I enjoyed Umbrella chronicles much more than I thought I would. Although the bosses did my head in. I won't front: they handed me arse to me many a time!
I harbour a deep amount of love for Resident evil 2 (giant alligator attack and all ;P), but I'm not feeling the same desire to get the Darkside chronicles as I did the first game. Probably because I know it's just going to be more of the same, and I want more than that.
It's a real shame Capcom STILL haven't included online play. That would have been something that might have swayed me more into getting this game. Because frankly, when my friends and I get together - we don't really tend to sit and play games. And on the occasions we do, we stick on a beat 'em up.
It'll be interesting to see how Capcom handle the Code: Veronica scenario's. Given Claire and Steve were rarely ever together in the game, and the only hint of the two of them having 'something' was when [SPOILER!!!!!] Steve died.
Anyone who would actually take offense to Capcom's chastising these crusty old bastards wasn't going to buy the game anyway. All it does is up the controversy dial, which in turn translates to more hype with the fanbase. They like things like this.
to be honest I can see Capcom's response as a means of stirring up some controversy about their title.
Look at their history... off the top of my head, Resi 2 featured an infamous advertisement showing a baby with text to the effect of "would you kill this baby to avert a zombie apocalypse?" which understandably pissed a lot of people off. Resi 5, more recently, failed to stir much controversy by leaving fake body parts around London...
Winding up the clergy sounds like another stab and raising awareness and scandal for their title... which of course would aid sales... controversy sells.
Muslim organizations didn't even say much about the issue and some stated there wasn't an issue. Sony made it a bigger issue than it was and I think they attempted to generate some controversy for the sake of controversy, which in the end backfired on them.
Fricken people from the U.K. I can't believe they go around running their mouths about videogames. Don't they know how stupid they are? Don't they know how many people from the UK murder other people? Don't they know how many crazy people they produce every year? Don't people know how many wars the UK have started throughout history! We need to expunge people from the UK from the face of the earth!
or.......
We could stop judging enormous groups of people based on the words of 1 or 2 individuals.
Hmm. Well, he's not technically contradicting whatever his original statement was; he's just saying it was misinterpreted. He didn't really say much in his rebuttal to take back what he said. That's like me saying I got tipsy, and my friend confirming, no, I actually got shit faced plastered. I still drank, y'know?
Let's not forget, two years ago, Pope Benedict, THE POPE, openly condemened violent video games. To these guys, the Pope's like the big boss. I'm hard pressed to believe that they don't support that statement. I'm surprised they're defending themselves as feverently as they are when obviously the Pope let be known how he felt about it, without taking it back. Benedict meant what he said. And said what meant.
@guitarheroguru: But the thing is, he doesn't have to take back what he says. It's his opinion and he has a right to it.
The issue he is getting at and the problem here is that he was taken out of context; according to him, the reporter made the statement sound more authoritative than was warranted. That makes a huge difference in how we interpret his statements.
Surely there are bigger targets than a Resident Evil game on the Wii? I mean, if you want to troll games at least do it properly. Trolling is a art after all.
But the clergyman may simply just be saying he was quoted out of context. We don't have the original transcript / freelance journalist's article to check.
We still don't know what Leo Tan / Capcom saw that set them off. The fact they did respond to this seems to indicate whatever the original material included was just as bad as the MCVUK quoted, or it may have been a fly-off-the-handle response.
Seems like there's a whole lot of missing information regarding this.
Today I have managed to have numerous religious debates, watch the movie religiousus or whatever it's called, watch Al-Sharpton get owned by Chris Hitchens among other things, I have heard so many absurd comments by the religious today.
It can give a non-religious person the idea that maybe religious people speak when having no idea what they are talking about, however CRAZY that sounds.
Really the credibility of religion is beginning to falter so much (implying credibility is actually given in the first place) among all the outlandish dogma spewed, and ill informed masses who choose to "follow" these religions when clearly having no idea what they are even investing their lives into.
Yet it remains such a rampant system in our world assuring that the choices that ultimately matter on a global scale are influenced by radical idiots who throw logic aside when making their choices and decisions.
Hell, the general consensus for the original article was "well the crazies will be crazies", it's more complicated then that. I'm not say Capcom is a righteous organization, I mean fuck RE5 MP DLC and crap like that, but I'm glad finally somebody is speaking out against the outlandish bullshit claims people are making without knowing what they are talking about whatsoever.
