I see a lot of similar animations here, which bums me out. Looks like there's going to be some more recycling, once again. I hope that they've fixed the k-grinds to where they look realistic too, as they look so damn sloppy in Skate 2, where they actually looked proper in Skate 1. And I really hope that they've gotten rid of the nasty rasta beanies, and put some damn skullies in there. Yes, this all seems negative, but I play the ever loving shit out of Skate 2, and then some.
@d_r_e: I'm also bummed to see that they're still integrating downhill racing into Skate. Cougar Mountain in Skate 2 was the biggest waste of space, and I don't know anyone who enjoyed racing down it for shits and giggles. #skate
@d_r_e: 'Eyes, I have a cool "intro/filler" vignette for us to film in Skate3: ReverseFollowCam as we run from security, stop cam on edge of huge wall/drop as we leap off, zoom in to failed security. #skate
@d_r_e: dre do u have it for ps3? if so add me. i been playing off and on online trying to plat skate 2. the game never gets tiring at all.
another note, i hope the game looks as good as the screens suggest. i dont know why but from skate 1 to skate 2 the visuals took a bit of a dip. im excited that they are bumping it up for 3 #skate
@rainofwalrus: Thanks bud! And that's certainly a cool idea, we'll have to team up.
@zåɳzißårléɠёпȡ: Unfortunately I only own it on the Xbox 360. Sorry! I agree, the game never gets tiring at all. I still find new spots, which blows me away. There was something sleek and realistic looking with the graphics on Skate 1, and Skate 2 seemed to drop that a bit for more of a gritty / unpolished look.
Here's my part from the newest DP video, "I Hate DP": #skate
The only thing I actually enjoyed about Skate was the bail-scores. Well, that and the downhill skating.
The world just seemed a little to realistic, in the sense that over-the-top jumps were practicly impossible. It's why i refrained from buying the sequel, and i'll scout the terrain before buying this.
If anything has any positive info on the game world of part 3, feel free to enlighten me #skate
@D-K, a burning sensation: The Dam, Top of the E, and the Fun Track in Skate 2 would SURELY change you mind about over-the-top jumps...not to mention Hideki Tower #skate
@rainofwalrus: It seems like that's part of what this trailer was built around. The team aspect was the overarching theme but whenever they were skating lines and doing challenges, the waiting players were always involved in some kind of emote action and were present as spectators. It's really what gave the overarching theme meaning and the trailer itself, life. It will be disappointing if it isn't in the final game. #skate
The first thing I thought on seeing these was "now THIS is a great setting for a Diablo game!" Not that I had any problem with Diablo 3's shots... just that the darkened dungeons and dried-up looking surface areas reminded me of D1 & 2. #mytheon
Is it just an ego thing? Do they do it just to show off their guns? Maybe tear the sleeves off their robes, throw some Copenhagen in their lip, and then go around breaking islands while drinking a PBR?
And where does all that lava that is always flowing around in Hades go? Ever been to Hawaii and seen the lava there? It's constantly piling up and forming huge messy piles of lava rock when it cools. Is that part of the punishment of Hades, having to clean up dried lava rock? #mytheon
Am I the only person that get's really excited to play this game when I see screenies of a Galaxy class? I've even been practicing my "Picard" voice for it.
From the screenshots, is it safe to say that 50+% of the gameplay is set around space battles and exploration? It sure looks that way. I'm definitely going to try the game at some point upon release... if not Beta.
@Strangefellow: Cool. Yeah from the videos I've seen and the pictures released thus far, it seems like they're putting in a good amount of space combat/missions, etc. I'm all for land-based questing, but I really hope they can make an intriguing and enjoyable space-sim as well... #startrekonline
even so their would be no oxygen for the explosion to spread out into - certainly no fiery debris emanating from the center.
It would probably look more like a huge flash, with little to no debris in the aftermath - also the ship that shot it would probably be severely damaged by all the high speed projectiles shot out from the explosion. #startrekonline
@diagorus: What the image doesn't show you is the chroniton matrix of the destroyed ship was depolarized just before the impact. The ship was also using an experimental disrupter technology based on overcharging the cascade relay in the dilithium matrix. That would naturally result in a high-phase polaron flux and the large explosion.
Of course, I am assuming the biolithic converter array was working properly for the above analysis, but that seems pretty obvious. #startrekonline
@rainofwalrus: Doesent everyone know that there is NO O2 in Space... And Fire needs O2 to... BE ITSELF... Therefore, No O2 = No Explosion #startrekonline
@rainofwalrus: Well, I wasn't lending credence to his entire analysis, just the fact that the explosion would not look like it does in the picture. However, in his attempt at explaining how he believes the explosion would look, he does make some valid points. Space is a vacuum and won't support a fireball for long as the ship-borne gases will be expended as fuel very quickly and are not in enough supply to sustain fire. In order to destroy a ship so utterly (as pictured minus the excessive fire), there would have to be a lot of energy involved. The delivery system of the explosion would be rather pertinent in any discussion of energy dissipation, but without that knowledge we can make some basic conclusions.
A massive amount of energy is delivered to a mass. Without a medium of propagation (for instance, our atmosphere), a lot of the simple mechanics of an 'explosion' are very different than what one automatically assumes will happen. For instance, objects that are flung outward from the propagation point do not slow with distance from said point (reliant of gravitational forces and impact to change velocity). Thermal energy that had been transferred to the matter involved would only be lost through radiation and that would be displayed by light emission. The term "white hot" comes to mind, like with a light bulb filament. Except, consider energies orders of magnitude greater, metals reaching evaporation, etc. I would be hard pressed to not imagine a flash occurring, as diagorus predicted.
