The highlight, of course, was a two hour Cruis'n session—the Wii shitware title that was finally freed from its shrinkwrap confines last night to much amusement. It's absolutely the most unintentionally hilarious game I've ever played, with some of the sloppiest game design ever... even for a Cruis'n title. Rarely has a game brought me to tears with laughter, so Cruis'n should at least be lauded for that. Highly recommended for your next game night, especially if booze is available.

This weekend I'll be ditching the Cruis'n as I get back to R-Type Command and continue my Rock Band duties, now with added Boston. How about you? Weekend plans?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> LETS R-TYPEWith Ma and Pa McWhertor swooping in to LA this weekend, my attempts to get some Grand Theft Auto IV time in are most assuredly thwarted. I can't have my mother hearing that kind of language, seeing her favorite son act like a callous criminal and enjoying every salacious second! Perhaps I'll be able to squeeze in a bit of time with R-Type Command, scheduled to ship May 6 and arriving at Kotaku Towers West yesterday. The review is planned for an appearance next Friday, if you're looking for an opinion on the PSP game.

Outside of some strategic Bydo empire dismantling, I'll be playing "Entertain The Folks" with my weekend. How about you? What are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[ R-Type Command's Sweet Preorder R-9A ]]> R-Type Command, Irem's tactical hybrid shooter for the PSP, is due in stores next week, and in case tactical space shooter action doesn't quite grab you, publisher Atlus has sweetened the pot with this kick ass model of the R-Type R-9A Arrowhead in tasteful black and red. GameStop, Amazon.com, GameCrazy, EB Canada will all be offering the model, which originally saw life as a gashapon toy in Japan, and then offered in different colors as part of Yujin's Shooting Game Historica collection (still available here), it's an excellent way to show your love for all things R-Type...along with, you know...buying the game itself.

<![CDATA[ New R-Type Command Screens ]]> rtypwecommand.JPG Atlus just sent over this batch of fresh new R-Type Command screens. R-Type Command is set to hit the Playstation Portable on May 6, but you can grab a demo (which includes a taste of ad-hoc multiplayer) for free on the PSN store. I don't know if it's a good idea for me to own an R-Type on a system that I can easily either throw through a window or smash on the ground. Not that, that would happen, but it is R-Type.

The Japanese shooter series makes its first foray into the world of turn-based strategy, bringing with it multiplayer action via Ad Hoc wireless that will let you play as the Bydo for the first time. Neat. R-Type Command is, indeed, unfortunately saddled with a higher-end PSP price at $39.99, which will probably further limit its acceptance beyond ultra-hardcore R-Type fans.

More details, if you're not turned off by the whole thing, right after this.

<![CDATA[ R-Type Tactics Coming Stateside? ]]> According to a historically reliable NeoGAF member, one who has access to Gamestop's list of upcoming software releases, Irem's R-Type Tactics is coming to North America courtesy of publisher Atlus. Rebranded R-Type Command, the game is said to be scheduled for a March 4, 2008 release date at an MSRP of $39.99. The game eschews the lightning fast reflexes needed to avoid enemy fire from Bido adversaries, instead offering up turn-based, hex-based strategic gameplay. You won't control just one ship, but a fleet of space craft.

We're waiting to hear back from Atlus on the matter to see if this rumor turns out to be true.

R-Type Tactics (PSP) coming to the U.S.! Bring on R-Type Command! [NeoGAF]