Destroy their credibility more, destroy their reputation, expose them for what they are, and help rid the world of this disgusting entity. And for those who are religious and act accordingly, let them do what they want, as long as they keep all of that crap away from governments and others.
Good on you Capcom, keep up the good work (and by good work I mean telling these idiots off, not that paying for mp crap...)
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: Wow...I'm still trying to find which article you are reading. Do the men who were not even quoted in yesterday's story not sound at all rational to you? Their quotes were nonexistent, and now they come out saying that they informed the journalist beforehand that they were not even qualified to make the comments (which weren't quoted) to begin with. I'm trying to find in this article where he starts spewing about his religion and how everyone should follow it or they are DAMNED. This is just another case of someone taking one little comment and blowing it up way out of proportion for a good headline. I still don't understand how someone like yourself who claims to be so rational cannot even see that this is not really that big of a deal. If anything you are the one having this incredible knee-jerk reaction resulting in you spewing your own "truth"s and disrespecting everyone else who just can't seem to be as cool as you.
Annnnnd I'm done :o)
@Zenrick3.0: I do not like comments made from ignorance by people in positions of power and influence, or those promoting narrow minded only listen to us and stay away from the evil type things either.
I believe things like these are the enemy of intellect. If you don't know what your talking about, don't talk. In the original article, if you follow the link, you get the quote. Thing's like that said, even little things help influence people to actions that can hurt expression and business for no logical reason.
If Obama tomorrow came out and said "I'm not qualified to talk about this, but FUCK ISLAM!!!!!" What do you think would happen? Everybody in the country almost would be up in arms about a bunch of crap because he spoke out of term and without qualification (even though I would laugh, and cheer him on.)

@Slagathorian: Except, I will never hurt you for your beliefs, or oppress you or take away your right to practice them or anything.
I may scream some things and clearly show how much I disagree, but it's your every right to think believe and practice whatever you want with in reason. (Like if religion x says rape is ok, you still can't practice it, but if you want to go to mass and spread fliers, more power to you, but I'll keep saying how I feel about it as well.)
I believe that one day (if we are not destroyed before) we will naturally evolve past it, that is how the world will be rid of it. If I'm wrong, it's not the first time, but I have faith in people.
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: Do you know what the last thing I remember religious people doing in my community? They set up a free snow shoveling service for Seniors. They've been getting up every morning it snows at around 6:00 AM, drive to an elderly persons home on a cold morning and shovel their entire driveway and sidewalk. I also know that my church has been paying a single moms mortgage for the past 6 months so she doesn't lose her house.
My experience with most religions on the planet is that the majority of them teach peace, forgiveness, morality, and overall being a good person.
I'm not sure why people such as yourself have made it your personal crusade to be so vociferous about something you cannot possibly prove, and telling everybody know has any kind of faith what idiots they are. What do you get out of it exactly? What do you have to gain?
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: You took it too far with your rape comments. You too are in a position of power/influence with your star on this site, don't you think you should be a little more careful with the words you throw around? Your own words, not mine.
@Slagathorian: My last experience with religion was walking down the street watching people protest the event of giving other human begins their rights.
I'm glad that they did that in your community, I'm sure you and your church is full of good people. I'm also sure enough that you would all be so good without religion that you would too help those elderly people for no reason besides the simple fact it's the right thing to do, no gods about it.
I also go to church sometimes on Sunday (go figure) and have to help with teaching the children, if you could even call it that. I almost got in trouble going against everything the teacher said...
I will also agree though in most instances a lot of religions teach peace, forgiveness, and morality, but do not follow this at all, and also do not promote tolerance to important thing's like race. (Look at Mormon's)
Not to mention, religion generally promotes ignorance. I'm not a fan of that either.
Do I think religion is the root of the worlds problems? No, there's a famous atheist named Joseph Stalin that shows it's completely in human capacity to be evil if you are a evil person, but a lot of religions take good people and make them do bad things.
Also I have no beliefs to push on people, I have a lack thereof, and I don't really get anything out of telling people "think about what your saying and promoting" besides one day hopefully a more informed community. Once again, it's completely possible to be biased toward things for no logical reason and not religious (see, console fanboys) but religions establish organizations that do this on mass scales that influence politics around the world.
