Man. I really thought this game looked good. I'd been following it for some time, even showing off trailers and art work to friends hoping to get their interest. What a shame.
@mat1cs is not your friend.: Yeah tell me about it. I have this conversation between Edge of Twilight and Resonance of Fate/End of Eternity with my wife often. She likes the look of the latter while I like both. Names for games these days are too similar and confusing.
@WhatTheFrag: The interesting question is why we consider them similar. I mean, there are no synonyms or shared words (except 'of' and I doubt that one does mistake it with GoW).
@develin: It's the steampunk design really with the giant cogs and such. I mean both of them have distinct colours that you can't mistake the colour scheme of either but the design models I guess have some similarities. Plus we've seen little to nothing of the actual hero from Edge of Twilight.
If this is true, then the multimedia industry in this country still hasn't recovered since last year.... I'm leaving this country in two days. A fellow animator colleague of mine just got fired 5 weeks ago, her company, a 120 people production house, fired a whopping 100 people, leaving 20 higher ups only within it.
First I'm hearing about the game, and I just watched the linked trailer.
In a little under 2 minutes and 35 seconds a great sense of happiness and excitement built up within me, and then was taken away the second I hit the 'Back' button on my browser.
@Paradox me: The combat in the trailer showed great potential (reminded me of a fantasy/steampunk rendition of Gears of War) and although I grew in skepticism of the game's story and character depth after watching the trailer, it also filled me with a feeling of diamond-in-the-rough potential that perhaps we will never see truly shine.
It is a cost of the recession we rarely have seen as consumers in the gaming industry, and it is a truly heart-shattering one.
@H.A.L.: That's about the opposite of me. I thought the combat looked like it'd be it's Achilles' heel (not that it looked bad, just not as impressive as the overall presentation), while everything else garnered every last bit of my attention, and that was only a trailer.
I'd never heard of this before now, but if this is true that's a bummer.
Steampunk fans really only have Damnation for a Steampunk setting. Oh and that PSX game where you were a cat in a robot... I think? Weird game. So nothing all that great.
@Two Flush Dump: If the title said "Comic-Con Founder Has Died of Dysentery", then yeah that would have been killer. I mean, that would have killed it!
Rest in Peace.
Thanks for creating one of the best conventions on the planet.

I really liked the narration as well.

Oh, I guess Myst could count. Good books.

Also, you could consider the Penny Arcade episodes, though it's more of a parody of so many things.

Edit: Oh man, I just watched the trailer for this and now I'm sad.

Kinda sad though since it was quite original and one of the better isometric RPGs of the time

I was going to make a Superman photoshop, but it crashed on me AGAIN. (Those of you on Kotakuites should know my aggrieves with CS4 already...)
Anyways, rest easy, big fella, and hopefully you don't go into remake hell and instead go into Superhero Retirement. Rest in peace, Shel.
P.S. Shel Dorf is the person on the right.
