That box art for The Conduit was one of the most generic and horrible looking pieces of art I've seen. It made me think it was the early 90's all over again.
Box art so ugly and thoughtless it reminded me of the Sega that released Guardian Heroes on the Saturn... OK strike that, THAT was the worst box art ever (US version), The Conduit's was the second worst box art ever.
Might have something to do with the games poor sales, seeing as the Wii audience is the demographic of game buyers who are most likely to be influenced exclusively by box art when making their purchasing decisions.
Hmm which do i prefer...
sega tanking with an excellent underappreciated game and finally knowing what happened with my father.
Or sega tanking because they release their status freaken quo.
tough call guys, tough call.
Eh, I didn't buy Conduit. I'm already tired of FPS, and that's one genre that's much MUCH better handled on PC/PS3/360. Voice, online, dlc, etc etc etc.
I'd like to grow my Wii collection (I've got 6 games) but I need something unique. Something that wouldn't be as good on PS3 or 360, as I've yet to pick up the Wii version of any multiplatform game.
@Billkwando bought his tickets for Hyde's US tour: But sadly the truth hurts. If you give people who never appreciated the original a Shenmue game, they would just go back to playing Grand Theft Auto IV/Saints Row 2.
@Thorax: Heartless bastids......they don't care who killed their father, they just wanna give Nico's cousin a ride to the mall. Kids these days........
If SEGA shipped that many, they've at least sold that many to retailers. On the consumer level, we might see a different number.
Then there's used game sales, which would completely skew that kind of thing. If Gamestop initially received 20 copies, sold them all, but 10 were sold back, they won't ask for more new copies of the game, until those ran out. I doubt they would ask for more new copies, when they can recycle their own money.
Best of luck to all those at High Voltage, but The Conduit deserves to sell zero.
What a terribly awful game, i feel sick for buying it, and i refuse to return it because one copy in my possession saves someone else from the displeasure.
Uninspired bollocks from an indecisive artless big headed team.
@Accordion: Maybe you should get that ‘I feel sick for buying it’ for buying it thing seen to by a doctor.
I had something like that once happened with Red Steel, got in an exorcist, done job!
@Accordion: Hey, at least it was still better than Red Steel, right? And yet, Red Steel sold so much better. Think of the message you're sending the executives! Next time someone suggests an FPS for the Wii, the execs might ask them to turn it into a mini-golf game instead.
But, no, really, The Conduit suffered from mediocre level design. The second to last level was actually rather good, but one good level isn't enough to make an awesoem game. I just hope they get the chance to make a sequel... or that The Grinder doesn't suck. Yay business!
Why not just re release Shenmue for download content. Though I'm sure it won't solve any problems it sure would be nice to play it again. I miss my dreamcast and samba de amigo.
@Stix1313: They could give it a try as an xbox original download. The reason I say xbox and not PS3 is because that would be the cheapest option for them to see if it would sell well
Sega Needs to give Sonic tits, a whip and a gun. Tales needs to steal cars and f*ck up some pigs. Streets of Rage would become
Wii Fits of Rage. Golden Axe Sports...
Phantasy Star Cooking.... Er.. Anymore?
Imagine Ryo Hazuki?
Ulala Hentai?
I bought the special edition of The Conduit and everything. I really hope more people go get it, I really liked the whole experience.
I was hoping that Phantasy Star Zero would help them this year, but since that's been pushed to 2010, I'm glad I sprang for my import copy at ACEN. And I was under the impression that Phantasy Star Portable did well in Japan and, surprisingly, didn't do too bad in the US. Then again, PSPortable was released LAST quarter if memory serves me correct.
Very good for the Conduit. I'm glad. I'm not expecting it to be a megaseller, but it's good to see it selling well enough.
Hopefully it will keep on selling, even if it's slowly, but selling non the less.
The game was very fun, a bit generic and flawed in some aspects, but very fun, with excelent controls and i hope more games take note of how FPSs should work from now on.
Also, ANYONE expecting this game to sell in the millions the first week or even at all is dreaming. I will be gladly surprised if this game sells more than 2 millions world wide. And it's not even necesarily for this game to be a succes, but hey, that won't stop people from bashing! =D
I'm impressed by how well Virtua Tennis 2009 did. Given Sega's typical complete lack of marketing, I figured it wouldn't be discovered by new people and fans of the series would just stick with Virtua Tennis 3. Glad to see Sega's flagship titles still manage to sell. Would be nice if Sega understood that while new is good, more of the same is better, particularly when you're sitting atop a gold mine of IPs.
@MooglesInMyFace: Considering the amount of rage around the internet over their little fiasco over the past few days? It'd do at least as well as Valkyria Chronicles.
With marketing, it could be one of their best-selling PS3 games.
@Murtaug: It also came out in the US three years after its respective console was DEAD, with absolutely no marketing, during the crowded holiday rush. It was competing against Gears of War 2 and LittleBigPlanet.
In Japan, it got a massive marketing campaign, a movie tie-in, and featured famous voice talent. There's a difference between the ways it was approached in the two territories, and that's why it sold in one but not the other.
If they released Y3 on the PS3 with some actual MARKETING this time, it'd do just fine. Valkyria Chronicles did (almost 400k now), and it's a niche title in a sea of niche titles.
@G1bblets: I'm fully willing to skip on Bayonetta as protest. I'm tired of being fucked over by developers and publishers and expected to just come back and pay out my ass.
@Archaotic: I'm sure that if Bayonetta sells poorly they'll be all the more excited to risk a large marketing budget on a sequel that sold nothing in NA.
@shimage: That's their problem, not mine. Either they provide the games I want, or they get nothing from me. I have no loyalty to Sega, only to good games.
I've been so bloody ass raped this gen that I now lube for the inevitable. *coughSEcough*
I support the games, the good games, and since I only have a PS3, I'll support them but that doesn't mean I won't rally for the good games on the 360 or Wii.
If Sega actually decided to put out a quality game or SUPPORT a quality game then they'll see my money. If not then screw them. I'm not going to splurge money because of a company...dem days are over.
Yakuza is a good game franchise, I know for a fact that I would enjoy Y3 more then GTA4, SF4 and KoFXII....(especially KoFXII)

Yes and no.

Yeah, I am sure they will be right on that port.