Anyway, why do you feel he needs to prove credentials for there to be any credibility in his explanation? The burden of proof is on you, in my opinion, if you feel like attacking his idea. Instead, you scoffed and wrote him off without considering his points. Critical thinking needs to be applied here imo. #startrekonline
@Senpuu: you do realise that we live in a closed system (earth) and in this closed system strange phenomenon defy all logic and baffle our greatest minds. these phenomenon often break every rule in physics.
we have very little experience with the sheer variables accouted for in vacuum space.
in fact, with every NASA launch something new about space is learned... including weather. #startrekonline
@rainofwalrus: I... think I am done with this back and forth. You've pretty much just told me that you have neither the capability or the desire to speak on this topic. Good luck with whatever. #startrekonline
@Senpuu: really? pulling your chute a bit early are you? I know we havent found explosive environments in space yet. That doesn't mean they don't exist somehwere out there where spaceships will explode exactly like they do in films/games. It's improbable, but not impossible. But it was wise to pull your chute. #startrekonline
@rainofwalrus: You made me pull the cord the second you said (and I'm paraphrasing here), "I'd rather throw a shroud of mystique over the topic than try to understand it." #startrekonline
@Senpuu: understand what exactly? that you have your facts mixed up.
in the most recent of studies we've nearly confirmed that there is indeed hydrogen in far off regions of space! It's quite possible there's oxygen too.
@rainofwalrus: The mechanics of the explosion. You kind of did a blanket dismissal of the argument diagorus presented by saying that no two explosions are identical. But his point was that the picture was an example of what an explosion would not look like in space. Well, sure, you could assume any number of things, but he was specific enough: in space. The *vast* majority of space is near-perfect vacuum. I could add qualifiers to every statement I make like, "...to the best of humanity's collective understanding," or, "...in the near-perfect vacuum of space," but that becomes tiresome quite quickly.
I recognize there are unknowns, but I like to account for the knowns and get a good approximation rather than turn a blind eye. Yes, there is practically zero chance that two explosions will be identical, but that doesn't mean that was can't find common ground between all explosions. Then you go from there. diagorus applied some basic physics to the situation and made a stab at what might happen. You didn't evaluate it though, but dismissed it with the unknown. Pick apart his points, counter-argue, something.
Anyway, I'm guilty of being over-critical, but reading and replying on the internet tends to make me so. Sometimes I hate this medium. #startrekonline
someone claims it as FACT that a space explosion couldn't possibly look like that. EVER.
it's this very FACT that needs to be established. I neednt do anything further.
you championed the popular claim, also stating that it is a FACT that there is no O2 is space. ANYWHERE.
you must back this claim. I never declared any facts I need to back, only asked--rather snarkily--for credentials on the subject.
I know it is unlikely that we'll ever find atmospheric enirons capable of mimicking the very BOOM we see in cinema and games... but I'm smart enough not to throw the word FACT around. Especially when we're talking deep space FACTS. #startrekonline
Here's to more chubby chasers in the development community.
Speaking of which, where are all the fat people in video games? I'm not talking the random boss encounter, but other more common characters. Besides Fat Princess, I can't think of another game that has fat characters in it. #borderlands
Also, in the thread a dev stated that somewhere in the game theres a "Turtles all the way down" line from someone (sorry...) and that it was a Terry Pratchett reference. which is god-tier Awesome.
@(Zombie) Jölan: I noticed the Chuck Durden and thought the same. There was one other name that was along the same lines, but I can't remember it at all right now.
No I remember now, Bruce McClane! An obvious Die Hard reference. And of course Mad Mel....
@Lulzor: The "Turtles all the way down" line is graffitied on a building the first raider camp right outside of Fyrestone. If you approach the camp from the road, heading toward the big gate that blocks said road, it's the first building on the left as you enter the camp. #borderlands
There's this gun vending machine in NH that is placed across the road from the gun store and I was able to use it only once and it's not there anymore.
@Camann:
Okay, so Pratchett was referencing Stephen Hawkings.
this doesnt change the fact that SCole stated they were referencing TP and not SH. [gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com]
Then again, i could be wrong again.
Funnier things have happened. #borderlands
@Lulzor: You mistake my meaning. My point was that Pratchett was not the originator of the term. Like people reference Duke Nukem with the "gum" line when DN was referencing the movie "They Live!" If the game makers meant for it to reference Pratchett, then it references Pratchett. I'm just passing the credit all the way back.
I pointed this out to my friends last night, i found it funny and told them to come look at it but they couldnt hear me. We have bad headset issues with this game. Anyone else? #borderlands
@TheBigCheese_: I have noticed that sometimes my friends and I just can't hear each other at all. There is just silence. Which is a major issue when you're trying to work as a team and communicate.
Headsets work fine for Uncharted 2 though. #borderlands
@hot_heart: I find that sometimes, I can only hear one of the two people I play with but they can both hear me. Though the majority of times their voices sound like they're being sped up and i hear messages from about ten minutes ago.
It's not a problem with my headset because it swaps who has the problem from time to time. We all have the official ps3 headset and can talk fine in Resident Evil 5 and LittleBigPlanet.
Hope it gets fixed soon, that is if they have any plans to fix it or if it's even fixable. #borderlands
