There are so many great Saturn and Dreamcast games that I'd love to see in a collection or on PSN/XBLA... It's impossible to play these games unless you actually have a Dreamcast or a Saturn, and since I'm stupid and sold my old systems to buy new ones... :(
Actually I'm glad to hear the level headed comments that Treasure made regarding Silvergun. This game is overhyped. Its attained this legendary status for the same reason alot of these import only titles have. Not alot of people have played them and so they hear about the game through second or third hand accounts. Now add to that the collectors or importers investment mindset. If theyve spent over $100 for a Dreamcast title you better believe theyre going to tell you its the best thing since sliced bread. Silvergun is an above average shooter but as Treasure says, it has NOT stood the test of time.
@Modus_Operandi: Radient Silvergun is one of the best shmups released and that isn't an exagerration and I think it stands the test of time perfectly considering I still fire it up to play it fairly often.
Mars Matrix and Psyvariar II fit my definiton of "above average" shooter. Im also partial to Gigawing.
Lets put this in perspective. Bangai-O has stood the test of time better than Radiant has. So you already have a great Treasure shooter that has seen re-release.
If you released Radiant as it was 10 odd years ago itd be on par with the other 600 shooters on XBLA. Ikaruga had an interesting color mechanic that makes that game. Radiant is just a shooter. A rare one but thats all. I think thats what Treasure sees also. Even Bangai-O has an interesting game mechanic. Radiant is just a shooter and, aside from helping all those poor sods getting hoodwinked on ebay into buying this overpriced import, it wouldnt bring much to the table or to XBLA.
@Modus_Operandi: The replayability of RS is staggering. I still play that game when I think about it (so today I am sure to break it out) and while the 3D effects have aged, I am sure making what was polygon into a higher res would do wonders.
The 6 weapons, all upgraded over time... it's like kicking some new ass each time you load it up. I have yet to find a shooter that I have played as much and I owe most of that to the weapons system.
But back to the port, this is one I don't want a half assed recycled release (I'm looking at you Super Puzzle Fighter) where some shit is redrawn and the rest is the same.
This is a subjective thing. Any game you inherently like is going to be "highly replayable" in your eyes. But the truth of the matter is if you release this game on XBLA itll attract 2 types of people. The people who have heard the hype but have either had the foresight not to plunk down a c note for a decade old shooter, OR the people who have had the luck to be unable to follow through with their misguided attempt to plunk down a c note for a decade old shooter. Both camps will look at this game and say the same thing. Whats all the hype?
F'in A! Yeah man! Actually, what I'd really like to see is some of 'Treasure Collection', maybe with improved HC graphics. Guardian Heroes, Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, Bangai-o and Ikaruga. Damn, I'm getting tingly!
@ColonelMunch: It doesn't sound like that at all. What they don't want to do is have a whole bunch of people play it and say "what the hell is this crap?"
It sounds like they're more interested in updating it and releasing it as a standalone game. Pretty much the opposite of "lazy".

I'm willing to agree with you if you can cite a shooter that you believe is above average.

Those are what I want out on XBLA.

I'd love to see a full remake though, as a full PS360 remake.

Then you can bring us Shenmue 1 and 2....oh and Panzar Dragoon.

@uzivatel: You can but that means trying to find a copy that isn't scratched to shit and hoping it's supported ok on the 360.
@zgreenwell: And I hope they do.

Treasure seems to be more open to remakes and sequels these days. I could go for a follow-up to Guardian Heros as well...

Throw in some Silhouette Mirage and I would never leave the house again.
No Dynamite Headdy necessary, though.

Seems a bit lazy, but then again, maybe they dont see the + side in porting it as much as everyone else does.
