Not approved, it seems by Apple. Explains its innovative developer Yoot Saito:

When is that previously announced GABO for the iPhone going to be finished? I'm often asked that question. Honestly, that was finished a while back. The reason this wasn't made public was, well, Apple rejected the game. (lol) The reason for this was something like that the interaction with the Peking man was "unpleasant." (This isn't an official Japanese translation [of what Apple stated in English]).

The truth is that development staff, which had already considered development on Seaman DS before being contacted about this, reluctantly abandoned the [GABO] project.

If the time every comes again, this is something we'd all like to tackle again.

Apple can just shitcan iPhone games like that? Yes, yes it can. Hey, Yoot, you're lucky you even got a reason!

<![CDATA[New Seaman 2 Details]]> The Japanese official site for Seaman 2 has been seeing some recent updates in anticipation for the game's March release date (overseas, natch). Most notable have been the amusing clips of Japanese school girls and salarymen confronted with their first Seaman experience. The girls harass and abuse their pet, while the salaryman just tries to strike up a conversation. Neither are very skilled.

For those who have played the original game on the Dreamcast (or PC, PS2), Seaman 2 won't focus on the vivarium based, human faced sassmouth fish thing, but a tiny island bound apeman. He's made extra creepy by his still attached umbilical cord. Ick.

Videos are available right from the home page, as well as a not-so-handy Seaman 2 countdown clock. Let's hope Sega brings this one across the Pacific. Maybe.

<![CDATA[Seaman 2 Details Announced]]> sm2.jpg

\Sega has officially unveiled details for the sequel to Seaman, the Dreamcast game that had you caring for a half man, half fish pet of the same name.

In Seaman 2 you will be caring for a miniature Neanderthal man, which begs the question, why call it Seaman 2? The premise is that some Russian company produces 3,000 clones of the little sub-men from bones found in Peking, China. Hmm, maybe they should have called this game Peakingman.

Like in the original game you will be caring for you pet with the controller and a microphone, so the PS2 game will ship with a special microphone-embedded controller.

The game hits Japan next year, but no U.S. release date has been set. Thank God they didn't release this for the Wii.

<![CDATA[Seaman 2 News Coming on Friday?]]> It looks like that long-awaited Seaman sequel will be officially announced this week. A year ago, Yoot Saito was confirmed by Sega to be working on a sequel to his eccentric, bossy fish-man game. Then a year of silence followed.

No longer, though. According to 1UP, we'll be getting details on Seaman 2 come Friday, along with the platform and release date.

1UP speculates that it'll be for the DS or Wii, but various forumers have said the website confirms it for the PS2. The website's down right now, so that's just rumors. But if true, that's a shame. Frankly, I've always had shameful dreams about getting Yoot Saito's Seaman on my WII.

<![CDATA[The Common Themes of the Dreamcast]]>

Courtesy of Game Set Watch comes this amazing gamer's thesis: A List of Common Themes in Dream-Cast Land. It's wonderful: what are these themes, these elusive metaphors? What Freudian aspects cast surreally upon them? According to Dreamcast Junkyard, they are the following:

• San Francisco
• Michael Jackson
• Fish
• Bruce Lee knock-offs

And, of course, Bruce Lee in San Francisco beating Michael Jackson to death with nunchuku flounders!

<![CDATA[The Man Behind the Seaman Comes to the DS]]> According to 1up, Yoot Saito, the man behind the disturbing microphone-based mutant fish game Seaman, is working on a new game for the DS. In an interview locked behind the members-only section of Nintendo Europe, he reveals that his new game will use the microphone and network capabilities of the DS, but little beyond that.

<![CDATA[A Second Seaman Evolving?]]>

It certainly seems that way. A Gaming-Age poster pointed in Famitsu's direction, which more than hints at the development of a second Seaman game. Nintendogs beware, Sega's taking this fight underwater. I just don't know if I can convince my girlfriend that our next virtual pet is going to be a fish with a man's face.
