Wii Music? Total Sales Bust |

Guess it's a harder demographic to pin down than I supposed.

Traditional Core Game. I like that.
Anyways, I found it disgusting that Nintendo was offering AC up as its proof they "weren't forgetting the hardcore"... then show it on TV with two middle aged women...

Now, how it's being advertised...that's different :)
11/14/08
And the advertising is my issue. It's just so deliciously contradictory.

Flashback to e3,
Reggie claims Animal Crossing wii as a hardcore/core game. Presents it as something for those audiences especially.
Flash forward to now, where they advertise the game towards middle aged house wives.
Seem a little odd?

I still expect nothing, and hope it gets that.
I'm so damn tire of hoping for good stuff from Ninty. I cheered during the bad years, just hoping while secretly indulging on PS2 goodies. Then they did well. Incredibly well. I still feel empty, as if I'm hoping for an underdog company to pull into the spotlight again but that's obviously not the case. Ninty, do you remember me? No? *sigh*
What's left for an old soldier? PS3? God no, mine has actually collected more dust then the wii. Hell, I picked it up only because a handful of friends wanted me to play cod4 with them. That was a waste...and I now have a vicious hate relationship with it.
Do I pick up a 360? Sounds the best option, at least there is some entertaining games there, but I desperately don't want another system and it's difficult to let go of the ps3 even though I hate it.
Instead of that option, how about I suggest Shiggy retire? The company has changed so much lately that I can't help see it affecting him. He's seen better days. He's passed on much of his IP's to others to work on and they've done fantastic. I don't want to see another wii sports, wii music, wii fit, etc. His talents can easily be put to better use. I miss young shiggy. Daring, determined and bold...
Now it just seems every game involves 2 days of design and all the rest of the time on just polish and menus.

Or the attractiveness of the wii to third party developers.
Third parties are very busy, they just aren't very busy on triple A titles for the wii.

Many points here.
First of all, the wiis install base doesn't mean a whole lot when you consider the buying habits of a lot of them. Release a new third party hardcore franchise on the wii, it doesn't do too well.
Think No More Heroes. That game deserved a lot more, but it was laughed out of Japan and barely kept alive here. So thankful it is getting a sequel.
Now, when you consider the composition of the 360 or ps3 install base, you have a better chance of success with new third party titles, like dead space. Plus you can push the games further technically (not just graphically)
A third party title on the wii has to compete with domineering first party titles, an illusionary install base, and will have to market the HELL out of their game.
A third party title on the 360 or ps3 has to try hard to stand out too, but they stand a better chance with that audience.
If they are making third party titles like Carnival games or wario ware, they can succeed easily on the wii. But it is a lot harder when you try seriously.

My cite

But does that state which TYPES of games sell on the systems?
No.
We know what has sold the most on all three systems, take note that third parties are the undeniable movers on the 360 and ps3.
This supports that the wii isn't really getting the 3rd party priority here. I was only offering explanations as to why.
11/14/08
Clarification: by types I don't mean third party/first party.

Relax man. If there were something he would have cared about, he would have heard of it without looking at the list.
11/14/08
Look at it this way, I don't own a PS3 so it does me no good to search for PS3 releases. Obviously, when games like LBP get splattered all over every web site I visit, I know they exist. But beyond that, I have no idea what has come out in that last 6 months because I haven't looked.

You aren't getting it quite yet.
He knows what he wants, but he knows it is far off. If something like that was coming he would NOT need to check a release list.
Don't feel you need to defend Nintendo this holiday, they are making a VERY weak showing, it goes in cycles.

But the thing about sleeper hits is barely ANYONE sees them coming.
You can't blame him for not seeing something most people miss anyways.

That said, even low sales numbers have to be rather decent for Nintendo for profit. It really couldn't have cost them that much money.
Though I figure they could have gotten a lot more had it been Wii Ware.

Also, the fact that the price of gas has dropped by well over $1.50 per gallon, that means that two weeks' worth of fill-ups earns you a new game! ^_^

Actually, there are quite a few games that are kid friendly and aren't "hardcore" up there.
11/14/08
11/14/08
But you said Kid friendly casual. From what I have seen, loads of those games are kid friendly and can be casually enjoyed. GH, Rock Band 2, LBP, all the wii titles, Kirby.
You don't have to be a Hardcore or even core gamer to enjoy these.
11/14/08
It's too much that the trend will continue, though.

Unfortunately according to the sales figures, it wasn't aimed right at anyone.
Also unfortunate, but according to Myamoto this isn't even a game. That's hard for individual stores to promote.
