Golden Arm is a stat in this game? I am always - always - shocked at what the Moral Majority take umberage at, and what they don't.

Summers is relatively under-sexed by modern video game standards which makes it easier to take the game seriously.

Which is why they have her in skin-tight patent leather, with her ass highlighted on the cover of game?

With her bad haircut, very angst filled personality, tendancy to knife a bunch of dudes, drug addictions, craziness, and utterly unappealing(to me) physique, i officially dub her a male character. (or a lesbian)

I was hoping this game would turn out well, mostly because of the main character (for all the reasons AJ mentioned in the review). Ever since the first few trailers/videos, Violette felt like an intriguing and different character.

She seemed like someone I could invest some interest and concern in. I may not be female, but I doubt I identify with burly marines much more than AJ does.

Still, those positive elements - atmosphere, character and occasionally brilliant stealth - will be enough to make me at least try the game, warts and all.

I won't drop 60 euros on it, but I'll probably take a stab at Violette when I can have her for cheap.

    ...Boy, that came out wrong.

@Cyco: Seriously, the wreck a French village and you try to 'save' the villagers only to have to watch/listen to them all burn to death in a church where you get stuck in a firefight outside. Then, it turns out the guy you assassinated isn't dead and they don't actually TELL you what happens to Violette after she collapses on the ashes of the church -- they just show you some watercolor grassy field with her standing in it at the end looking at a bomber plane. Very unsatisfying.

To me, it's a fantasy where a woman character can be powerful and compelling without magic powers and huge tits. But that fantasy doesn't hold up against real life. In real life, spies run away, the actual Butcher of Paris survived WWII to be pardoned for his crimes, Violette Szabo died a horrible death and Velvet Assassin isn't worth the money.

I love the bitterness in your voice? Do you intentionally always set out to talk about 'huge tits'and how games are sexist? Regardless five words needed to be said in that except.

Velvet Assassin isn't worth the money.

@hermes200: She's still relatively under-sexed, even in her nighties (the keyword here being "relatively", like AJ wrote, when you consider video game standards).

Yes, the developers are clearly pandering when they undress Violette for the morphine sequences, but the way it's done doesn't look all that sexual to me.

Hell, Lara's standard outfit is more sexed-up than Violette's lingerie (and let's not even talk about the DOA bimbos, Bayonetta, every female in a DMC game, or Drake's über-erotic half-untucked wet shirt clinging to his toned body).

How are games this broken still released into retail? Don't they playtest the shit out of them befor the deadlines? Obviously these guys had to make cuts somewhere, but cutting out the testing phase was a bad choice.

The mechanics seemed to work well enough, they should've spent time polishing it up instead of adding random shootouts. I was looking forward to a nice stealth game on the 360. Oh well.

@van_line: I'm not familiar with the PS3's release quality since I don't own one. But if it's true that there are fewer buggy games, I'm more tempted to pick one up. Plus that whole BluRay thing I still have yet to adopt.
