I was already planning on buying this... this just makes it better.
Still, it bothers me that the 360 has pretty much become the shmup console of this gen. Not that I have anything the console itself... I just hate the dpad, and I'm too cheap to shell out money on a decent stick.
That said, I would still like to see some ports of the original Raiden games.
@Regulus: I just noticed yesterday that the Hori EX2 stick is now available from Amazon and some other retailers for $50. I have too many arcade games to not get one. I think the D-pad is serviceable, but the stick should help significantly for Pac-Man CE and some other games.
@mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta: But I want it naowwwwww. :p If the cheap Hori is too unstable for me, I'll look into grabbing it. Honestly, I really am wanting a stick more for Pac-Man and Dig Dug than SFIV or VF5, so Hori could have released a barebones 2600 stick and I'd have bought it. :p
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: I'm surprised Wal-Mart would even carry the game. Limited stuff like Aces tends to be GameStop and Internet store only releases.
Whoops, my bad. Didn't realize Jet was a different game.
@Kobun
Yeah, I was pretty surprised to find it there, considering I couldn't find it at any other store (including EB and Gamestop) around here. 18.88 price tag, in the bargain bin.
The engrish in it is pretty hilarious though, and its obviously a lazy port job, but hey. Good games are good games.
Art-books are so over rated. I've looked through the Spore art book maybe twice (i was one of the Chumps who bought the GALACTIC Edition)
I prefer colector's editions with the Making-of DVD's. Atleast they're entertaining and interesting. (Civ 4 Gold Edition, Spore Galactic Edition, and Fable 2 i recommend)
@Roufuss: Likewise, Raiden Fighting Aces supports tate mode, so turn your screen vertical and watch the borders disappear. The game even supports opacity options for those borders and stretching options which I believe can cover the full horizontal width of the screen. I haven't tested it yet to its fullest, but the option is there if you'd rather a fatter display over empty bezel.
I'd love to know why Raiden Fighting Aces could not included the first three Raiden games. It's as though Seibu Kaihatsu is channeling George Lucas just to toy with my feelings and desires for a perfect console original trilogy.
I'd also kill for a Psikyo collection, but I don't know who owns the rights to address my angry, threatening letters.
@Kobun: Raiden and Raiden Fighters are two different series. Originally RF was going to be called Gun Dogs, but they added the Raiden name and jet in for brand recognition.
@Rambozo: Yes, I know, but the older Raiden games are still quite popular and are developed by the same company. Given the lack of a "perfect" port and the excellent presentation of RFA, I can't help but want the original three done in the same manner.
@Godmars: Raiden Fighting Aces is $20. I don't know what your definition of "overpriced" is, but come on. That's a bargain. I'd imagine this would be $20 or something under $30 as well.

I wouldn't go into a vertically scrolling firefight without my Seimitsu artillery.
I gotta say. Making the FightStick series was the greatest thing MadCatz has ever done. Forcing HORI's hand is probably the second greatest.

It makes me weep how this game was just released, in limited quantities, and nobody seemed to give a shit about it.

Raiden 1,2,3 are different.

I'd love to know how the term "shmup" came about since it's such an odd truncated word.
