I don't know, it's just kind of stubbly... like it activates all the same instincts in someone that an encephalitic child would... like, they're a child, and big heads are supposed to activate that protective instincts in us, but it's still all weird.
aww, when I saw the headline in my news reader, I was hoping for an iPod touch SDA game that makes you look like a dancin' fool as you shake it around.
@Espiox: It's weird, but the 3rd gen and 4th gen have the same sized screen. Plus, the 'squatter' design means its less likely to get snapped in half like a toothpick. It's still waif-skinny front to back, but the somewhat 'dumpy' proportions make it seem less awesome.
That would be terrible and sega would be right to pull the ads.....IF it were true. This is 2008 and animal rights laws have been in place in hollowood to prevent such abuse for over 25 years. Now do the math on that one and realize that unless they are using some REALLY old apes in the spots that they have NOT been abused.
Unless the spot was filmed in some back alley with black market apes I don't see how there coudl be any truth to the rampant speculation on peta's part.
Also its such a tragedy that the apes are sent to zoos after their career is over. Yeah considering most apes are on the endangered list and putting them in zoos and getting them to mate is the perfect way to SAVE the species.
(Btw they make them retire after puberty because great apes are extremely strong and extermely aggressive. Once they reach maturity they can easily kill a grown man without breaking a sweat. Bet peta never mentions that part.)
As usual, PETA is over generalizing. While it is true that some chimpanzee's are trained this way, it is a pratise on the decline. Furthermore, anytime there is an animal on set for filming, the ASPCA is there as well.
@EmeraldDragon: it is on the decline, and i'm no fan of peta, however there is no way to train a chimpanzee and keep it in line without resorting to methods that are, basically, appalling. do a little research. it is pretty devastating to watch. the cbc has a great documentary on animals in show business- if you find it, it's a great place to start.
animal testing for medical gain is a far cry from using these animals for entertainment, and ultimately profit.
PETA seriously STFU. Considering the atrocities that rountinely occur around the world involving humans the fact that some chimps get slapped and shocked a bit is far down the list of shit to get your panties twisted for. Go throw some paint on some minks somewhere and keep your righteous attitude reserved for slack jawed Hollywood trogolydtes that need something to pose nude for.
I like animals. I do, I love animals, they're usually for more entertaining and nice to be around then your average person and yet, I fucking despise PeTA.
I hate them with a blood-curdling passion.
They have some totally skewed views on what constitutes animal abuse (read into the PeTA doctrine. They consider anyone who have pets to be terrible, immoral people) as well as being some of the biggest hypocrites I've ever had the misfortune to come across.
If you like animals, join some other group (like, say, the ASPCA). If you like the attention of saying you're an animal rights activist but don't actually give a shit about animals, are totally okay with violent terrorism, and love you some hardcore hypocrisy then join PeTA.
Keep in mind folks, these are the people who have said that the holocaust was "no big deal" compared to how many chickens are eaten a year.
First, they wholeheartedly support animal adoption, and even encourage adopting more than one if you can so that your companion animal will itself have companionship when you're not around.
Second, you have taken their remarks out of context with respect to chickens. The point was that, TO A CHICKEN, every single year is a holocaust. If you don't believe that, take a trip to your local slaughterhouse and see how employees wear earplugs to drown out the perpetual screaming of the innocent birds.
@topaz420: I read it. They don´t really "support" animal adoption. They said that in an "ideal" world people wouldn´t have animals in their houses, so they "prefer" people adopting animals than buying them from breeders or petshops. In other words, BS. They even bitch about cats peeing on little boxes, c´mon...
PETA's antics have given them such a bad name that they're currently taken about as seriously on animal rights as KFC is. It's completely counter-productive, and leads to people saying stupid bullshit like "I support animal testing!" in a knee-jerk reaction to them. All PETA does is preach to their choir while ostracizing the people they aim to educate.
It's important to know that there are people out there that are passionate about animal rights that want absolutely nothing to do with PETA. It's a shame that any other animal rights organization doesn't get half the attention as these hypocrites and psychopaths do.
@futurebiblehero: (And I'd like to clarify that I too support animal testing in the realm of medicinal research. I just don't support it for, say, Paris Hilton's new perfume).
@futurebiblehero:No, supporting animal testing is not a fucking knee-jerk reaction to them. In the same way that supporting nuclear power isn't a knee jerk reaction to global warming, no matter what the anti-science, anti-development pseudogreens try to spin.
I support animal testing, plain and simple. The lives of animals, are worth the the scientific advances afforded to us through animal experimentation. I don't have to justify or qualify that statement, I'm not even going to get on that slope.
@hahnchen: People like you aren't inclined to make knee-jerk reactions on the subject, yet you failed to read what I said a few lines later? That's rich.
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: Because they give cookies and thanks to people bringing awareness to abuse? Isn't that the opposite of a Nazi group?
I think it's just become popular to dislike green peace and PETA but that's kind of sad to say they only really try and make sure abuse of animals and eco friendliness is apart of life.
Aaaand, cue the PETA hate. Not that I agree with all of PETA's tactics, but I have an insane amount of admiration for people dedicating their lives to protection living beings that are unable to speak for themselves. This monkey thing is a lot like the treatment of greyhounds at race tracks. They race for a year or two, are kept in tiny cages, and when THEIR career is over, say, at the ripe old age of 3 or 4, owners starve them to death. Why? Because it's cheaper to get rid of them that way without having to pay to have them put to sleep, and hey, it saves them money on food. Sickening. Kudos to PETA and SEGA.

Summary 1) Their ideals are way too far by most standards (They consider owning pets cruel.)
Summary 2) They actually make things worse for animals by being so batshit crazy.
