"The customer of [the Wii] has turned into something [of a] much broader audience. It is a disappointment," says Seux (pictured) in an interview translated from French via Google Translate. Seux, speaking to the blog Gamekult, also calls developing for the Wii "difficult" and goes on to say "for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360."

It's likely we're hearing Seux's offhand opinion of the future, not official Capcom messaging here. Still, the words, coming from such a stalwart brand on Nintendo's platforms, are eyebrow raising.

It's clear Seux is frustrated. He points out sales of just 16,000 for Darkside Chronicles in the first three weeks of its release, compared to 140,000 for Resident Evil 4 on the Wii at release in in 2007. Seux's explanation for the disparity: the market has moved on.

One feels that there is a problem very clear on this style of game on the Wii, where gamers have obviously moved on. Resident Evil 4 on Wii worked well, but [it was released] when the market had nothing!

While Seux says the Wii is "still an important part of sales," he calls it "very much a family [console] with low attachment rates."

"This is the year of the emergence of so-called 'new console generation'," Seux concludes. "So for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360."

<![CDATA[Will New Resident Evil Movie Be Delayed?]]> Upcoming Hollywood flick Resident Evil: Afterlife has been announced for release on August 27, 2010, but reports have surfaced that the movie will be pushed back to January 14, 2011.

Afterlife is the first film in the series to be filmed in 3D, and the rumored delay is due to the extra time needed to complete the movie's CG special effects.

The film's star, Milla Jovovich, has tweeted that the movie has not officially been pushed back, writing, "RE Afterlife IS NOT officially pushed. There have been talks of pushing it as they [are] not sure they can have it ready by July. We [are] trying as hard as we can to still meet the summer deadline though, so for the moment its still on for August."

For the moment.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil In Motorcycle Form]]> If you could condense all of the brutal zombie-killing action of the Resident Evil franchise into one sleek, sexy package and ride it about town, odds are it would look something like this - Capcom's official Resident Evil custom chopper.

The Resident Evil custom chopper is the result of a partnership between Capcom, production company Hollywood Inc, and Frostburg Maryland's own Savage Cycles. Savage will be crafting an extremely limited run of these bikes, which folks like you and me will be able to purchase, possibly after robbing a small bank. The design, which you can see below, includes a number of interesting Resident Evil touches, such as zombie-killing spikes, airsoft weaponry, and cans of healing spray for when things get a bit out of hand with the airsoft guns.

Being a rider himself, Capcom's Chris Kramer is beside himself with glee over the project.

We work on a lot of different, crazy licensed products here at Capcom, but as a rider, this is the one that I am most excited about. Savage will be creating an extremely limited number of these bikes that you'll be able to purchase! This isn't some crazy corporate bike being built for display instead of riding. Instead, this is an awesome piece of Resident Evil merchandise that you can fire up and take out on the open road.

Savage is expecting to finish work on the first bike by early January, though if it continues to feast on the blood of its makers, it could be ready much sooner. Check out the link below for more details on this lovely machine's creation.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil Clergy Critics: "Wait, What?"]]> The U.K. clergy members quoted as criticizing Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for glamorizing violence and promoting the occult say their remarks have been misrepresented by the source originally reporting them.

The comments, by the Rt. Revs Mark Bryant, Brian Smith and John Goddard, apparently first appeared in a news release sent out in the past week, written and reported by a freelance journalist. I couldn't find a copy of this release. MCVUK, whom we cited yesterday, only reported Capcom's reaction to the comments; MCVUK did not originally report the clergy's remarks.

Anyway, the Rt. Rev. Smith said his remarks were taken out of context and made out to be more authoritative than they were. "I made it clear that I was not qualified to make a comment," Smith told TVG. "I suggested that the researcher should contact someone in one of the dioceses in London where I understood she was working."

Rt. Rev. Bryant added that his comments had been misrepresented. "I know enough not to go offering outright condemnation of things about which I know comparatively little," he said.

So, OK, sounds like these guys were played to type for purposes of someone's attention-grabbing news release. Sounds plausible. My original point still stands: Why did Capcom even bother to respond? Either these guys, or the people using them, are pikers looking to stir up a fight. Best to just let that dog lie.

<![CDATA[Religious Criticism of Resident Evil Dignified With Response]]> Generally, when dealing with religious kooks who allege your product promotes sin, exalts evil and is generally ungodly, PR 101 calls for a no-comment. Instead, Capcom's responded to two UK ministers after they called out Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Not sure who Bishop Bryant, Archdeacon Brian Smith or the Right Rev. (that's right, Rev.) John Goddard are, but they say the game promotes violence and an interest in the occult. Blah blah blah, encourages violent behavior, blah blah, slippery slope, blah blah, we know better than you. Really, it's like they ripped a page from World's Zaniest Scolding Clergy Mad Libs, filled in the blanks and mailed it as a press release.

