The problem with interjecting a video game between two previously released titles is we can pretty much assume the new title ends with a total memory wipe. Unless Ubisoft decides to release a new version of Warrior Within with references to Forgotten Sands, that'll probably be the case. We can't have the Prince simply deciding not to use the natural powers he'll be using in Forgotten Sands, can we?

After the events in The Sands of Time, the Prince goes to visit his brother's kingdom, only to find it besieged by the forces of evil. Using the powers of the Sands to save the kingdom from annihilation kicks off an adventure in which the Prince will learn what Spider-Man already knows; with great power comes great responsibility.

Expect epic moments, tons of acrobatics, and refined combat, all rendered lovingly in the Anvil game engine.

The game is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and DS, with the last three featuring a different gaming experience than the more powerful platforms. Expect more details on what that means as we inch closer to the game's May 2010 release.

Be sure to check out the game's reveal trailer, which premeired this weekend during the Spike TV VGA Awards.

<![CDATA[Square Enix Makes Kane & Lynch 2 Official]]> After trademarks and teases and rumors of naked grizzled men, Square Enix finally announces Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, with developer IO Interactive taking inspiration from documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era.

That last bit certainly explains the teaser video that McWhertor posted awhile back, featuring the two criminals running through a Chinese restaurant pursued by gunman and an attack dog, caught on what looks like a grainy surveillance camera. IO Interactive is looking to "deliver a fresh perspective to the words 'intensity' and 'realism' in video games," and if that teaser was less tease, more gameplay, then they might just be on to something.

"Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days," said Niels Jorgensen, general manager of IO Interactive. "A special thanks to gamers worldwide for their feedback. They are certainly in for a shock as we, with immense pride, welcome back our two dear, violent and somewhat unfortunate friends."

Dog Days will feature the world's most dysfunctional couple as they journey through the seedy Shanghai underworld. The original teaser vid plus the new one below are now up at http://www.kaneandlynch.com, with screenshots listed as coming soon. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is slated for a 2010 release on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 under the Eidos label.

<![CDATA[S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Oozes Atmosphere]]> Developer GSC Game World excelled at crafting a heavy, tense atmosphere in its previous games, and it looks like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat with follow suit.

Where S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky was a prequel, Call of Pripyat is a sequel to the original Shadow of Chernobyl, taking place after the events in the original game, in case you didn't know what sequel meant. It features "a complete set of new locations," so those of you worried that the set may be less than complete can rest easy. It also features those guys in the trailer, which could be considered either a good thing or a very bad thing.

<![CDATA[Harvest Moon Shines On In 'Welcome to the Wind Bazaar']]> Another one? It seems like barely a week since HM: Island of Happiness hit the shelves, but Marvelous Interactive are bringing out another dose of the only socially-acceptable form of hardcore farming fun: Harvest Moon: Welcome to the Wind Bazaar.

The official website went live today with.. not that much info. Plenty of Tokyo Games Show banners, though, so we presumably get some more solid facts when that kicks off next month.

Famitsu has a couple of screens and some more details - in Japanese.

<![CDATA[The Darkness Getting A Sequel It Shouldn't Have]]> No, please don't. Starbreeze Studios' The Darkness might not have set the sales charts ablaze, but it did contain two of the most emotionally charged moments I've ever experienced in a video game, with one quietly making the impact of the other that much more profound. It's the sort of game that would only be diluted by a sequel, but it looks like they're going to do it anyway. It's rumor until it's official, but at the New York Comic Con's Top Cow panel, said sequel was all but announced.

"We can't say DARKNESS and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, DARKNESS. Wink. Sequel."
This can only end in tears, and not the good kind you get when a powerful story draws them from their ducts like a fiddler draws rats. Ooo, maybe if the sequel lets you shoot rats from your eyes? Cool, but doubtful. I just know that any attempt to recapture such magic moments will feel like just that - attempts. Please prove me wrong.

<![CDATA[Professor Layton Sequel Coming Says Game Manual]]> According to the game manual for Professor Layton and the Curious Village, the second game in the trilogy should be hitting US shores soon. Game Life is reporting that like it's Japanese Counterpart, the US version of Professor Layton contains a password entry screen that can only be unlocked by playing the game's sequel. The game manual states that the secret password "will be revealed in the sequel."