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: If you're referring to Gay Marriage, its not a human right, neither is straight marriage, or any kind of marriage for that matter.
Also it needs to be pointed out that Religion doesn't cause wars. Bad people use religion as a banner for people to rally under to give a moral stance on an amoral activity. If you expect good people to invade another country and kill innocent people, its better if they think they are just (misguided though it is) and religion offers a perfect way to accomplish that.
Can't you agree that there are good and bad religious people and good and bad agnostics? Religion has little too do with it. Especially when 96% of the world has some religion or other, you're bound to find some riff raff.
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: I will also agree though in most instances a lot of religions teach peace, forgiveness, and morality, but do not follow this at all, and also do not promote tolerance to important thing's like race. (Look at Mormon's)
How so, because quite frankly I can provide evidence to the contrary, what with being Mormon myself. Everyone of every race is a member of the church. I can safely make that statement because I see different races, people of different cultures and backgrounds every time I go to Brigham Young University.
Also, just because we don't support gay marriage doesn't mean we don't support gay rights. If the church didn't, then this wouldn't have happened. [www.msnbc.msn.com] [www.msnbc.msn.com]
@Slagathorian: It is not a human right, but it is a right, one that should not be taken away simply because the union is not a man and woman.
I also agree completely with your second point, but my point is the good people are led this way due to this tool that serves little purpose other then manipulation. I'm not so narrow minded I would only limit this to being exclusive to religion, I also do not like nationalism or patriotism among other things.
And yes, I agree once again that there are good and bad people, and that hailing to one religion doesn't automatically make you bad, or only religious people are bad. I'm sure had we met under different circumstances and never discussed religion, we would of been great friends from the start, or at least good buddies seeing as we probably both share the liking of video games :P Thing is, religion is one of the tools that you can use to take good people and make them do bad things in the name of something evil, it's in no way exclusively the only tool that does this, but it is one of them.
If any of this time I came off extremely agitated or reactionary or something I apologize, it has been a bad day for me and take complete responsibility for being a douche, I have a head ache and sore throat on thanksgiving, in which I barely ate anything to help attribute to this.
I will end this by saying to you no I do not hate you or think your evil because your religion, I have tons of christian friends and even attend their churches from time to time. I also do not hate most of the fundamental morals taught, even though I do disagree with some. I just hate that almost all religions cannot and will not adapt to changing social standards and the like, even given all the more knowledge we have obtained. (To be short, there's more but I'd rather not get into it)
So please keep doing good things to help people! Just, please do not do it in the name of god, do it because you love your fellow man and want to help them. I'm sure me and Jesus Christ could both agree that this is why you should be doing it, and not simply because you are told to.

@Atomsk88: You are allowing them their rights until it interferes with your personal beliefs, though.
Yes, you say discrimination against them is wrong, but then you discriminate against them when it comes to who is allowed to marry who. You are still oppressing people unless you give it your all in assuring their freedoms.
It's akin to saying when blacks were written to be equal to everybody else, they automatically became equal and their was no more oppression, because their fundamental right to live a free life was granted.
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: "According to the Islamic Law, female virgin marriage is only possible with the consent of parents or guardians as well as the virgin females," the embassy said.
"It is obvious that releasing such blatant lies is only with the aim of hostility and animosity with Islam and the Islamic Republic of Iran."
First post.
And your second post has nothing to do with religion. Hell the first one doesn't even but it is either done how it was stated, or it's exactly how the embassy said it is.
Besides, that wasn't my point, you have an obligation with your posts showing up over others, to not throw out religious propaganda (again your words not mine) because with said star you are in a position of influence.
Before you say it isn't religious propaganda, atheists have taken this shit to a whole new level, preaching just as much as any member of the church. If you are true in what you say and you want us to just evolve past this, explain this to your friends, and teach your kids that god is a lie, and if more and more people do this, we eventually will evolve (stupid word for this btw, it's not evolution it's learning) past this. Forcing your beliefs into the minds of others, is just as bad if not worse what this guy has done, because he himself said that the reporter took what he said out of context, this guy isn't forcing his beliefs on anyone, because he simply doesn't know about the game.