Capcom's Leo Tan says to MCVUK:

This is scaremongering and typical religious hysteria. You cannot blame society's ills on video games. It's just absurd. Most games (and movies) like Resident Evil show characters fighting evil not supporting it. Unfortunately the clergy is showing a lack of understanding of the video games industry and is too quick to splash the holy water and lump video games players into stereotypical boxes.

And the three ministers were thus chastened, apologized for their knee-jerk scapegoating and said they would get back to making their communities better, rather than making games worse.

Or, they just nodded smugly that they got a defensive reaction from Capcom. Yeah, I'm betting on the latter.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil Movie Producer Wants Bigger Success, Unlike Saw]]> The Resident Evil movies make money, and they keep on making money. Just listen to what producer Don Carmody has to say:

"Part two made more than one, three made more than two and we're hoping four will make more than three," he said. "It keeps the franchise strong. What we want to avoid is what's happening with the Saw franchise which is going the other way. We're hoping Paul being back in the driver's seat with 3-D and these big action set pieces will keep it going."

So Resident Evil has director Paul W.S. Anderson back in the director chair, big action pieces and 3-D. Oh, and Milla Jovovich! So hopefully it will make more money than the last movie — unlike the Saw franchise.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition Will Be DLC]]> The awkwardly-titled, motion-controlled Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition will be released in the West as downloadable content, Capcom have announced yesterday.

The decision comes after a poll the company held, with users overwhelmingly voting in favour of picking up the game as DLC when it's released next year, rather than opting for a boxed copy.

Interestingly, instead of simply leaving it at "well, the people have spoken", Capcom's Chris Kramer has specifically urged on the company's blog for customers to hold off "thinking about selling RE5 back or handing it off to a friend" in the meantime, which makes it sound like the decision had a lot more to do with saying "fuck you, GameStop used game sales" than bowing to the will of the great unwashed.

<![CDATA[Jill Valentine In Resident Evil: Afterlife?]]> Actress Sienna Guillory appeared in flick Resident Evil: Apocalypse as character Jill Valentine, but was M.I.A. in the third film, Resident Evil: Extinction. Rumors have it that there was a contract dispute with the actress.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson is currently filming Resident Evil: Afterlife and star Milla Jovovich tweeted this tidbit: "Valentine MAY be back." That also means she may not be back.

Perhaps, Guillory worked out her contract issues or perhaps the producers are bringing on another actress altogether to play Valentine.

<![CDATA[Milla Jovovich Twittering Her Brains Out About New Movie]]> Milla Jovovich might be new to Twitter, but that doesn't mean she's not a twittering fiend, dropping bits and bops about the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife. Spoilers, ahoy!

Don't believe us that Jovovich is a serious twit. Check out her updates from the last 24 hours or so, which provide all sorts of details about Afterlife. Deep breath, here goes, Jovovich's selected tweets:

they were of the big action sequence with Alice and Claire fighting THE EXECUTIONER who in reality is an 8 ft. tall heavy weight boxer!

he has a HUGE axe and we're in a prison shower, so everytime he swings the axe, showers explode!

so thru the whole scene its literally raining! so beautiful!

...so before we started shooting Paul met with the creators of the game and they are too much! so sureal!

he"s sitting in this very "umbrella" style boardroom and there"s like 6 japanese guys, very serious, all staring at him. kind of akward.lol!

so the japanese are all staring at him and he trys to make some conversation you know? and he says"so whats some future plans for umbrella?"

thinking they will laugh or something right? i mean its a fictional corporation for heavens sake!

but they VERY seriously look at him and the main dude goes(imagine the japanese accent please) "umbrella corporation has many secrets." lol!

its so creepy right? i laughed so hard when he told me that. its like, relax a bit guys! they act as if they really are umbrella! scary.

...we're doing a great scene where Alice walks into umbrella headquarters and there are 6 huge V22 Ospreys lined up in a huge hangar.

the ospreys are VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) planes, otherwise known in the US military as "widowmakers" because they crash so often

of course umbrella's ospreys don't malfunction and they look a million times cooler cause umbrella is very into aesthetics! lol!

...someone asked if the executioner looks like the ax man in silent hill. well, kind of, but much cooler!

cause he doesn't wear a triangle on his head and doesn't show man ass.

...so, for anyone interested in the guns i use in this movie, here is the list:

2 smith&wesson 460 revolvers, 2 sawed off double barrel shotguns,1MPSK submachine gun,2MP9 submachine guns and 1 M4 assault rifle. phew!

so, Wentworth, Ali and i are doing this scene right now where chris r. and clair r. run into the V22 hangar, guns blazing,

trying to shoot Wesker, but to run in groups firing weapons is VERY dangerous.

cause shooting a gun with full loads, even though they are blanks could make your head cave in at short range. fun right?! hehehe... not.

and the last time we all did a scene when we were all firing together, i could feel my hair flying up from the guns behind me.

Twittering at a break-neck pace — but can see keep it up?! The account isn't verified, so your mileage might vary. And sadly, Milla Jovovich follows no one. Somebody explain the concept of Twitter to her and quick.

