huge Elena player, but I'll be realistic. I know people don't care for her, for whatever idiotic reason. So, at least give me Alex or Dudley.
Ignore SF3 again, and it's just a slap in the face to all the hardcore SF fans out there. It's like saying "We don't care about you guys that actually stuck with the series, even after it became significantly less popular - we just want to cash the fucking check! Look everyone! It's Street Fighter II in 3D!"
@the7k: Wasn't IV set chronologically before III? That might be ignoring, but it's also entirely fair to say the III characters would have no place in IV if that's true.
Now if V is set after III then this would be a reasonable complaint.
@houser: Play as Chun Li in Street Fighter IV's Single Player mode, and watch her opening video.
Did you see Yun and Yang, obviously old enough that they should be fighting in here? Did you realize that Yun and Yang are the youngest characters from SF3, and that if they are old enough, everyone from SF3 is old enough?
And seriously - when has Capcom given a shit about chronology? How the hell is Sakura still looking like a teenager?
@Rachel Fogg: what ueziel said, plus the fact that the artwork is a personal preferece. i thought it looked gorgeous. sprites are cool, but what's wrong with just embracing something new for a change?
@Rachel Fogg: So I play this game pretty competitively. Honestly I feel it's a pretty balanced game compared to it's counter parts. Sagat isn't impossible to beat, unlike in blazblue you have Arakune being S+ tier. Balance is hard to do.Also Ryu is 2nd best in the game so I have no idea why you said he's gimp. I'm a big fan of the game a looking forward to it for better or worse.
@Rachel Fogg: please no alpha.. that game was kinda fun.. but the mechanics were too.. i dunno i guess the word im looking for is "casual" (man do i hate that words use when talking about gaming.. but im drawing a blank).
as for your 2nd request.. I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE! lol.. where are akiman, nishimura kinu, or srk/bengus? those guys (and gal) were definitely the definitive sf artists.. i know akiman is a freelance artist.. and i dont see why he wouldnt be down with working on sf more.
and as for the third point, i kinda go back to point 2. i think in the end theres no problem with 2.5D if your art design is top notch. tatsunoko vs capcom looks beautiful, and imagine if it was done with 360/ps3 graphics. i mean, naruto ult ninja storm on ps3 looks like a cartoon at times.. and i think street fighter IV could have loooked loads better with the right design. although im totally in love with the sprites in blaz.. i dont know why so many hated on kof XII but i was blow away by that games sprites as well. so im kinda partial to that comment because i am interested in seeing what capcom could do to 1up sf III's amazing sprites.
I liked alpha, me and my brother did...we weren't for this iteration so much. It was like 3rd strike but not....BAH! I thought it was boring as hell to say the least...my brother got all the characters unlocked on the 2nd day of purchase and on the 3rd day got rid of it.
The rest is opinions, but to me and him, Sagat was hella broken. I can't really get into it because he's more of a fighting game aficionado then me. I take his word for it, (not that you guys aren't trustworthy/know your stuff, I haven't seen you guys play so I'm siding with my big bro!!) my brother is no scrub (he doesn't play like in toureys and stuff at least not anymore) and me, well I suck at fighting games. LOL! (button masher FTL!)
As for the art, it was horrible, ghastly...the new characters were bland looking. I HATED the art, I'll take Udon (not a diss to Udon, they're over-saturated but I'll take them) at this point over that guy, I rank him in Falcoon's department.
The 3D was just...it just....bah, it was pretty to a fault, just that there was something kinda. Ugly. Capcom knew that, they were going for new style which I appreciate but man, some smoother textures would've been grand. 2.5D is tricky, TvC looks about right. SFIV was definitely a trial run for Capcom.
But after Blazblue and the lusciousness of III strike. It's not my fault that I want to see that again, they should've half assed it like KOFXII (ducks from the tomatoes) j/k.
That's it, go easy on me boys, I don't know this fighting game stuff well...it took me 10 years to learn how to hadouken. ;-;.
That's why I want a Rival Schools reboot, I was great in that game.
@Rachel Fogg:
1- They did all they could in the Alpha series. 30+ characters, several "isms", and a world tour mode. It's done. You want to play Alpha go buy it. People still play it.
2- I do agree. In my opinion I liked 3rd Strikes artist but if they could get Alvin Lee that would be awesome.
3- I'd love 2D sprites as well, but SF4 3D is far from ugly, ugly is SF-EX.
4- They are not gimped. The first SF4 world champion won with Ryu. Sagat is not broken. Top 7 finalists of Evo World players did not use Sagat. At All. And if you're speaking generally then Chun-Li is the dominating force in 3rd Strike.
@taiki: While I don't believe Ryu is gimped, saying "Uh, Daigo won with him" isn't exactly a great way of refuting that. I imagine Daigo could win with just about anybody if he figured them out.
Fighting Jack Churchill went through a battle in World War II with nothing more than a bow, a bunch of arrows and a massive sword. That doesn't necessarily mean the rest of us could ever come close to doing the same.
