People complaining about the lack of a second analog-- I don't think it's time yet for a brand new software development cycle. This device is likely going to be compatible with all previous PSP titles, and it will not require developers to get grips with a new SDK. Sony is trying to capitalize on their existing install base, not supplant it with a new one.
Just in case anybody was going to check, don't bother turning on your PS3 to download Qore, the June issue has simply disappeared. My queue only shows issues up to May, then July. I'm guessing it will magically return either on Tuesday, after Sony's press conference, or on Thursday.
unless the games will be cheaper in digital format.. i really see no reason to get this when ive already spent something like 300 (ive had 2) on the psp already.
No second analog, poor button placement, after being slid it's probably thin as hell and uncomfortable to use. Probably impossible to put CFW on. AAAAAAND, with 16GB of flash memory, I HIGHLY doubt that shit is cheap.
@Fadakar: 16GB built-in storage isn't so insane. I do agree wit the control issues however. All and all, this will probably be cheaper then the existing PSP... god knows it looks the part ;_;
@Haroon Piracha: Oh, thank you for being the ruler of all discussion on earth. Having such power to end debates with just your word. Once again, thank you wise one. I have been enlightened.
adding a 2nd analog stick would be a stupid move because games that would use the 2nd stick couldn't be playable on older PSP's, which would be a terrible move on Sony's part. Remember, this isn't a brand new PSP, only a new redesign.
@Fadakar: What, like you have some merits? please, all you can say is "it looks ugly" But I hate people on the internet, who have never played with a PSPGO!, never touched it, never held it in their hands or even seen one in real life tell us how much of an expert they are on "poor button placement". And now somehow you're an expert on pricing for consoles? Your welcome.
@Haroon Piracha: I'm sorry I'm the sensible one between the two of us and can utilize the 5 senses I was given at birth. I get annoyed holding my PSP2000 and that isn't the thinnest, I imagine if that bottom half is any thinner it'd be uncomfortable as hell, having to wrap your whole hand around a sliver of plastic. Also, I hate you too. kthx.
@Fadakar: 5 senses? one of them being TOUCH? Dude... I'd imagine if you held the PSP GO! in you hands, you'd know, wouldn't you? ... Lord... I don't hate you, I just hate what you're doing. Trolling.
Do you have no ability of perception? I can look at a knife and tell that if I stab myself it'll hurt. But according to you, that opinion is invalid till I actually stab myself.
@tobz1000: I can only advise you to grin and bear it, because we'll be seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of "why no 2nd analog?" comments in the coming days/weeks/months - not unlike how every other comment on the DSi was "why no GBA slot?"
@NeoAkira: Thats incorrect as well. Perception doesn't validate the argument that by looking at a picture, you can tell how easy, hard, clunky or smooth the controllers are. So stab yourself, it will be one less stupid person to for the world to look after.
This is NOT a PSP2, so there really won't be any new features like that. It is simply a UMDless redesign of the exiting machine with a big chunk of built-in memory.
@doubtful: No reason not to add one. It would satisfy a lot of people, it would not harm compatibility with existing games, and support for it could be optional for future games, so it wouldn't break compatibility with old PSPs in the future either.
It doesn't make sense to add a second analog because they aren't discontinuing the 3000 model. Since both models will be available at the same time, it makes sense from both a production and development standpoint to have the same control system. In other words, the increased cost for both the hardware and development of multiple control systems doesn't make sense to the bottom line.
Furthermore, why would they rob themselves of a selling point for the next generation PSP?
I agree a second analog would be nice. I too am one of the people who would like to have one, but the Go is still just a PSP redesign, and was always expected to be light on new features.
Man, did we, the internet, really have to ruin this too? :\ I guess Sony's the one that let it slip. Another big-impact announcement of next week spoiled.
@Archaotic: When's the last time someone let something slip on purpose who wasn't Valve :P I doubt this is deliberate, especially since it was taken down so quickly.
Also, way to let Kojima's secret out of the bag too, Sony.
@Mit: Note, though, in the video Koller refers to E3 in the future tense. "We're going to show it at E3". Why would they talk about Gran Turismo Portable in the future tense if this video were to go up AFTER their press conference?
Glad to see I was right about a new Metal Gear Solid Portable. I don't think we've seen the full extent of Kojima's announcements yet, though...
I fully expect this new PSP MGS and the next PS3 iteration (Metal Gear Raiden?) to have some sort of connectivity to help connect the two games.
I'm definitely going to buy one of these if the price is right though; I'm dying for a PSP I can actually put in my pocket, and this seems to be just that.
@Archaotic: Yep. Though it kinda sucks that it was leaked this early, it's still great news. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Though I'm thinking that they will lower the price on the original models and then keep this at the $200 range.
@Archaotic: I'm actaully hoping that the "Metal Gear Raiden" game is for the PSP and the Big Boss game is for the PS3. I want to play as legendary soldier on my HDTV. As far as the PSP Go is concerned I'm mostly just looking forward to carrying all of my PSP games at once without the hassle of UMDs.
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: I don't think the differences are significant enough to call it the PSP2, but it's also a much bigger change than there was between the PSP1000, 2000 & 3000 or DS, DS lite and DSi. PSP 1.5?
@offshore: i sure hope so. how many times can they shoot their own feet?
this doesnt even look like the psp successor. which if thats true they really missed a huge opportunity. nintendo half assed their successor handheld with the dsi which i might add will run circles around this pos. but a true successor might give the big n a run for its $.
well i guess if microsoft doesnt fuck up their supposed handheld ill get one of those instead.
The PSP has been doing quite well for itself since it came out. It's getting a glut of great games this year. This redesign and the emphasis on downloading games directly to the PSP will attract a lot of people who previously weren't interested. Sony's doing just fine with the PSP and this is a great step in that continued success. There is no need for a PSP2 yet.
Also Nintendo is lightyears ahead of Sony in sales because they own the casual market. That's a market the PSP cannot hope to touch. Sony knows where their bread is buttered and they have that audience square in their reticules. They also have something big that Nintendo doesn't: the ability to download entire games directly to the systems onboard flash memory. Why do you think iPhone games sell so well? Impulse buys. People don't have to shop, they don't have to see the money they're spending since there's never any cash involved, and they can buy a game whenever they're in range of a wireless access point. With the heavy emphasis Sony's putting on downloadable titles with the Go I'd be shocked if we don't see game sales skyrocket.

Is there a method to get disc based games you already own to it?
Will downloadable games be cheaper than their disc based counterparts?

It doesn't have a UMD drive, which I would think is pretty significant, since you can't play traditional PSP games or watch UMD movies now.

More like the PSP 0.5 since they're taking away a more important feature than they're adding.

Actually, there's a game store for the DSi if you didn't know.
And I'm pretty sure that the ugliness of this design will detract from its sales MUCH more than the fact that you can download games directly to it.
That's why apple products sell well; cause they don't look like shit.

I think it may also be touch screen with an accelerometer built in but they're probably not saying anything right now.
