meh, I'd rather play a game of Magic the Gathering every now and then with my friends rather than any PC or console trading card games. And that Beast Dominator from the 2nd pic looks too much like a Thoctar.
@Kicken: It's actually a very good game, it's only real problem being some card unbalances, but that's to be expected.
@televizor: You make your faction out of cards, those cards have different tiers so that a good deck goes from teir 1 to teir 4 well in just the same way that an RTS faction goes from teir 1 units upwards. The game even has resource gathering and defensive structures. To sum it up, it's an RTS where you decide the faction you play as.
Try it out for yourself before dismissing it. It's free to play and you get enough cards to try the game out.
This game showed potential, but is kind of limited. It comes down to rock-paper-scissors to the Nth degree. This might change more as more cards and strategies are introduced.
@ThreeOneFive: It's listed as such because that buys you the retail version, which includes the 4 starter decks as well as 3000 Battleforge points to spend on cards.
Dawn of War II is phenomenal. I love me some base-building, but this is a different sort of RTS that just nails it. If there were more varied maps and missions, more campaign races and planets, we'd be talking about a GOTY contender.
As it stands, it's a great mix of Company of Heroes and Diablo/Dungeon Siege.
Hurrah! Didn't think you were ever gonna get round to posting this one - game's been out since friday, and we get a review following thursday, Halo Wars isn't even out yet, had a review since tuesday or something.
I loved DoW series but all the mods are making me feel Relic is looking weak for never releasing Tyranids on the DoW1 engine. The lack of buildings seems a bit disappointing, and I play this all the time with friends on mass-scales of 4 on 4 matches and I'm curious if the multiplayer is actually fun to play with the lack of structures and such.
You didn't play co-op? thats like, the most awesome part? :( what heresy is this? The Co-op makes the RA3 geared co-op look rubbish, and even Gears of war 2's co-op seems medicore in comparison.
I'm still a sceptic. I'll just have to try it once I get back home from Japan. I'm worried that the RTS portion will feel watered down with the unit count being so low. My fear is that the single player portion of the game will be fantastic, but that you will tire fast of the online bit because of the the previously mentioned unit count. I also really don't like that they decided to skip the buildings pretty much all together. They should have just taken the best parts from the first game and the best parts from company of heroes and build a amazing game. I would have loved to see a more advanced resources system and hit sectors for vehicles... GAAAAAH it's just infuriating, why do you have to go and screw with a winning concept Relic!
Because we don't need the same game over and over again...and DoW II may not be the same winning concept that CoH had...but trust me when I say its an all new winning concept.
While the first DOW was a good game, It still lacked a lot of the things that made the board-game so good. While It probably would have been stupid to make a direct conversion from the board-game it would have been nice to see more of a mix between the boardgame and Relics latest RTS games (company of heroes in particular). I don't think they should do more of the same, my opinion is that they should try and improve the cover system, have a armor, hit-sector and damage system for vehicles and give the game a overall more strategical, tactical feel that would have made it more that just a RPG-RTS or a RTS. Something of a mix between a RTS and a turn-based game.
Obviously from not having played the game yet it's stupid to give a rash judgement, but I just get the feeling that the game has been dumbed down and that adding "experience", "levels" and other RPG characteristics to the game does not do enough to improve that tactical depth, because in the end it's still the same low unit count, the (from what i've heard) shallow variety of different units and in general a game that seems to lack the tactical depth of even the previous game.
Wow, that sounds awesome. I'm totally sold. I like my resource management to be turn-based, which prevents me from enjoying most RTS games. I do enough real-time resource management at my day job, and it just ends up stressing me out in games.
I just got DoW 2 and I must say it(the campaign) is a lot like a Starship Troopers game I played back around 2000. Squad based and customizable to a point. The game is fun, I can only hope for some awesome expansions in the future.

Edit: It's free?! Hmm...

I'm on day 31 on Primach difficulty on Typhon - The last story mission I have is, well, the last one.
Biggest issue I have is the fact that the game is about as stable as a penny balanced on a needle tip, held by someone with parkinsons.
Multiplayer is a blast, though. Farseer forever!