@Rachel Fogg: For me, SF2 is where it's at. I cut my teeth on that one when I was a kid and have been playing it ever since. And, it is the essence of the series is for me and what I want every Street Fighter to be.
But yeah. The art style in four. eeeeh. I don't mind the 3d, but I do mind the hulking disgusting muscle-chafing-on-muscle character design. What a let down. Quite superficial, but that's what gets me more than anything about this iteration (though it's not the only thing). Everyone looks frigging gross.
@Bialia: The art style really got to me. Every time I see Ryu, I think that someone just forgot to color The Incredible Hulk.
Not sure I agree about SF2 being "Where it's at." Their constant re-re-re-release of Street Fighter II "Now with new colors!" back then is what made me turn to SNK. I personally felt that Street Fighter Alpha was a great step forward. Street Fighter III was an incredible step forward. Street Fighter IV... is a huge step back. Will we have to wait another decade for it to be as good as it once was?
Fans get their hopes up so 90% of them can be disappointed by what Capcom actually releases. People who hate SFIV talk about how it differs from their favorite Street Fighter game. People who love SFIV talk about SFIV.
In the follow-up thread - internet drama rage. Amid the chaos, a fine line separates the trolls and the internet superheroes, who battle it out in an epic struggle.
I like the sound of the new characters they're going to add but SF4 is still an abomination in my eyes. No more SF unless it's 2D, I'm tired of seeing Ryu with calfs that look like he's carrying small children on his legs.
@wtf_G: Well each to their own opinion. While I can praise it for bringing back fighting games I just hate the mechanics of the game, especially in comparison to Third Strike. Call me a purist but I don't think the series should have ever went 3D, though I must say they did get the look right.
No more Street Fighter unless they go back to the Street Fighter Turbo 2 combo system. All of these "systems" are what ruined fighters in the first place. Give me comboing options and regular special moves and I'll be happy.
All of this parry,ex move, focus attack nonsense is just too much stuff to learn and it takes away from what made the series so good in the first place.
@Rompehamster: i know all of that already, and quite honestly you need to be well rounded in order to be able to compete with other players. the thing is, there was a certain simplistic beauty about the original street fighter 2 games that made them so great in the first place. there was depth but it was much more of a rock, paper, scissors match of special moves and some clever regular attacks rather than a combination of skills using all kinds of different "systems" to counteract an opponent.
all im saying is that you don't need to have all of these different gameplay mechanics in order to have depth and satisfy all the hardcore types.
@IceColdEskimo: No more Shotoclones please. Also, leave Charlie alone(or make him a secret/what if? character). Let one dead person stay dead so I can still have some respect for SF's cannon/storyline. I do approve of Ibuki and Elena though.
@Rampzie: That's true and that annoyed me a little bit. Really if Charlie did come back I'd complain a bit then totally want to play as him. Still rather them be like a ghost/what if? character though. Nightmare Geese from KOF:MI2 IMO was the best way to bring a character back from the dead.
Also, Dudley should totally be in the SFV. IMO he's a much better character to fill the boxer spot.
@postcards: Same here. Why didn't they just put him there out of fan service rather than include him in the story line? But then again the writers of that mess wouldn't know a good story if they were given the script to Lord of the Rings...
Well your prayers might be answered, apparently they're adding him along with Makoto and Ibuki.
Please bring back T. Hawk and Dee Jay for sure, Q would be cool too (maybe give him a back story), Adon would rock, Karin as they already have Sakura, Haggar from Final Fight (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE), Alex would be a nice addition too.
there have been rumors going around of a Street Fighter 4 Dash (Championship Edition) with the inclusion of:
SF II: Dee Jay and T.Hawk
SF A2: Adon, Guy and Cody
SF III: Dudley (yay!), Makoto, and Ibuki
oh and 2 new characters...
so 10 characters in all,
but these are only rumors.
@ShadowOdin of dubious snowiness: Imagine that in 15 years we will see the hyper realistic remake "Super Street Fighter IV Turbo Hyper Mega Mix Turbo Alpha EX HD Motherfucking Real Yo 129381928193813p Resolution in Yo Face Special Edition" on the future versions of Live and PSN. :D

1- Go back to Alpha.
2-Change the artist...please. Just...please.
3- Learn from Blazblue....lush 2D sprites over ugly ass 3D renders.
4-Stop gimping favourite characters...(Chun Li and Ryu....my god. And Sagat was completely broken.)
5-Balance, please balance.
That's it, feel free to disagree with me anyone...it's just me and my brothers opinions on the matter.
EDIT-Wait, scratch everything I said, Capcom, give me a Rival Schools/Project Justice 3 and you can do whatever you want. Just give me that!

- Character specific backgrounds (I loved when each of them had a "home", this isn't Mortal Kombat)
- Get rid of Seth (what a boring character for christsakes)
- Add characters from SFIII (Ibuki, Alex, Elena, Makoto, a lot of them would be awesome)
- Add T. Hawk and Dee Jay (they DO have fans and I'm one of them)
- New soundtrack (from the SFIII composers)
- A completely new outfit for Sakura, she isn't a highschool girl anymore.
