Ugh. What a LAZY move on Capcom's part. These stupid light gun games are whoring out a franchise that a lot of people actually care about. So so so let down. An RE2 remake on Wii would be a fucking BLOCKBUSTER. The hardware is more than capable of using the RE4 engine, and with a little effort, they could be RAKING IN THE MONEY. Why, Capcom, why?
I bought UC, I have Overkill, I'll get S&P 2 and Extraction and I'm not getting this one, they are enough, I don't need more on-rails games for my Wii.
From Capcom, just waiting for MH3, Spyborgs (I liked the idea) and Tatsunoko vs Capcom (of course, if we get it)!!!
Sega, Namco, Marvelous and some more little companies (besides Nintendo) are the only reason why i still having a Wii!!!
Now, this is just silly. With a title like "Dark Side Chronicles", I would've just made the whole fucking game about Wesker. Let you play as him throughout the entire series, maybe INCLUDING a teaser level based on RE5.
@Jon Sakura: There's such thing as having an open mind, but there's also wanting more. Especially since (bar Resi 4 style remakes of 0, 1, 2, 3, and Code Veronica) fan wishes for the series are pretty reasonable - remake 2 and 3 like everyone thought you were going to do after you did such a good job on 1.
Capcom releasing straight ports of 2 and 3 was one of the big disappointments of last gen.
With respect, the quick time events are what gave the game more depth and interaction than the typical lightgun game. I would be safe to assume that you simply weren't coordinated enough to pull them off. ;) Also you rented the game when this game is so long it must be bought to refine your gameplay and finish the game.
That aside I really don't see the point in setting this game during re2 when many portions of re2 were already in the umbrella chronicles, at least the ones that would be well-suited for an open-air shooter. I don't think it'd kill capcom to make an original story for the game with original settings. The real issue is they've worked themselves into a corner with this whole parasite virus they are using in the never games, making it difficult to switch back to the more loveable zombies for games like this.
I'm assuming this was written as a response to me. Believe me, I'm a pretty experienced fighting game fan; it's not an issue of coordination. It's an issue of the Wiimote's accelerometers being total shit at picking up precision motion correctly. It's the same way that it was next to impossible to pull off the Four Winds combo in Okami Wii, something that's simpler than peeing into the Grand Canyon on the PS2 controller.
Remember the level in the Resident Evil 0 stage where you had to QTE dodge an EXPLOSION? No matter what happened, my wiimotes would fuck that up; it was even harder to do when playing co-op, since if EITHER player fails, both of you die and you have to repeat the entire level from the checkpoint.
@Archaotic: Admittedly that particular QTE was frustrating (I in fact was just playing it today), but it's forgivable. I think when I was playing to day with a friend I was the only one to pass it and we still lived, so i dunno...
Everyone got excited that they'd be doing a new RE, so of course everyone is disappointed that it's covering old games. But for what it'll be, I think they'll do a good job. No way to tell until we get some hands-on impressions.
On a side note, I just got 2 Nyko Perfect Shots and my light-gun shooters are infinitely more fun now (that's right, infinitely).
I was always meaning to get one of those...then things started moving too fast with new jobs and lawsuits and fun stuff like that...and then my PS3 actually started getting games. I should really pick one up sometime.
@Archaotic: Totally worth it IMO. I tested one out when I worked at a games retailer and it was so much more fun than we could have imagined. Ghost Squad however still isn't fun, just for a fair warning :p.
Oh, I've held one a few times back when I worked at GameStop, myself. Just never got to use it for an actual game.
I always preferred selling it to customers over the shit-tastic Wii Zapper. Whoever designed that thing must have eight arms, like some sort of Mecha-Shiva.
Dammit Capcom. This crap should've been in Umbrella Chronicles in the first place. There's no way in hell this game is going to have as much content as Umbrella Chronicles, especially unique content. Not to mention they'll probably recycle a ton of the outdoor Raccoon City resources from the RE3 portions of Umbrella Chronicles (seeing as how both games take place at the same time in the same city).
Also, I do not care if you put Code Veronica content in this either, and would care even less for RE4 content. Plus, what more is there to explain about the Raccoon City portion of the Resident Evil storyline? I have a feeling they're just going to throw in some sidestory bullcrap they made up to flesh out this game, that will probably have no relation to the storyline.
Considering they've already "remade" RE0 and 1 on Wii with the original controls intact (well, compared to the PS1/Saturn/Gamecube controls, I mean)...it's very unlikely they'll break with the formula from here on out.
It's starting to seem that Capcom's designing these games to be deliberately fail-padded; basically, if they fail, they hardly care because it was cheap and they have the HD consoles to fall back on with Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, RE6, and (presumably) DMC5. If they succeed, they can just use the profits to make another low-effort Wii game, then lather rinse repeat until it's no longer financially viable.
Looks like Famitsu just spoiled Capcom's Friday announcement. Famitsu oh so loves to spoil people's announcements for them, don't they?
That being said...meh. Umbrella Chronicles was fun until the Wiimote QTEs got involved, at which point I packed it up and brought it back to where I rented it. Whoever thought Wiimote QTEs were a good idea needs their arms chopped off.
However, if this sequel doesn't have those? I'll play it. The light gun shooting wasn't offensive or bad, just the QTEs.
"Famitsu oh so loves to spoil people's announcements for them, don't they?"
Nah, they didn't intend to. What a lot people forget is that Famitsu's supposed to come out on Friday, which is the same date as the release of RE5 over there in US. Those scans usually come from the folks at 2channel (not 2chan) who get the issues early.
@Archaotic: Between the Wiimote QTEs and that lovely "you have a split second to shoot that one pixel in the boss's mouth or you're fucked" fight, it sure had its annoying moment.
I did have fun with it, though, but mostly because it played it with my non-gamer brother and a friend.
@Avrum: yeah this really disappoints me to no end...especially when I think about how Capcom has only used the RE4 wii engine on that horrible dead rising port...what is with them? Monster Hunter 3 better be damn good, Capcom just keeps shafting Wii owners.
@Avrum: RE4/5 being the "style" everyone was hoping for? I was hoping for another gorgeous pre-rendered remake along the lines of Resident Evil 1 on GC (and now Wii)!
@Glitchigo: You don't remember Capcom essentially stating the real third monster hunter is going to be on PSP right? Kotaku had an article about it with Inafune(sp.).

LOL, true. But you know what? I'll bet ya right now that there is indeed a RE5 themed level. A RE4 one as well! ^_^
03/11/09
I fully expect an RE4 level that lets you play as Leon and Ada or Leon and Luis.
RE5? In this game? I dunno, probably not. It'd be interesting to see Kijuju rendered in Wii graphics though.

That's not good game design.

RE4: Wii Edition-style remakes of 0-3. Gawd.