Again atheists have taken this to a whole new level, most respectable religious people (not all I have seen the ones that are just like you as well) don't force you into their church to listen to them, but here you are spouting your crap for everyone to come across on a website (about video games). Go write your own blog to preach, you didn't just say "good someone said something back" you went on to bash ALL of religion based on one comment.
This is coming from someone that doesn't believe in god, who was baptized christian, and through the years have come to his own conclusion of how the world works, and was created.
@amg0D: I am not a athiest, never claimed to be a athiest, and do not want to be affiliated with it at all.
Religion is not the idea of a god. It is how god interacts with humans, and generally sets a standard for human behavior. I do not know if god is a lie, at all. I don't think we can evolve past the idea of gods, I cannot even disprove a god to exist. What I mean by evolve is evolve past ignorant systems that create so many problems world wide.
Also Islamic law is based on religious text, which is kinda what I was getting at.
@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: You speak of me discriminating, which means you must know me very well oddly, but you should remember well the discrimination against me and others of your opposing views. Heck if I could paraphrase the verbal and psychical abuse I lived through as a child/teen for my faith. Judge me on my faith, but know that it is only what I am, not who I am.
Hate, intolerance, discrimination, all the imperfections of mankind are unanimous throughout the world. Before you lecture the world, seeking to lead it through your views, look at yourself and see what it holds for everyone else.
@Atomsk88: I have no view to lead the world I have preached. I have no answers and nothing like that.
I have never let your religion define you. The only time I said you discriminated against somebody, was due to a example you have given me that if I'm not mistaken is what you believe.
I will probably call your beliefs stupid if you explained them to me, and if I explained mine to you, I would want you to call them stupid and point out every flaw and fault in them, and I will address what I can and concede to what I cannot.
I do not hate you, I will never hurt you, I wont put you on a black list for being Mormon, I will not oppress your voice, I won't do any of that.

@(Zombie) D Mitsuki, Gotta have guts kid!: Just know this, that I as an individual am defined by my actions and my voice alone. The same is true for those who follow any religion, or if anything a personal motto to live by that they have sought and believe to be true.
I am not someone who seeks the flaws of others. I may state one's minor flaws, such as misinformation on a timid subject. However I accept individuals who are willing to accept me, even if they oppose everything I stand for. That reason alone is why I've been able to make vastly different friends in my ongoing life. Those of different races, different faiths/beliefs, cultures, and yes even sexual orientation. Explain your views, your beliefs, and your experiences towards life. I will not call them stupid for you have come to that conclusion on your own terms and thoughts.
I have a view to lead my life, and I am willing to discuss it with others if they seek to learn, not to destroy. I have become a pessimist though because I see the world as one of self-hate and self-interest. I am not perfect, nor will I ever be or anyone else for that matter. It is the occurrences of man each day that makes me think so lowly of us as humans and that peace is merely a fantasy in our current state.
I guess I only really responded to your comment because I thought of a member of my faith some years ago. He was a black man, one who was in an interracial marriage and from my point of view lived an average and decent life. However, he gave a talk one Sunday about how it was troubling to be him because of his color and his faith. None of his friends outside the church thought highly of him. That he wasn't a "real" black man for being Mormon, a faith that has had a troubled and mixed past on that color alone.
I don't know why he was friends with people who thought poorly of him, those who sought to belittle him and his family. A past perhaps, or some other connection? Simply put I think about it every time race is brought up, even when it doesn't pertain to the discussion of faith and religion. I even look at my friends who are there every Sunday and wonder what they may have gone through.
The only difference I truly believe that has come because of my faith is that I expect the world and all its problems to end happily, not tragically. Odd considering I have such a pessimistic view of the world and humanity, but that's how it is.
If I may say so, I'm frankly not surprised. Like you, Owen, I also looked for a original transcript or something, after noticing that such was missing from the MCVUK article, but found nothing.

So please keep doing good things to help people! Just, please do not do it in the name of god, do it because you love your fellow man and want to help them. I'm sure me and Jesus Christ could both agree that this is why you should be doing it, and not simply because you are told to.

Hate, intolerance, discrimination, all the imperfections of mankind are unanimous throughout the world. Before you lecture the world, seeking to lead it through your views, look at yourself and see what it holds for everyone else.

And I would never think otherwise.
As for the man, I will say something to that in a PM.
