Wouldn't it be great if Sega would do us gamers a nice nod and put English Subtitles on the Japanese version already so the game could come here and be enjoyed the way it should be played with just the Japanese language voices?
Considering Yakuza 2 didn't have English voice acting at all (and Yakuza 3 has English speaking characters in the game already, so they had to have hired a FEW American VAs), they really could just bring it over with just JP voice acting. I'm praying this ends up happening.
@amake: Just a figure of speech. Just quoting his own words back to him. It works really well in public relations, and I just get into the habit of it.
Awesome tie-in for an awesome game. Now how about a US release? You don't even have to dub it! Just translate the text and send it over...I'll buy two copies...please...? ;_;
I never played the original, but I have Yakuza 2 and I just love it. The presentation, the sort of "Japan noir" storytelling, the abject silliness of some scenes, hell, the battle system...it just meshes really well. It's like Shenmue minus the random sailor searches.
I kinda agree on the subs part, but their localization haven't been that bad though it probably cost them a lot seeing how most gamers don't know what the Yakuza games are.
This is kinda why I hope they just translate it text-only and leave the voicing in Japanese. It's set in modern-day Japan, having the voices in Japanese makes sense in this case. It'd save Sega some money and make the required sales to crack a profit much, much less worrisome.
My love for my PS2 gets mentioned everytime there is a Sony article. My ENTIRE want for a PS3 is for the titles on the PS2 that i knew would be continued on the PS3, not Blu-Ray, connectivity, the GAMES. And the Yakuza series is one of the top 3 with FF not being counted for obvious reasons....
It's sad to see this series NA release hang in limbo, but honestly short of the PS3 install base being much higher, I'm not sure if anything we do here will convince Sega that the game has a chance to sell.
I loved Yakuza on the PS2. And although I keep forgetting that Yakuza2 has finally been released here in the west, I just made a note to go get a copy ASAP.
If Sega decides not to release Yakuza3 in North America, I will be pissed and dissapointed to say the least.
If KENZAN! gets released in the states, I will buy it, guaranteed. That's pretty much all I can say about this. I want the game, I think it looks fantastic. Sega's call though. I really wish in cases like this english subs/menu options were included in the original released games.
Currently (until Way of the Samurai 3 comes out in the US) there are no samurai/sword themed action/adventure games for the PS3. There were a ton on the PS and PS2 (Onimusha, etc) so I figure it's a market ready to be tapped. I don't see why SEGA doesn't at the least do a "bottom bidder" run for "Kenzan!" ...better than nothing.
If they follow the logic of Yak2, though, we'll probably see the translated version of "Kenzan!" get released in the west about 2 weeks after Way of the Samurai 3, when everyone's "samurai'ed out", it'll tank, and SEGA will just keep their Japanese shit in Japan...
dude this was the game that started to garner my interest in the Yakuza series... WTF Sega how about you dont release Sonic games in the US and ship Yakuza with subtitles sounds like a fair deal to me.

Though I don't actually like pork bone ramen that much.
01/20/09
Though I just ate and I'm full, so mayhap that has something to do with it.
01/20/09
That's because most non-Japanese people, like me, don't like Pork-Bone Ramen. Pork-bone ramen is thick, like yogurt.
Tokyo ramen and other varieties tend to be what Americans enjoy.
01/20/09
It is definitely not "thick like yogurt." It's thicker than what foreigners who've only had Sapporo Ichiban are used to, but "yogurt" is way off.
01/20/09
I can see how I was way off, though.

"You don't even have to dub it!"
I'd actually prefer that its not dubbed. Sub's are the way to go after the terrible Voice Acting in Yakuza.
