I bet there was someone in Swift's time that actually tried to eat a Baby and blamed him for it.

So, like I said, it's a gamer's "Modest Proposal" It was a satire that people were offended by only because they didn't get the irony seeping through every moment of the game.

No Bully, where boys kiss other boys?
No Mario, where a mad Italian does 'shrooms and kills turtles?
Clearly this was made by some left-wing journalist to make fun of the great values on which civilization was built.

A group of people can utilize a properly made game revealing how events or history felt first-hand, and having that group learn and study from that. That would be good for the gaming industry
...Or, the game can be utilized for entertainment and making money, which would be a rather difficult thing to do, considering that society is really picky when it comes to themes in video games. That would lead to controversy.
If only the companies chose the positive route, they really can avoid messes like this. It's not guaranteed, but it's way more likely to happen.
Another huge problem is how society is set up. The main goal of the media, politicians, etc. are to bring those who break the rules of general societal code to justice. It is rather touchy, but my point is that society is rather viscous and hard-edged. (At the same time, yes.)
