Diecast — bringing back childhood memories of metal.

The model is of R-Type's "Madou Gokin RWF-9A Arrow Head" and will be released in Japan next March. It's 5.11" long and fully painted. And there's a force pod, too! Pre-orders start at US$129.90.

<![CDATA[King Of Games Go Spelunking]]> Japan's King of Games - our second favourite outfitter of gaming shirts - will this week be adding some more good stuff to their line of Irem clothing. And where there's Irem, there's R-Type, and there's Spelunker.

The single R-Type shirt has actually been available for a while, but we're showing it anyway. Not because you can't buy it outside of Japan (none of it is on the English site) and that it's sold out, but because it's so great.

The new stuff, however, is part of KoG's Spelunker line, and adds to the existing t-shirt by introducing a range of hoodies (top). And "Weakest Explorer" aside, they're as refined, subtle and tasteful as you'd expect from such a pricey outfit.

<![CDATA[Bad Ideas: R-Type, Ghosts 'N Goblins For iPhone]]> R-Type is coming for the iPhone. Ghosts 'N Goblins came out over the weekend. Who keeps signing these cheques?

R-Type, which is being ported by DotEmu, will be out "sometime in the next few months", while Ghosts N' Goblins was released in Japan on Sunday. So...take two games requiring fast, precise controls, then port them to a system capable of neither. What a great idea.

<![CDATA[R-Type Coming To Xbox Live Arcade]]> The Bydo empire must be destroyed. Again. The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has rated a new title in the series, named R-Type Dimensions, for an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release. The surprise announcement, dug up by GamerBytes, shows that Microsoft will publish, but that developer Tozai will handle all the coding wizardry.

Unfortunately, there's little else in the way of concrete info for R-Type Dimensions, such as whether it will be a totally new entry in the series or a HD remake of a previous entry. Whatever the outcome, we don't care. It's R-Type!

<![CDATA[R-Types Rated For PlayStation Network Re-release....]]> R-Types Rated For PlayStation Network Re-release. You're certainly not going to be lacking in the various ways to play R-Type soon, as the ESRB has rated R-Types (again) for the PlayStation 3 and PSP, meaning that a PlayStation Store release is likely, if not imminent. The PS One "classic" was originally released by Irem in 1999, collecting both R-Type and R-Type II, a pair of extremely challenging arcade side-scrolling shmups. More please! *cough* Thunder Force V *cough*

<![CDATA[Shoot The Very Small Core]]> We. Want. These. Next February, Japanese toy maker Yujin is releasing a "Shooting Game History" capsule toy collection that includes the R-9A Arrow Head from R-Type, the 0F-1 Daedalus from Image Fight, the Vic Viper T301 from Gradius, the Metarion from Gradius 2 and the Silver Hawk from Darius Gaiden. Yujin, you had me at R-Type! For those that don't live in Japan (sorry), know that National Console Support is selling complete sets for US $45. But, really, can you put a price on miniature Gradius toys? Survey says "no."

<![CDATA[R-Type Tactics Coming Stateside?]]> According to a historically reliable NeoGAF member, one who has access to Gamestop's list of upcoming software releases, Irem's R-Type Tactics is coming to North America courtesy of publisher Atlus. Rebranded R-Type Command, the game is said to be scheduled for a March 4, 2008 release date at an MSRP of $39.99. The game eschews the lightning fast reflexes needed to avoid enemy fire from Bido adversaries, instead offering up turn-based, hex-based strategic gameplay. You won't control just one ship, but a fleet of space craft.

We're waiting to hear back from Atlus on the matter to see if this rumor turns out to be true.

<![CDATA[R-Type Tactics... R-Type. Tactics.]]> Looks like Irem wasn't kidding when it titled R-Type Final, the supposed final shoot 'em up in the long running, hard-as-hell sidescrolling series. Yes, details are scarce, but from what we can gather by these awful, awful scans from the latest Famitsu, R-Type is ditching twitch gameplay for a more chin-rubbingly strategic bent. Hex-based, turn-based and awesome-based, R-Type Tactics looks like a crazy cross-genre shooter that's just crazy enough to work.

I promise, I'll be watching like a hawk for any and all updates on R-Type Tactics. Keep your eyes peeled for news and the inevitable online campaign for a North American release.

Scan via The Next Level Forums. Thanks, Chris!
