Which is free of course.

The "Guide to All Things Playstation" which has everything from Guiness World Book of Records-esque factoids about why a wombat almost became Sony's mascot, to more useful information like every US game ever released for the Playstation, is now available at Lulu as a pdf download for freebies! Although you have to register with Lulu to get it, it's virtually painless and it's fun to poke around on the digital publisher's site and see what kinds of things super-indie illustrators are drawings these days.

<![CDATA[Clips: Castlevania: SOTN]]>

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is deep. Like, really deep. For those who forgot, just check out the game's dialogue. Nuggets like: But what is man? A miserable little pile of secrets. Hopefully, McWhertor's getting a hands-on as the 360 version looks to be a spot-on port of the PlayStation version. The title hits Xbox Live February 10th and will make the world a better place. Briefly, at least.

<![CDATA[U.S. PSP PSX Titles Priced]]>

SCEA has announced the pricing for the forthcoming PS3 downloadable / PSP playable PlayStation 1 games that will soon be available for download via the PlayStation Store. Be prepared to spend anywhere from $5.99 to $10.99 for the privilege of using your $600 console as a download service so your $200 handheld can play games from a $10-20 system, essentially making the PlayStation 3 the most expensive PSP peripheral ever.

Sony hopes to cut the PS3 out of the loop eventually, allowing the PSP to download the games directly. The functionality would certainly make purchasing the handheld much more enticing. I don't currently have one myself, and the possibility of a portable Jumping Flash has my wallet twitching.

No word on what games are coming, and the only timeframe we have is "in the coming weeks," which could technically describe every week from now until the end of time. The Japanese downloads start today, so hopefully the U.S. console m nage trois isn't far behind.

<![CDATA[PSX Games for Japanese PS3s Tomorrow]]>

Looks as if Japanese gamers are going to get to try out Playstation 1 games on their PSPs via the PS3 starting tomorrow. Eight games are set to go on sale via the "Game Archives" section of the Japanese PS3 store, each costing 525 yen, or roughly $4.50 in US dollars.

Games include Resident Evil Director's Cut, some Konami Antiques volumes, Arc the Lad, Hot Shots Golf, Tekken 2, and the single greatest robotic bunny game ever available for the PSX, Jumping Flash. The games are downloaded to the PS3, then transferred to the PSP. Eventually Sony will 'upgrade' the PS3 to play the games without its portable pal.

No word yet on US releases, but if Jumping Flash isn't included I am going to set the building on fire.

<![CDATA[PSP Homebrew Crew Achieves PSX Emulation]]>

When I first got my PSP I was all about the homebrew. I made custom backgrounds for my savegames and etc. One time, while waiting for a flight at an airport, I got so involved in my homebrew DOOM game that I missed my plane by about an hour. After that, I lost my taste for the elaborate fiddling that goes into getting homebrew to run.

But with a functional PSX emulator available, I may be about to get back into the fray.

Yoshihiro has released the first public release of his PSX-P Playstation One emulator for the PSP. This first public release is a good demonstration of what could be in time an excellent Playstation Emulator for the PSP, once a dynarec is built in then Sony will have reason to worry or worry us .

This emulator works on PSPs from ver1.0 to v2.71 obviously after v1.5 youll need to use the Eloader.

So it sounds like the overall speed is currently not great, but this is undoubtedly the beginning of something beautiful.

<![CDATA[PlayStation 3? No Dummy, It's PLAYSTATION 3]]>

File this under why-didn't-we-realize-it-earlier. First there was the PlayStation[R], then the PlayStation[R] 2, next the PlayStation[R] Portable and now, the PLAYSTATION[R] 3. Yep, that's the official spelling, because, the biggest Sony console gets the biggest spelling. The reason? Apparently, Sony is constantly irked with people writing "Playstation" and not "PlayStation." So, everyone take note: the correct spelling is PLAYSTATION 3. Sony's all about the screaming and the serial killer caps.

Rumor also has it that the company's also trademarked PS3[R], which would be a first for them. PSX for PlayStation and PS2 for PlayStation 2 are actually unauthorized trademarks. The company has used PS2 as a logo, but not written. PS3, apparently, is authorized and will appear in the console's upcoming instruction manual in written form.
