I think the best thing EA could possibly do is ask. I don't see sports having wide appeal because men like to geek out not just over players, but their stats.
If you look at football lovers overall, there are the rivalries, but also droves a devoted stat geeks and the next obvious jump is to Fantasy Football and Madden for them.
The way football is marketed also focuses predominantly on males retreating to their mancaves and brohomes, sheltered from the henpecking wife or barely-tolerant girlfriend figure. Cue the beer ad with cheerleaders, relationship sight-gags, et al.
The fact is, girls play many games that guys do and it seems to me that they may play the ones with marketing that don't overly sexualize them.
Run some surveys, take some actual feedback instead of relying on said surveys and, for God's sake, listen. Then, EA, you can realize that you're no longer in high school and that it's O.K. to talk to women without stratifying or lifting them up on a pedestal. #easports
EA want's to appeal to females more with their sports franchises I'm gathering. They want market penetration in that demographic or some other catchy buzzword right.
Well, I just look at them and call them mad and envision myself in an 1800's academic auditorium wearing a black bowler hat and sporting a waxed moustache puffing on a meerschaum pipe and joining in with the chorus of bemused laughter filling the hall coming from my colleagues and peers.
We watch with bewilderment the young man at the dias we've come to see, sides aching from the guffaws and belly laughs, wiping away the tears from our eyes with monogrammed handkerchiefs drawn from our breast coast pocket.
The object of our jeers is standing at the podium, adjusting his spectacles and shuffling nervously, red faced, through his papers as he mumbles something under his breath.
"I knew they wouldn't understand, but I'll show them, I'll show them in the end and we will see who gets the last laugh!" He stammers before he is laughed right out of the pulpit.
"Women interested in Sport's Games indeed! Pshaw. What manner of folly will they want us to believe next, that men can fly with metal wings! Or that we can travel to the moon to sample the green cheese with our afternoon tea! Indeed!" we chortle as we file out into the foggy Victorian streets on our way to the pub to drink brandy and play at Billiard Balls and Bagatelle.
@Sobersean: Dear Sir or Madam: I am intrigued by your musings and wish to subscribe to your periodical. Please send to the haberdashery on King's Row. His manservant shall send for me. #easports
The dig at Wii Fit is a bit unfair, considering the amount of people complaining about the resistance bands - that come with EA Active - breaking.
And as far as Microsoft making the first move to all digital (or whatever his theories are on the next method of game sales) I don't see why. Sony made the first jump to discs, Nintendo made the first to motion control (not counting EyeToy). I don't see why Xbox would be first to go all digital.
Then again, I may have missed a speech saying it was their plan or something, so if I'm wrong, please inform me. #easports
If you want to attract female gamers, you need to do something that appeals to them. Madden is full of football, not appealing to the typical girl.
If there's anything I've learned from video games, its that girls like three things: horses, being a princess, and jewels of some sort. So the answer is obviously a horse-riding mini-game where the prize is a diamond-studded tiara and a date with their NFL player of choice.*
*Sorry lesbians, but the ability to date the cheerleaders is DLC only. #easports
Persona 4 does a pretty good job, but that's to be expected considering the game is part dating sim. Grow closer to someone, choose to pursue a romantic relationship or not, continue to spend time with them and go out on weekends even when you've maxed your social link.
@Ladi: The weekends part well it's funny :). If you've got more than 1 relationshiop going which is easy (since breakups don't seem to happen once maxed out), you're bound to find the previous g/f gatecrashing your current date. you'll end up going out with her as your current date usually just leaves (probably because there's still a few at that point to level up).
The weekend romance bit in that game is amusing really.
@WhatTheFrag: Yeah, I remember Rise crashing my date with the Sun social link (or vice versa, I forget). Fortunately Daisuke and Kou were able to diffuse the situation :P
@SocraticMethod: I could never bring myself to be mean to Aerith until the very last/latest time that I played the game (got Yuffie), but now I've played the game so many times (10 completed runs, probably 15+ plays) that I never want to play the PS1 iteration again.
And now, WHEN they remake it, I won't be able to do the Tifa or Barrett one either, as I will need to see the touching Aerith one in HD.
Fuck you FF VII, for helping raise me as a wee lad and making me so attached to you.

Why do they keep trying to ram the insufferable SW: Force Unleashed characters down our throats? The Secret Apprentice was cool but (spoilers, but you've had a year) now dead. And the plot of SWTFU was paper thin and its characters as appealing and well rounded as cardboard. Trying to gear up for a sequel? I sure hope not.
@NoHoldsBarred: I actually enjoyed the story more than the (generally solid) gameplay mechanics of the TFU. I thought Galen was a pretty believable character, and considering the beyond-cramped timeline they had to work the story into, I thought the whole affair felt complete, self-contained, and pretty coherent. Compared to some of the other drivel we've been stuck with in some Star Wars games, TFU read like Pilgrim's Progress (looking at you, Jedi Knight, Empire At War, Lethal Alliance, KOTOR2, Galaxies)... it actually obeyed one of the principal laws of Star Wars canon-- that is, that one must have an unashamed love of Joseph Campbell-- and left me wanting more.

You could stop bothering with another mediocre psp battlefront and get working on BAttlefront III
or try and pull strings for kotor II
Or any number of better projects.
@KenwayClytemnestra: Never happen, though. Needs far too much introduction, honestly. None of it would make sense without telling the entire Yuuzhan Vong War story (and even then, the reasons for Jacen's fall are fairly skint)... and also, Han, Luke, and Leia are improbably spry for being sixty-odd years old in those books. I can't see them getting Fisher, Hamill, and Ford to do anything like the stuff that happens in those books on a movie set.

In Ea sports Active, have a male only mode, with nude models doing aerobics...
50-50 guaranteed!

I love how it plays different music (Barrett's theme) instead of the romantic, slower music when you're on the date with Aeris or Tifa.

I never was nice to Aeris....never liked her, I always liked the Barmaid with the hot rack :points to icon:.
Now if I made FFVII, I would just make it to a threeway because really, why choose? Just have them both.

LOL! I just want the game in HD 1080/30fps...that's all I want.
Oh, and I'll still, even after 12 years...will pick Tifa for my date.