Of course we have certainly been promised games before that never materialized, but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for this one. I've played a little bit of the Japanese version and was absolutely enthralled until I couldn't get any further due to my ignorance of the language. As soon as I can finish all this writing today you can bet I'll be diving into the US version and the prospect of a sequel leaves me dancing a mad jig.

<![CDATA[No Gears Sequel at E3]]> Unhappy campers gather around the campfire and hear about how there will be no announcement of a new Gears of War game at E3.

"We are not announcing a sequel to Gears of War at E3 this year. Did you see the update we just did for Gears of War last week? We're still working on the first one," said Epic's Mark Rein:

Which means we a) Have to hold out for the next update, or b) Wait to hear details on the Gears movie that is supposed to come out to get our Gears fix. Personally, I don't even need a sequel to the first because I'm so retarded I can't kill RAAM on casual. STOP TELLING ME TO SERVE THE QUEEN! I AM THE QUEEN!

<![CDATA[Games Without Equals or Sequels]]> With the absolute glut of video games sequels showing no sign of ending any time soon, I often think back to games gone by that haven't received the number 2 treatment. Kyle Ackerman over at Games.net has compiled a list he calls "The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games," and there's hardly a game on there that I haven't pined for an update to. Legend of Dragoon. Planescape: Torment. Advent Rising (possibly just me.)

Hit the link and read through his list...or just skim the titles and imagine adding a 2 to the end of any one of those games, enjoying the pleasant little shivers the thoughts bring. Then come back here and discuss what games you'd like to see a follow up to - or just throw insults at each other. The power is in your hands.

<![CDATA[More Brain Age in Europe]]>
Europe is set to get another round of brain traing games from that light-hearted doctor with More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain?

New exercises will keep everyone in Europe throwing DS's against the wall and pressing the start button frantically as they see their age of their brain falling futher and further away from them. New tests include calculating correct change as well as trying to follow sheet music by playing the piano.

More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima: How Old is Your Brain will launch in Europe on 29th June 2007.

PRESS RELEASE
The Multi Million Selling Brain Training Series Continues With All New Exercises!

More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? launches in Europe on Nintendo DS

16th May 2007. Training your brain became a worldwide activity following the launch of Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? in Europe last summer. This continued into 2007 and now over 10 million people globally are currently including it in their daily lives. But, as with any exercise, continual training is required to help stay active and now you can keep on training your brain with the second instalment in the Brain Training franchise, More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? Featuring all new exercises and DS Brain Age Checks, this is set to challenge even the most trained brains as it launches across Europe on 29th June 2007.

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? has been enjoyed by people of all ages, including those who would not normally be associated with video games. Inspired by the research of renowned Japanese neuroscientist Dr Kawashima, this original title and the soon to launch More Brain Training are designed to help stimulate your brain and challenge memory, math and perception skills. Users can train their brain by exercising for just a few minutes each day, whether on the go or when relaxing.

More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? uses the same format as its predecessor. Held like a book, you are invited to use the unique and intuitive touch screen and microphone features of the Nintendo DS as you take 5 - 10 minutes a day to help your brain stay active with challenging new exercises. All exercises contained in the software are based on easy to execute mathematical, cognitive and language-based tasks. The DS Brain Age Check measures the speed and accuracy with which you perform simple tasks to establish your DS Brain Age. Once this is established you will be set a regime to help stimulate your brain. The DS Brain Age Check allows you to see your progress on the inbuilt calendar.

The DS Brain Age Checks take on a new form in this title as you're tested on three randomly selected exercises including old school classic Rock, Paper, Scissors which asks you to name the position to either win or lose against the object shown, Memorising 5x5 which sees you remembering the position of numbers on screen and Speedy Symbols which challenges your memory of symbols associated with specific numbers.

More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? features fun new training exercises including Correct Change which challenges you on an everyday day task - to work out the right amount of money to hand back after a transaction as quickly as possible, Missing Symbols, a twist on the classic '20 calculations' test, and Masterpiece Recital which invites you to follow a music sheet shown on one screen and touch the corresponding piano keys on the touch screen. As your daily training continues, additional new exercises are unlocked, opening up a variety of new activities with varying levels of difficulty.

