Umbrella Chronicles Outsells Zack & Wiki 3:1, Tears Stream Down Our Faces
As part of their quarterly financial results, Capcom have announced sales figures for some of their more prominent titles from Q3 2007. Zack & Wiki included. Surprisingly, it managed to sell 300,000 copies; not much in the grand scheme of things, but for a puzzle game featuring new IP and no Western advertising? It did OK. Until, that is, you look at 10-hour snoozefest Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and see it sold over 950,000 copies. That gasping, gurgling sound you hear behind you is the death of justice. Also revealed is the company's hopes and dreams for Devil May Cry: they're planning on shifting 1.9 million copies in the final quarter of the fiscal year, which multiplatform or not, is a big ask for a game pitched at a (relatively) niche, hardcore demographic.

Zero Punctuation Takes on Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
When Capcom released a rail shooter as their next installment to Resident Evil, it was almost asking for a once over by Zero Punctuation's Ben Croshaw. All in all he's pretty fair to the game and the concept, though thank goodness for black boxes covering cartoon privates.
Favorite line (abridged): "Do you remember what those villains from Captain Planet were like, how they'd steal an oil tanker and deliberately crash smack into a beach just to teach the sea lions a lesson in complacency ...well that's basically the Umbrella Corporation."Zero Punctuation: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles [theescapist]

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Weapons Trailer
More Resident Evil goodness for you today. This time we have a trailer featuring the arsenal of weapons at your disposal for doing away with the zombie hordes. Most of the weapons here will be familiar to RE fans but for you newbs it will be a lesson in mass destruction. If this video (and years of RE playing) has taught me anything, it's "get the grenade launcher as soon as you possibly can" followed swiftly by "always keep plenty of green herb on hand." Emphasis on the latter. -

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Montage Trailer
Unlike some of my esteemed colleagues, I'm quite looking forward to RE: Umbrella Chronicles. I've been a fan of rail shooters since House of the Dead and my very favorite, Carn-Evil. I've played RE:UC a few times now at various events with and without the Wii Zapper and while I enjoyed it, I will admit that I liked it better in co-op mode. Something about standing side by side with a friend, taking out zombies right and left with a well placed head shot that just makes my heart light up.

Even Milla Jovovich Doesn't Look Hot Gaming
Ten years ago, back when I was in LA working for Quentin Tarantino, I saw Milla Jovovich at Canter's at 2am. There she was, eating matzah ball soup and looking utterly stunning (while everyone in Canter's looked haggard and like a pile of dirty laundry). Whether she's singing folk music, strutting down a runway or punching zombies in the face, Jovovich is truly a beautiful person. Even with child, she is GLOWING and cute as a button. She could probably makes anything look, well, beautiful — well, almost anything. Here in a tape recording at a Capcom press conference, she plays through Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, once again proving that nobody looks good playing video games. NOBODY.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
While I remain largely unconvinced that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles will ultimately result in an enjoyable product, I'm definitely in the minority. Wii owners seem to love this game like a zombie loves raw brain matter, but something about this light gun-esque shooter just doesn't sit right with me. However, this new look at the game's two-player mode, showing off a number of environments from multiple Resident Evil games at least helps to break up the mansion monotony.
