He likes playing Resistance: Fall of Man so much that he's willing to sue Sony Computer Entertainment three times over (once on appeal) for having his account banned.

Estavillo first filed suit against SCEA in July, alleging the company's total ban of Estavillo from the PlayStation Network constituted theft and caused him pain and suffering. He wanted $55,000 in punitive damages and an injunction against all further banning. In September, a judge told Estavillo — who was representing himself — to pretty much take a hike and tossed out his case.

Now, GamePolitics reports that Estavillo is at it again — this time with an appeal of his tossed lawsuit and a civil suit against SCEA to the tune of $180,000. And he's still representing himself.

GamePolitics further reports:

Estavillo tells GP he is representing himself in these cases and, in light of his PSN ban, is playing the Wii (Metroid Trilogy) and Xbox 360 (Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe). Estavillo said that he loves playing as The Joker in the latter title and may be "a bit obsessed" with the character, adding, "I plan to wear a purple suit during my court trials. No joke!"

<![CDATA[Prop Billboard Gives Up Resistance 3 Date?]]> Here's a billboard spied by a NeoGAF user down in Shreveport, La.. Note the details of the frame - bombed-out gas station, prices are 80 cents higher than the area's average. This is a movie set.

The NeoGAF user (goldsoundz) who spotted this says it's in an area of Shreveport commonly used for filming movies. Other GAFfers pieced together that it's probably for an upcoming movie called Battle: Los Angeles, which is produced by - ding ding ding - Sony's Columbia Pictures. The picture's release date is February 2011.

So, this Resistance 3 billboard would be an advertisement in the film, suggesting that 2011 is when the next Res is on the way. Check out the larger size pic:

The full uncropped pics taken by goldzoundz are over on NeoGAF. Note also the Resistance 3 logo - and the Statue of Liberty forming the vertex of the A. I guess the Chimera are going to lay waste to New York.

I've emailed a press contact for Insomniac Games to ask if they have any comment. Should any be given, I'll put it here.

<![CDATA[Resistance Fan Gets Crafty, Builds Resistance Rifle]]> While Sony showed a little love to Killzone fans by manufacturing some replica Helghast rifles, there's been no such courtesy extended towards fans of the PS3's other sci-fi shooter, Resistance. So fans have to pick up the slack.

Hyokenseisou, who makes a tidy living on the side producing cosplay costumes and accessories, has built this Marksman rifle. While it won't kill aliens, it will do just about everything else, as it features a working laser pointer, ammo counter and even scope.

<![CDATA[Target Confirms New PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits Bundle]]> Kotaku has confirmed with several Target locations that a new 80GB PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits bundle will be available on March 29th, with Motorstorm and Resistance thrown in for free.

Target stores across the country are currently receiving, sitting on, or awaiting stock of a new 80GB PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits Bundle, which comes complete with the reissued budget versions of the original Motorstorm and Resistance. The sku number in question is 207-23-0009, originally revealed over at Joystiq. Several stores we contacted actually had the units in stock, but when they attempted to actually ring them through the register they received a warning that the product could not be sold until March 29th, days over the close of next week's Game Developers Conference.

Perhaps dashing the hopes of a pre-GDC price cut, the new bundles were priced the same as the standard 80GB PlayStation 3 - $399.99. Of course it's technically $60 due to the inclusion of two $30 titles, but do you really need those when two superior sequels are already on store shelves?

<![CDATA[Insomniac Still A Great Place To Work]]> If you dream of some day working for a top-shelf games developer, and care about the little things (like colleagues, benefits and job security), you may want apply for a job with Insomniac.

The development team behind Ratchet & Clank and the main Resistance games has been named the "fifth best place to work in California" following Employers Group's "California's Best Places to Work" survey.

We'd say this sure makes a pleasant change from all the horror stories you normally hear about from games developers, what with job insecurity and long hours seemingly the norm these days, but you should already know this since Insomniac win these awards on what seems like a daily basis.