With More Brain Training you can also play with your family and friends. Using a single game card, two to sixteen players can participate in four different exercises together. Challenge each other to Word Scramble, Memorise 5x5 or Correct Change to see who reigns in the worlds of math, memory and perception. Three to sixteen players can also compete in a picture quiz to test each others artistic skills, where players score the other drawings to find a winner.

Making a welcome return to this new title is the popular numbers game, sudoku. Featuring three difficulty levels from Basic to Intermediate to Advanced, there are over a hundred puzzles to keep you occupied!

More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? launches across Europe on 29th June 2007 at the estimated retail price of around 30 ( 19.99 in the UK).

<![CDATA[Pachter Changes Mind; Bully Is A Hit]]>

Wedbush-Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter, was recently quoted as saying he didn't believe that Rockstar Games' controversial Bully was selling as well as expected and that based on numbers, there would be no chance for a sequel.

It takes a big man to admit he's wrong, and Pachter has done just that. Based on Bully's strong sales numbers over the holiday season, Pachter has reversed his decision and issued a formal apology to Take Two.

I have been consistently wrong about this title. I thought it would be stupid, and it was fun; I thought it would get poor reviews, and it got solid 90s; and I thought it would bomb, while it now appears to be a million unit seller. As a result, I did not expect a sequel, while now I have to acknowledge that a sequel is a possibility. I never hesitate to take credit when I'm right, and I never hide from my mistakes.

Well done Mr. Pachter, you're a real mensch.

<![CDATA[More Red Steel Comin' Your Way?]]> Despite a generally cool reception by critics, Ubisoft's Red Steel sold a ton. Bested only by Nintendo's own Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the game was a certified hit for the Wii.

It should come as no surprise that Ubisoft is planning a sequel (or spin-off) as nearly confirmed by the company's official site. In a job posting for a Paris-based gamed designer, Ubisoft seeks a candidate to aid in the "continuation of Red Steel". The posting also seems to indicate interest in finding an applicant with online experience, indicating that the Red Steel sequel will feature online play.

Expect a formal announcement soon.

<![CDATA[Third God of War Almost-Sorta Confirmed]]>

GameDaily is reporting on the blog of David Jaffe, creative director of Sony Santa Monica and head man on God of War:

As [GoW 2 director] Cory [Barlog] and I have said to the press, this is the second act of a bigger story. And when you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series. But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the GOD OF WAR trilogy. You never know, but that's me just putting it out there.

Jaffe's blog is a ramblin' sort of blog, as blogs go, but he has the occasional game news and/or post about the socks of a three-year-old girl. Which, I suppose, is mighty 'd'awwww' adorable. I also learned he was lead design on a bunch of Twisted Metal games (all of 'em?) which explains the crispy goodness of God of War.

<![CDATA[Dreamfall Sequel Already Underway]]> dreamfall.jpgWe don't understand Norway's panoply of bork bork phonemes, so we can't confirm this directly, but according to Evil Avatar, Norwegian website IT-Avisen has an interview with Ragnar Tornquist in which he claims that the sequel to Dreamfall (and, by extension, The Longest Journey) is already in the works!

Excellent news, although we personally thought Dreamfall was a tad disappointing. Still, drooling adventure game nerds that we are, any new adventure game that isn't a pixel hunt through the game designer's anal-retentive inanity gets a big thumbs up.

<![CDATA[The Return of Bonk]]> bonkcircles.pngIt seems like old mascots are being pulled out, dusted off, given a quick spit polish, and being sent back to the front line. I thought nobody wanted to see "Rayman 4," but apparently there are over three people who are excited about his return. However, I feel I can say with confidence that there is not a huge longing for a mobile phone sequel to Bonk's Adventure for the TurboGrafx 16. And yet, it exists.

From the press release:

Evil King Drool is up to it again! The year is 10,000 B.C. and as Bonk the Caveman, it's your job to find and defeat Evil King Drool. Unfortunately, there are no weapons around, so you'll have to use your head — literally! "Bonk's Return" is a retelling of the original game "Bonk's Adventure," bringing all the gameplay and memorable characters from the classic game onto mobile. Developed by Two Tribes, "Bonk's Return" brings the headstrong caveman to mobile phones for the first time.

Wait, if it's a retelling of the first adventure, it's not really a return, is it?
