I think EA would be spot on with the timing. Why release the non licensed game around the same time as the main licensed game?
MMA titles have a hardcore user base. We don't get many of these games per year so when we do, we go get it day release. THQ always let the fans down, be it with the Smackdown games or with last years UFC which despite being a good game, didn't live up to the first trailer and had a huge lack of diversity.
By September fans will be fed up with UFC Undisputed 2010, even if it's a great title, the hardcore will have over played it and then EA offer up a nice alternative.
This will not get swallowed up by NHL, it has a different market. Just like how FIFA wouldn't get swallowed up by COD.
@eastx: It just seems to me that if I did something like that, as an artist, Id be taking a shitload of heat. Announcing a game before its ever even been officially announced.
@Altima NEO: Well a animations artist for halo reach posted 2 reach animations on his online portfolio and MS came down pretty hard on him, if this guy gives storyboards im sure something similar will happen
I pretty much got tired of Star Wars merchandise back when they were doing Phantom Menace, and I've been so far beyond burned out on fps for years now...
But when I played BF2 I just went "Wow! This is just like a Star Wars fight scene and it's AWESOME!" and got really hooked on it for a while. The last game was so good it made a jaded cynic like me into a giddy kid, so if there's a way to make more Battlefront, then by all means, let us have it! :D
I dunno. After that leaked footage earlier this year of the tech used to allow players to fly from the ground to the sky and then into space - all without loading screens...
...if the Battlefront III that ends up hitting store shelves does not include that, then I may pass. Sad to say that, but it's true.
Consider my wings locked in attack position! So many great memories of previous iterations. I'm guessing the earliest we could expect this would be in Q4 '10.
We have Battlefront games for the DS and PSP. From what I gather they were released during this generation of systems therefore they are current gen. They may not be on the platforms you like but they are there.
@Ursus-Veritas: like the fact he did casting for the game when Forces of Corruption was released nearly 3 years ago. We know there was a Battlefront in Development back then, and it was canned.
I'm surprised this guy's so... open about this. I wonder what the LucasArts respone is gonna be. Eitehr way, great news. I loved Battlefront 2 and never even got to play it online.
@Marios_shadow: Some of the LucasFilm and LucasArts writers were involved and George himself gave his blessing for them to break the "Rule of two" and so the games Cannon ending was born linking Starkiller's family crest to the origins of the Rebel Allience symbol.
@DragonNinja: @DragonNinja: ... So, you're saying that the "Canon" and "Real" endings are separate?
That the "Real" ending, the "Evil" one where Starkiller lives, is what the sequel is based on, making the entire sequel "Non-canon" in regards to the movie's canon?
And the Good ending is considered "Canon" to the movies, but not to the "Non-canon" sequel? To the "Non-canon" ending? Making the "Canon" ending less "Real" than the "Non-canon" ending and it's sequel?
GG to the Aspyr folks. Welcome to the hostile and competitive world of out-of-work game developers. Hope you made a lot of friends with a lot of people at different studios, its the only chance you have at getting a new job... My condolences to you and your families.
PS: I know it was hard to resist, because its such a nicely flowing pun, but c'mon Luke, imagine that instead of Aspyr it said Kotaku. I'm sure you would find it in bad taste.

Except the evil ending is already expanded with dlc, and if I recall was vaderless, yet here we have vader in the sequel.

Rumor: Big Hamburger Time At Aspyr.
See how much nicer that sounds?