<![CDATA[Inside Insomniac With Ted Price]]> Gamasutra's Christian Nutt sat down with Insomniac CEO Ted Price at their recent community event; the discussion centered heavily on Resistance 2 and the Insomniac development process. Price has a lot to say about how Insomniac deals with requests and suggestions from the user base, both on their own community as well as elsewhere (and gives us a ringing endorsement with "Well, sure, Kotaku is a good source."). A particular challenge was and is getting a handle on how best to design for online modes, since it's a bit of a 'black hole' for developers:

We're still learning what players want online, and what the "typical" behaviors are. But, it's evolving quickly, and I don't think that we can ever look at a particular online behavior and say that's typical. It's just, lots of people want to play lots of different ways, and we try to make games that will accommodate as many of them as possible.

But I think our community helps us out in a big way, because that is our direct access to the people who are playing games. We can get their opinions on what they want, very quickly, versus having to go into a game and listen to the chatter.

We're seeing those posts on the forums; they're emailing us, or sending us PMs and saying, "Hey, Insomniac, we want X, Y, and Z." And so, we can discuss those requests and decide whether or not to change the game around the next time, or include new features in our patches, etcetera.

A somewhat lengthy interview that's worth a looksee, especially if you're into any of the Insomniac franchises.

<![CDATA[Resistance 2 Takes 420 Hours To Complete*]]> * And by complete, we mean complete complete. Sony says — and you may already have heard this figure tossed around — that there's some 420 hours worth of play time in Resistance 2 required to unlock everything.

Thankfully, for at least my own review purposes, the single player campaign should take you about 9 to 11 hours to burn through. That's totally reasonable. But if you plan on dedicating the time to do everything, unlock every level, find every briefing, max out every class, you've got about 18 days of your life ahead of you just playing R2.

And if you do, you're a more dedicated man than me.

<![CDATA[Resistance 2 Bringing 44 Magnum Bombs]]> Just out of of a Resistance 2 session with Insomniac boss Ted Price. Showed the game's intro, which picks up where Resistance 1 left off. The sequel features new lighting and new motion capture along with more detailed textures. The game kicks off in Iceland and then by the second level takes players through the streets of San Francisco. Players are joined by three sentinels who help fight and tell the story since the voice over narration from Resistance 1 has been dropped. That should help players learn more about main character Nathan Hale.

"We've really upped the gore," says Price. It's possible to blow off arms, legs and heads. What's more, new weapons include a 44 Magnum, which fires bullets that you can detonate by remote. So, you could fire a buncha bullets in the wall and then detonate them. It's even possible to detonate those bullets that you've shot into Chimera. Instead of a health bar, when players are shoot, the screen goes reddish like Call of Duty. Should make the game much more immersive.

When asked about cross platform PSP remote play, Price said that was something they would not be addressing now. Maybe later? Maybe not? Who knows! Not me.

<![CDATA[Hey, You've Got Starbuck In My Resistance 2 Marketing]]> Above, a still from a promo vid for Resistance 2, currently screening at this location. Keen observers will note that's everybody's favourite female Viper jockey Katee Sackhoff trying to console a man who seems to be suffering from a nasty case of the Chimeran virus. I'll leave the speculation over what this all means (and the resulting morse code that spells "blackout") to you, I'm just digging the C&C cutscene vibe the whole thing's putting off.

<![CDATA[And Now, Some Resistance 2 Performance Stats]]> Speaking with Eurogamer, Insomniac's Ted Price has revealed some of the finer, technical details for their upcoming shooter, Resistance 2. First, they're aiming to have it running natively in 720p, so vertical pixel counters, take some time off. Second, it'll run at 30fps. Third, Price says "you shouldn’t notice any loading screens in R2", thanks to advances the company have made in terms of streaming the game's assets. You can be a fan of Resistance, you can not be a fan, either way you have to admit: Insomniac run a tight technical ship.

<![CDATA[Insomniac Still Developing New IPs]]> Now that Insomniac has found success with both the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises, you might expect them to simply sequel the IP as long as the checks come in, staggering each title's two-year development cycle to release one game a year. But Insomniac's president Ted Price explained that such a schedule ping ponging Ratchet and Resistance wasn't the plan. Instead they intend to, "continue to produce new IP, there's no question about that."

So a new IP is coming from Insomniac in the semi far to far future? Sounds good to us.

