Wha??? Oh. Right. Yeah, I can see that the Leapgate hacks would get a bit frustrating when you're trying to pick gems with a joystick. Shoulda bought the DS version...
Also, keep in mind that just because the direct-link gate goes down doesn't mean you can't navigate around it. Move around in the Leapgate map and find the destination you want to get to. If you click on it, your ship should autonavigate as close as it can.
I played the game for a LONG time last night. It's still addictive, but all the jump gate hacking definitely gets a little old. The original PuzzleQuest seemed less repetitive and more polished, but Galatrix is still pretty fun.
@DugDawg: The advantage of Galactrix is that you aren't locked into a single player class. All you have to do is buy a bigger ship and equip better weapons.
@Midnightjade: Well, to be fair, the difference is that with the DS game you'll be getting a physical cartridge which can be resold, something you can't do with XBLA releases.
If only I had gotten into PQ: Galactrix on the DS like I did for the original... I would have re-bought it for sure for the Xbox just for the achievements and multiplayer.
Unfortunately (and I mean it, I LOVED the first one) I cant stand the new grid. Cant get used to it. And I hate those stupid warp gates, in their stupid faces.
@JimeOB: Same as PC version, less than DS version. The real question is "Have we really reached a point where it's reasonable to charge 1600 points for a Puzzle Quest game?"
@uzivatel: I will admit, I'm about the farthest thing from a Puzzle Quest fan there is, but the term "Arcade" makes me think of games that are really cheap with little to no monetary investment that you can just jump into and enjoy for a few minutes then move on. XBLA is coming out with games that you enjoy for a few minutes, maybe even an hour or two for $15. It just seems a little steep for a game you probably won't play again once you have finished.
@Cloral: Agreed, but Braid's "high" price was a bit of an anomaly at the time, while now it's the norm. Many view the XBLA releases to offer some cheap fun, and the current release pricing is killing that appeal.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed did come out at $10; now Capcom wants $15 for Flock. It could certainly be deserving of the extra $5 -- it'd be stupid to assume all of a developer's should assume the same fee structure -- but I'm sure many will perceive it as XBLA looking to take more many than necessary from its consumers who believe that Braid was a "test" game of sorts for the higher prices. Personally, I think it'd be better received if there was still some new, cheap $5 fun to be had on XBLA. I think that Minesweeper remake was the only such game to come this year so far, as a footnote to the main 1200+ release.
@Nevest356: I haven't played either, but they were dismissing Galactrix pretty thoroughly on the latest Giant Bombcast. Perhaps I should just focus on the original.
Puzzle Quest: Warlords is still as much fun to play as it was when I first bought it. As intrigued as I was when I heard about the leap to sci-fi setting, it seems that Galactrix doesn't do enough to pry me away from thr original.
I was a little disappointed as well. The DS version is SLUGGISH. Load times everywhere, lag all over those leapgate puzzles. I can't play it except for in small increments. It's still mildly enjoyable, but I'll keep my eye on the Puzzle Quest creator's spin off, rather than play through this again.

Buying the Puzzle Quest game for DS is $30. So yeah, I'd call it reasonable. Hell, I'll probably download from XBLA and save myself ten bucks.

If you're only playing these games for just "a few minutes," then you'd be satisfied with the demo.

Sadly, Galactrix is a steaming pile of shit compared to the first one.
:/ If you don't have either one, just save yourself the frustration and get the first one.

After the rose-colored glasses came off, I discovered that I had no desire to continue playing.

Everytime I closed my eyes I would see jewel patterns.
At nights I had nightmares related to flaming skulls.
If this is half as addicting, I'll take it.

haha I know exactly what you mean, I'd go to sleep seeing drop patterns and stuff.
It's actually a pretty cool effect known as the tetris effect.
