what the hell? those screens can't be from the actual game. Are you kidding me? Wii games that actually look good? wow, I'll be damned...I may actually have to "GASP!" PLAY my Wii...
Good job Capcom, this almost makes for that Dead Rising trash that you tried to convince us wasn't as bad as it truly was. Now just give us lowly americans Tatsunoko vs Capcom and we can call it even steven.
That is one good-looking dame, which will hopefully play as fine as it looks (and there's no reason why it shouldn't, considering the devs' pedigrees).
More generally, it seems to me that the Wii's most beautiful games are those that don't strive for realism. Attempts at realistic character models inevitably look dated nowadays.
I wish Wii developers focused on developing unique and colourful graphical styles, because that's the best way to squeeze gorgeous graphics out of the Wii, IMO.
@Antiterra: I usually agree with your train of thought but I'm going to have to disagree this time young thundercat. It's the art direction not the just the 3D engine that makes a realistically rendered world work on Wii. After seeing Monster Hunter3 run yesterday, I'm convinced of it. Also, I still blame the developers to an extent.
Developers just need to spend time truly maxing out the Wii architecture. Also, Look at Metroid Prime 3. the further you go into the game the better it looks and it's not just "ok", it really looks good and it's a first gen Wii game. I want to see what Retro would do with Metroid Prime Hunters on Wii.
What I don't understand is how all of a sudden, developers and fans alike seem to have forgotten that we just spent an entire generation playing games that tried to render realistic worlds. Cube, PS2 and Xbox all did and in the best cases did it very well given the hardware. Factor 5 still has one of the best looking games of that generation in Rogue Leader (special mention to the air and space battles in Rebel Strike) and that was a first gen, Cube title. We can't get that on Wii which is more powerful?
What's up with the screenshots? They look WAY TOO GOOD to be Wii graphics. They look more like PS3 / X Box 360 graphics.
And before anybody calls me a fanboy, I have a Wii and a PS3, and I know pretty well how capable are both consoles graphically, and NO, I really don't see the Wii outputting graphics THAT sharp and rich on textures, colors, shadings, etc, at just 480p.
The very best looking games I've ever seen on the Wii, graphically wise, were Super Mario Galaxy, for its colors, shadings, awesome textures and particle effects, and Mad World, which have such a superb art direction that you don't even notice it's not 480p… and those two games don't look nowhere near those screenshots.
Are they trying to fool someone to think they're actual Wii graphics? Because I do not believe it's possible. I'd love to be wrong, though.
This trailer has proven you wrong good day! Of course the video isn't absolutely perfect but yes the Wii is capable of this. Seriously Capcom is milking the system resources dry making sure the graphics will be on par with current systems. Come on you other lazy freaking devs put your backs into it!
@mitch_93: Now that VIDEO you posted DOES look like Wii, so I'm callin' Photoshopped screenshots here (or screen captures from a higher res dev system).
Yeah, it's supposed to be a Wii exclusive. And, like wonder6oy said, that trailer does look like something the Wii can indeed pull off. And the trailer is looking great, for Wii standards, but there's still a HUGE difference between the screenshots and the actual trailer.
Actually. Look at those screenshots. They even look HD, with no jaggies to be found, and all Wii games, even the best looking ones, have jagged graphics, unless they're played on a TV that filters the graphics to look smooth, in which case they obviously wouldn't look as sharp as they look on those screenshots. I'm calling bullshit on that.
To put it simply, the Wii just CAN'T output those graphics UNLESS they're HD (720p or higher), and we all know the Wii just can't do that, with its current settings.
I really hope that they manage to pull off a game that looks even better graphically than Mario Galaxy, and I think it's quite possible, but it really annoys me when they try to fool you with some images that are just plain impossible on current Wii graphic settings (or any other system, for that matter. Motorstorm original trailer, anyone?)
@gurfinki: Well the graphics are possible but the video output is limited to a low res. It will be a jaggy mess. Hopefully it will be light on the jaggies , like Galaxy was.
If the Wii had an HD scaler in it then we'd have some great looking games. Ever see Dragons Lair and Matrix in 1080i? They look amazing.
This is looking miles better than the videos of last year. Though I think was one of the few that though that the wacky concept of before was actually interesting.
I hope it gets to be as good as a rachet and clank game, because those ones are awesome.
This year i'm spending way too much money on games for my wii... it's a good year for games it's a bad year for having such ammount of great games on such a bad economy.