<![CDATA[Resistance's Blasphemy Gave The Church Business]]> Yesterday, we all read Insomniac's snarky comment promising more religious locales in Resistance 2 after the Church of England's outcry over Manchester Cathedral's appearance in the original Resistance title. But maybe the folks at Manchester Cathedral shouldn't be taking things so hard. Because as their director of communications revealed in a recent issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, foot traffic has been up since Resistance was released.

Since the story broke, Manchester Cathedral has seen a significant rise in visitor numbers...Teachers tell us that teenagers in particular are interested to see a building which they thought was fictional.
We're happy for the cathedral. And it's good that we don't have even an ounce of suspicion that certain members of the church would exaggerate their discontent in order to make a headline. Resistance fracas a blessing for Church [GamesRadar]]]>

<![CDATA[Resistance 2 Going After Religion]]> Resistance: Fall of Man deeply upset some members of the Church of England after development studio Insomniac digitized Manchester Church for a little man vs. mutant/alien warfare. So with the studio's upcoming sequel, will Insomniac avoid religious locations? CEO Ted Price fills us in.

We've actually made it a big focus to include more churches and now synagogues and mosques in Resistance 2.

<![CDATA[Resistance 2 is Totally Being Trademarked]]> So we all totally know that Insomniac is developing Resistance 2, but we don't actually know that Insomniac is developing Resistance 2. A sequel to one of the PS3s most praised titles seems like a sure bet, especially after rumor monger Surfer Girl gave us specific tidbits about the game...which while we in no way can trust to be true, certainly inflate our expectations.

On December 18, 2007, Sony filed a trademark for "Resistance 2" in relation to a video game. And while it's not uncommon for companies to go on the trademark defensive, ensuring that another company won't steal the title, we already totally knew that Insomniac is developing Resistance 2. You know, even though we don't at all.

<![CDATA[Insomniac Bringing More DLC]]> In an interview with D+Pad magazine, Insomniac's Ryan Schneider dropped a juicy, vague, open-ended quote that will get us nowhere but interested in hearing more.

It's been great to have a network that can facilitate the map-pack downloads, demos and trailers for both Resistance: Fall of Man and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. The number of users on PSN has been rising steadily and we absolutely plan to support them with more new content coming soon.
Yeah, while we've expected continued PSN content for Resistance, this is the first mention we've seen of anything downloadable near the words "Ratchet & Clank" other than "demo." Hmm...maybe Insomniac is planning new guns...or maybe just some additional wallpapers...or maybe nothing. Time will tell.

<![CDATA[Church of England *Finally* Forgives Sony]]> After first getting pissed, demanding that Resistance be pulled from stores, asking Japan to join the fight, threatening a lawsuit and insisting that Resistance not be nominated for a British Academy Video Game Award, the Anglican Church has finally forgiven Sony. Keep in mind, this is after Sony apologized to the Church of England and the people of Manchester for using Manchester Cathedral without permission — something that Sony was legally able to do. The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, the Very Reverend Rogers Govender has this very snide comment:

I think some important lessons have been learnt. So we do forgive Sony for what they have done, even though they still believe they have done nothing wrong. In an industry that is breaking new frontiers, it is important that long held traditions of film and television are maintained. These traditions include having courtesy, respecting the dignity of your subject, and admitting when mistakes have been made. In so many ways Sony have failed to live up to these standards by disrespecting people of faith and the victims of gun crime here in Manchester.
Lessons learned? Like what, not accepting apologies and beating a dead horse? In an odd way, Manchester Cathedral even has benefited somewhat from the brouhaha, since visitors to Manchester Cathedral have increased. Church Accepts Apology [BBC, Thanks SPni!]]]>

<![CDATA[Resistance II In The Works?]]> According to the Surfer Girl weblog—a site with lots of rumors that have yet to be proven or disproven—Insomniac is working on a sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man that's "tentatively" planned for release November 2008. And there are some neat details, too. Since someone might read something as a spoiler, we'll list the alleged intel after the jump.

- Game takes place in US
- Locales include Chicago and San Francisco
- Sgt. Nathan Hale may be back, may not, as lead
- 6 vehicles available in multiplayer
- 3 of those vehicles fly

Hmmm...flying vehicles. As long as the game doesn't turn into Star Fox Assault or Warhawk, we'll be happy. Oh, and Insomniac, feel free to use this box art. It's on us.
