Speaking of Saints Row, am I the only one that just cannot get into this franchise? I love GTA, but this just seems to be, I don't know, bland? I have the first one, and I tried to play it, but it seems kinda boring.
@Fatty Shcock: I'll take SR over GTA IV easily. Combat is much more fun and easier to control (therefore multiplayer is more fun) and it doesn't try to take itself as seriously. The character customization is a big plus as well.
GTA San Andreas is another story...I think the series seemed to peak there. GTA IV was a step back, in my opinion.
@darkos87: Right, it's just like DLC. You can get rid of it when you don't want it anymore, but if you're itching for it later, you can redownload it for free. Microsoft understands this much better than Apple.
@Kenny: First thing I saw this morning was opeth on kotaku. Too bad I didn't see the title, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up for rockband DLC. :(
@Kenny: I didn't know who Opeth were, so I looked them up, and there's one thing ruins listening to bands like Opeth for me. It's the whole girtty demon voice shit they do. The chorus/quieter parts are sung nicely and the guy has a good voice then he starts doing the scary voice again and I just can't listen anymore.
Question: Why do many bands like Opeth do that? Is is purely a convention of the genre the music falls under? Or is there some greater meaning to it?
The "Death-Grunt" aka "cookie monster vocals" first appeared during the 80's as a backlash to high pitched vocal styles asscoiated with many metal bands of the time, making many to wonder if they were in fact eunuchs.
@OkayOctane: I think the main reason why so many people dislike the whole cookie monster vocals/growling thing is that it seems like a cheap attempt at sounding "tough" and "scary".
There are of course plenty of bands out there that use death vocals for that exact purpose, and it's no coincidence that their fanbases tend to mostly consists of angsty teenagers who buy even their underwear at Hot Topic.
Opeth is (IMHO of course) one of the few bands who use growling to good effect. They don't use them in every song (one of their album features no growling at all), and if they do use them, they usually do it coupled with deep lyrics that express sadness, loss, desperation or anger.
It may take some time to get into it, but you won't be able to fully appreciate Opeth until you do, so it's worth it ;)
@OkayOctane:the growling just adds depth. and to be quite honest at least you can understand what the fuck he is saying, unlike MANY bands that attempt to do the same.
that said, the growling is not for all. but its a piece of the art that is Opeth. you have to understand the whole painting in a piece in order to connect to it. Opeth are masters of taking you on a journey with their music, much like an artists does with a blank canvas.
But yeah, brilliant news, one of the most surprising games I've ever played. I expected nothing and got a chainsaw wielding Hot Dog, how could I complain?
This PS3 owner will NOT be buying this DLC unless it offers some value this time. 7 bucks for 3 missions? Eat my nuts. 7 bucks for 10 missions... more likely.
It was a waste last time too. Essentially, with these two packs, they've charged me roughly the same amount as TLAD for GTA and I've gotten about 1/10th of the value.

'Bland' is not usually a word you hear used in conjunction with SR.
My buddy and I are co-oping through SR2 right now. I've beaten the whole game before, but didn't realize how much fun it is with a buddy.
