Today sees the introduction of two new features to the Rockstar Social Club to help players of both the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable versions of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars enhance their play. First up is the Peking Duck Hunt, an arcade-style web-based game that allows PSP players to earn cash for their game while they aren't playing, much like Mr. Wong's before it. Then there's the Chinatown Wars Guide Map, an interactive map that shows the locations of every Drug Dealer, Security Camera, Rampage, and Stunt Jump in town, tracking what you and your friends have accomplished to see who is the rightful owner of bragging privileges.

Rockstar has also added new papercraft models from the game, including Ling and Uncle Kenny, an assortment of weapons, and several vehicles straight from the streets of Liberty City.

Visit Rockstar's Newswire page for full details on the new additions.

<![CDATA[From Flash To Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Cash]]> The Rockstar Social Club is teasing Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars with Mr. Wong's Laundromat, a new flash game that will let players earn cash for their DS game playing Flash games on their PC.

At first Mr. Wong's Laundromat was a mystery, but the gaming detectives over at MTV Multiplayer soon cracked the case, discovering the following text on the GameSpy page describing exactly what they contributed to Chinatown Wars.

Once at the Rockstar Social Club, registered users can also play Flash games like Mr. Wong's Laundromat to unlock additional cash that can be spent back in the game. GameSpy's custom work links money earned out of game straight back into your in-game funds to spend on bigger guns and more ammo (and you can never have enough of that).

Since your copy of Chinatown Wars has to be linked to the Rockstar Social Club in order to participate, it's a simple matter to get the Club to wire you money from a web-based flash application. Neat!

The GameSpy text is backed up by the teaser text on the Rockstar Social Club site itself:

These features are just the beginning for the Chinatown Wars section. We will be adding activities here that allow you to earn extra in-game cash as well as other special unlockables. Check back soon for more announcements.

And they would have gotten away with the secret too, if not for that MTV Multiplayer team and their talking canine companion, which doesn't exist.

<![CDATA[Grand Theft Auto IV Also Plagued By Zombies]]> World of Warcraft isn't the only game getting into the Halloween spirit, as Rockstar Games has kicked off a "zombie infection" in Grand Theft Auto IV. That explains all those dudes in shiny golden bikini briefs, then. And why not? Variety is the spice of life, so who couldn't use a little decaying flesh ambling about Liberty City for a while?

Rockstar warns, via the official Social Club that "The infected DON'T necessarily have to be wearing the Zombie skin, some show NO SYMPTOMS!" If you'd rather not partake in the fun, we'd advise steering clear of anyone with the zombie "skin," anyone with a "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie" achievement and, well, staying offline altogether.

The Rockstar Social Club has handy charts and graphs about the status of the GTA IV zombie plague, should this sort of thing tickle your undead fancy.

<![CDATA[GTA Marathon: Go Get Arrested. Lots.]]> gtamarathon.JPG
This popped up on the Rockstar Social Club a short while ago: The Liberty City Marathon. In other words, do a lot of what you ordinarily do in GTA, just do it a lot more often — or if you've finished up the missions, do it repeatedly and gratuitously to add on to your achievements. (Seriously, has anyone other than a reviewer finished all the missions yet? I keep starting over just to "play it right." No, really. Told you I was neurotic.)

In other words, for all you out there gunning for 100 percent, just know that you could be doing, I dunno, 110 percent. Some of these events are whoppers.

Jack 2,400 cars? I don't think I raided that many in Vice City and San Andreas combined, even with the steal-cars dealership missions. Also, getting arrested 120 times? Don't they know I restart every time the cops haul me in? Walking 400 miles would probably take 72 hours of real time. Wonder if I can sign Niko up for the Breast Cancer 3-Day.

Seriously, I have not played the game that much to start with: Do these look like marks you'll achieve normally in the course of 100 percenting the game, or will we be taping buttons down to get that 120,000th bullet fired?

<![CDATA[Rockstar Social Club Announced]]> Today Rockstar announced a new website called the Rockstar Social Club. Essentially a high tech leaderboard, the first supported game will be (drum roll) Grand Theft Auto IV (surprise!).

Compatible with Xbox LIVE and PSN, players can register starting April 15th to track all sorts of neat stuff they do in GTA IV when it's released April 29th. In addition to ranking players by time to single player completion, tracking the first to complete 100% of the game and singling out the best in a Hall of Fame, something called the LCPD Police Blotter will be a virtual map listing every single-player crime committed in Liberty City, ever. Oh, and additional lists will be aggregated of various "physical milestones" like miles walked and bullets fired.

For the full details, hit the jump for the press release.

On April 29th Rockstar Games will release the most anticipated game of 2008, Grand Theft Auto IV. In addition to the game, the company is launching the Rockstar Social Club, a new website that will extend your experience of Grand Theft Auto IV and all future Rockstar Games titles.

The Rockstar Social Club is more than just a standard gaming site. It features all of the statistical leaderboards that gamers have come to expect, and combines them with performance-based competitions and awards.

Registration for the Rockstar Social Club begins on April 15th and anyone can sign up with their Xbox Gamertag and/or a PlayStation Network ID.

GTA IV, the first game featured on the Rockstar Social Club, has exciting features beyond multiplayer leaderboards, including:

* LCPD Police Blotter — A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.

* The Story Gang — This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.

* The 100% Club — Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.

* The Hall of Fame — This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.

* The Liberty City Marathon — A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

The Rockstar Social Club doesn't stop there. With special competitions, leaderboards and challenges rolling out regularly in the weeks and months following the game's release, this is just the beginning of an on-going Liberty City experience and is a small taste of what's to come from Rockstar Games for GTAIV and beyond...
