Hope this game is good.. I'll either try to rent it or get it cheap sometime. If TLR actually gets ported too then the PS3's JRPG lineup will at least be improved from poor beginnings.
And the horribly generic, B-tier RPGs from Namco Bandai just keep coming and coming.
Sorry Tales of Series, you're probably the absolute best example of everything that is wrong with JRPGs and Japanese videogames. Fox box quality character designs coupled with music that sounds like it was ripped right out of a Super Nintendo game is hardly appealing to anybody that actually has a shred of taste.
I'm sure all the Yuri/Yaoi/Furry fanatics will go nuts over this garbage just like they do with all the other 8 million games in this horrible series.
Man, I never thought I'd be saying this when I imported TOP back in 95 but godamn, this series flat out sucks. Bad.
@DontTouchMyDaughterYouFilthyGaijin...: Listen to you, spewing forth such venom over a serious of video games that you don't like. What is your problem? The Tales series never changed anyone's life, but if you want a solid game with fun combat and a pleasant storyline, you could do a lot worse.
You hate the series- we get it. The kicker is that you flat out state that everyone who disagrees with you is a delusional, socially inept loser.
You need to take your god damned meds. Such unwarranted, poisonous vitriol.
@MDX: Because there are a lot of great PS3 games that we enjoy, and we don't feel like shelling out for another conolse. I'll take Valkyria Chronicles first, and wait on the Vesperia port, thank you.
Really excited about Tales of Graces. Symphonia 2, for all of its myriad flaws, weaknesses and puzzling decisions, wasn't notably worse in combat than Vesperia, so they might actually make some neat advances this time around.
Between that, Arc Rise Fantasia and (hopefully) Crystal Bearers, this is firming up to be a great year for JRPGs on Wii so far. And it's only April, so another announcement is not out of the question, especially with Atlus entering the fray.
@CaptaiNeNN: I must be the only person who enjoyed Symphonia 2? It was far meatier fare than the usual Wii offerings (dumbed down Dragon Quest, etc). Maybe I gave the game more slack because I enjoyed the first Symphonia so much.
Symphonia 2 wasn't perfect by any stretch, but it was good clean fun.
Good business decision, as it seems that none of the supposed JRPG releases on either consoles are selling well state-side as of late, meaning Japanese sales are still a significant factor for HD JRPGs -- assuming they can get the consistent 150k-300k Tales zealots to jump in. This was an excellent release so it'd be tragic if sales end up being the same as Eternal Sonata.
If they make it completely full-voiced and add more events for Rita I may have to consider buying a router/DVD upscaler when it drops in price.
Meh, it looked kind of mediocre and I don't remember too many people raving about it when it came out for the 360. Maybe someday when it drops in price.
@Đipic: Considering RPG's have always been my favorite genre, I can't get too excited about them these days. I don't know if the offering has just been pathetic this gen, or I'm just starting to get tired of them. Oh well, maybe FFXIII will light a spark.
@Đipic: To be honest, this gen has been kinda weak when it comes to RPGs, at least on the consoles. The portables have been getting the most (and better) love in that regard.
@Đipic: I'm in the same boat as you- I've played some solid RPGs this gen, but am just not as into the genre as I used to be.
I actually attribute a lot of it to me not being a teenager anymore- I am really not into playing as a 15 year old protagonist. It's starting to make me feel a bit pathetic. Part of what I found so refreshing about Valkyria Chronicles was (aside from the brilliant gameplay) was that the main character was in his twenties, and a lot of the supporting cast were adults! Awesome!
Additionally, so many of the classic JRPGS feel like they came off an assembly line. Cookie cutter parts. I like to see some change, some real evolution. As much as I liked, say, Eternal Sonata, it just felt like a last gen RPG with a pretty skin.
For all their faults, the Final Fantasy games really do their part to push the genre along. I think it'll be great.
Yes yes, April Fools and all that. But if it's fur real...
Awesome. It's like every exclusive the 360 has that I'm jealous of ends up finding its way to the PS3 soon enough. Bioshock, now ToV - have we heard an official word on the multiplatform status of Dead Rising 2 yet? C'monnn Capcom.
Between ad PC and a PS3 you likely have the entire 360 library covered eventually. If you get a 360 controller you can use the control scheme of the 360 directly on your PC as well. The games are ussually 10$-20$ cheaper as well when ported. On the plus side the PC versions tend to be superior in every way except that they are ussually 6mo - 2 years after the hype.
@Chances: So you have fun waiting a year for a game to come out when it is already out for other system(s)? You have fun paying $60 for a game when you can go over to the xbox 360 section and get it for under $20? I find many .obvious lulz rebuttals in your statement...
NO EXCUSES SON YOU JUST GOT SLAMMED AND BUTT RAPED!
@Deus-Ex: ...This is going to be hard to process, but not everyone plays/judges games based on how fresh they are, or how many people on their friends lists are playing them.
Good. I'm of the mindset that good games should get released on as many systems as possible so everyone gets a chance to enjoy them. I liked Tales on my 360, PS3 owners enjoy.
@sascha23:Please, stop abusing the '$' like that. It's stupid, it underminds your point and Mr Period will slit your throat in your sleep for abusing it.
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: I find it especially weird when people use it in posts where their stance isn't that Microsoft is evil or something. I swear I've seen that, where the entire post is just a fairly neutral observation, except then they have to use the dollar sign, as if that's just the way you have to refer to Microsoft. Like it's fact that they're after the almighty dollar more than any other corporation.
@nworobes: When I think Microsoft I can't help but think, among other things, lots of money... the color green... multi-billion dollar corporation that buys it's way into new markets. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, M$ may be silly but it still seems appropriate.
y2julio, @c0mbobreaker: Go right on ahead, what do I care? I was just explaining my rationale for people, even those with a nuetral stance, who use "M$". I'm not about to get butthurt over a less than witty character switch, regardless of whether or not I think it's juvinille.
@y2julio: Really? Last I checked, Sony has been is deep shit, financially. Calling Sony "$ony" would be like calling Crysler "Cry$ler", it just doesn't make a whole lot of 'cents'.
Microsoft, on the other hand, has been called 'Micro$oft' for AGES. WAY before even the original Xbox hit. The only way I could ever see Microsoft getting into money trouble is if they were to decide to pay off the National Dept themselves.