<![CDATA[Milla Jovovich Offers Video Game Advice For Parents]]> Star of the Resident Evil film series, Milla Jovovich is more than an actress. She's a mother, too!

And as a mother and star of a series of action films based on zombie games, she probably has a good take on entertainment, kids and parenting.

She does! The actress tells Parade.com, "I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it's OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It's really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards. And it's the same with video games."

<![CDATA[Resident Evil Film Series Getting Reboot]]> There are already three Resident Evil movies. We are getting a fourth called Resident Evil 4: Afterlife. And after that, we'll be getting somewhat of a reboot.

The current films have strayed far from the source material, and according to website Bloody Disgusting, the concept for the quasi reboot "is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident."

The project is to be called Resident Evil Begins and is still quite early in the planning stage. It does not appear to be a vehicle for actress Milla Jovovich. Her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, has produced, written or directed all the Resident Evil films to date. No word on whether he'll be involved with this quasi reboot or not.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles On Steadier Ground]]> Developers recently toned down the shake of the camera in documentary-styled shooter Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles to make the upcoming Wii title a bit easier to play, Capcom developers say.

"It was a bit of a trial and error, this shaky cam," said Masachika Kawata during a meeting at this week's Gamescom convention in Cologne. "It was probably a little too much, so it's a little toned down now."

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles attempts to retell the stories of two classic Resident Evil titles, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica, in a Wii first-person shooter that takes control away from the player and replaces it with camera controls made to look like they were shot with a hand-held camera.

During my time with the game today I played through an early level of the game, killing 34 zombies (four with headshots) as I made my way back and forth through a set of buildings.

While the level, played on the middle of three difficulty settings, took me just 8 minutes and 36 seconds to shoot my way through, Kawata assured me that the game as a whole would take about ten hours to complete.

He also said that levels are meant to be replayed by gamers hoping to wipe out all of the zombies as they make their way through the game, which controls how quickly you work your way through each scene.

Kawata said they made the decision to take the control of the camera and movement away from gamers because he wanted them to concentrate on shooting.

"An on-the-rail shooter is more of an adventure game, is more about shooting," he said. "So players can concentrate on that."

When I played the game earlier this year during the lead up to E3 the camera seemed to slide around and shake more, making it hard to target zombies when they ambled onto the screen. The shaking, though, also made the game more of a challenge.

This time around I found it easier to go through the level, not losing any life until the final moments of the level.

Kawata suggested I play the game on the highest difficulty, but I can't help but think that perhaps the game's unique jittery perspective has been toned down too much.

What hasn't really been toned down is the game's gore. Playing through the level, I first blasted the hat off of a zombie's head and then shot away a large chunk of his skull.

That's just the right amount of gore, Kawata said.

"Obviously if you are creating a horror game, you have to deal with gore, blood, decapitation, but it is getting a little bit tricky because of ratings.," he said. "I feel this is as much as I could go this time around."

<![CDATA[Milla Jovovich Has Never Seen A 3D Movie]]> Have you seen a 3D movie? Actress Milla Jovovich hasn't. Not even Captain EO! That's okay, because she'll be able to watch herself in 3D when the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife opens late next year.

From an interview with website ShockTillYouDrop.com:

Interview: I know a lot of actors don't like to see themselves on screen and I was curious about whether you've seen yourself in 3D yet.

Jovovich: No, I haven't, I haven't.

Interview: I guess there'll be thousands of you in 3-D.

Jovovich: That'll be pretty interesting. I've never actually seen a 3-D movie.

That doesn't stop the actress from going to say how an action movie like Afterlife has "a lot of potential for 3-D to kind of use the medium at its best."

Afterlife will rap up filming this Christmas and be out next September.

<![CDATA[Casting Resident Evil: Afterlife]]> No secret that today's been a tough one. We know lots of you had problems getting to the site. So let's wind down with a game of what-if, casting the next Resident Evil film.

The Bits, Bytes, Pixels and Sprites takes a look at who'd be best for the fourth installment of the franchise, which, as video game movies go, has sucked less than the norm. Then again, Uwe Boll does blow the curve on that.

Chris Evans, (above) aka Johnny Storm from the (to use a Stan Lee favorite, yeccch) Fantastic Four series is their Redfield choice; Karen Dyer, who voiced Sheva Alomar in the game, is the no-brainer for that role. Kelly Hu is shrewdly chosen for Ada Wong, based on past video game work and some strikingly good looks.

Chew it over, mull it, or just flame it to death. Whatever, there's gonna be another Resident Evil film, and as past efforts have shown, these things don't act themselves.

<![CDATA[New Resident Evil Movie Gets A Director]]> And that director is Paul W.S. Anderson. The last Resident Evil Anderson helmed was the first one; he wrote and produced the other two films, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction.

Anderson will write, direct and produce Resident Evil: Afterlife. His wife, Milla Jovovich, will reprise her role as Alice. The movie, the fourth in the franchise, will be in 3D.

"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," Anderson told website ShockTillYouDrop.com. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Resident Evil: Afterlife is penciled in for a September 17, 2010 theatrical release.
