Looks great - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Gearbox because I guess they really need this game to do well. I recently played the recent Brothers in Arms and while it wasn't the best game ever it was much better than some reviews and the general perception made it appear. That renewed my appreciation of Gearbox.
So aesthetically it's Crackdown meets Prince of Persia, only in sci-fi setting?
Not to be a jerk, but real original...
Actually I like this look, after trashing Gearbox in a series of previous Kotaku posts related to the change in look of Borderlands, I honestly think it's wonderful.
I wish more developers would take the approach of creating an aesthetically cohesive design that's less demanding on the hardware, rather than worrying about pushing polygons or using gee-whiz effects that don't really add anything to the game.
Mass Effect for example, while gorgeous, was glitchy and suffered from serious loading and texture draw-in issues that ultimately detracted more from the experience than it added.
I hope this will prevent Borderlands from a similar fate.
@-MasterDex-: Sure the faces may not be as cartoony, but the chick in the screenshot has very proportions and almost exactly the same "default" pose as the NXE avatars.
@BarbeQueQ: I'm of the same opinion. Cel-sahding is cel-shading, I can understand why they don't want to associate the game with the technique but it is what it is.
Still, it's a very appealing style of cel-shading.
@reality.exe -console: Yep, this could be just what this game needs. I saw some gameplay a while back (crap quality though) and it wasn't all that visually interesting. But I think this will do the trick.
@Ray West: Lol, it's like very other game that comes out reminds somebody of crackdown. Infamous, prototype, this, spiderman WoS. NOT ALL GAMES LOOK LIKE CRACKDOWN, DAMMIT!
Hey guys look it's Wolverine! It's been awhile since we've last seen this guy. Wouldn't it be great if they had movies and games and TV shows just about Wolverine?
Instead of focusing so much on those other mutants what they really need to do is pretend they don't exist and just make everyting about Wolverine. Too bad that will never happen.
@Aflack: feels sick to his stomach: Yeah, a real shame. It's too bad he's like, the least popular of all the X-Men. Dang Hugh Jackman ruined the character.

For me it's still cel-shading.

Man, if only you could invert the horizontal camera pan I would buy Afro Samurai in a heartbeat ... Instead I have to wait a year for the bargain bin.

That 3D screenshot thing was nice. This was the first time I've seen something like that.

The cover sold me, it's the most horrible one since the first issue.
